New Orleans, Louisiana (CNN) -- The U.S. Interior Department said Monday it is issuing a new moratorium order in a second effort to block deepwater oil and natural gas projects.

The new moratorium is to "protect communities, coasts, and wildlife" while oil and gas companies implement safety measures to reduce the risks of blowouts and oil spills associated with deepwater drilling, the government said.

The ban will be in effect through November 30, 2010, or until Interior Secretary Ken Salazar determines that deepwater drilling operations can proceed safely.

"More than eighty days into the BP oil spill, a pause on deepwater drilling is essential and appropriate to protect communities, coasts, and wildlife from the risks that deepwater drilling currently pose," Salazar said in a statement. "I am basing my decision on evidence that grows every day of the industry's inability in the deepwater to contain a catastrophic blowout, respond to an oil spill, and to operate safely."

He added, "I remain open to modifying the new deepwater drilling suspensions based on new information."

Uhm, how about a court order.

and there is more BS as the article goes on.

So, the first ban gets denied twice in court and you just start a new ban? Can the original judge cite Salazaar or Obama for contempt of court?

Just out of curiosity, can we disbar all the lawyers that took Prof. Obama's Constitutional Law class? They are a menace to society if they think like he does.

I hope they take it back to the same court and the Judge summarily rules "What part of "NO" don't you ****ing understand?"

They probably changed a word or two in their "justification" of the ban and so it is a completely different thing now (in their eyes).

This was alluded to as what they were going to do in the new reports of the initial court order striking down the original ban

Similar to the "no gun within 1000 feet of a school" federal law that was struck down when they tried to enforce it and simply repassed by Congress with slightly different wording and some new exceptions.

It would probably get struck down again, but who wants to be a test case?

In this circumstance they are just creating a really unstable business environment for owners of drilling rigs. Who wants to risk drilling in an environment where the government can issue an illegal order (in contempt of court) to stop you from doing business? So their mission is probably accomplished even if it does eventually get struck down again because the legal bills and uncertainty will reduce the activity all by itself.

Thats just it - who would drill if the govt continues to try to stop you. Bunch of BS about safety and how all the other "fix-it" gear is being used...

Let no tradgedy go to waist with this administration...they'll destroy anything if given the opportunity.
