I am fixing to up grade one of my AR's. Scraping the DPMS upper for a new-better one. Been looking at three different uppers.
1.BCM Standard 16" Mid Length Upper Receiver Group
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-16-Mid-Length-Upper-Receiver-Group-p/bcm-urg-mid-16.htm
2. BCM BFH 16" Mid Length Upper Receiver Group
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-BFH-16-Mid-Length-Upper-Receiver-Group-p/bcm-urg-mid-16%20bfh.htm
Is the BFH worth the extra money??
3.Spike's Tactical 16" Midlength LE Upper w/9" BAR Rail (5.56)
http://www.spikestactical.com/z/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=63_134&products_id=449

So there's my choices. I think I know the answer but I'd like the input on this.

Thanks Casey

I would go with the BCM BFH. So far as is the hammer forged barrel worth the extra? Well, it would be to me.
There is certainly nothing wrong with the standard.
I've just found for myself, if I'm looking at something better in the long run, and it does not cost an extra arm and leg, I'll go ahead and get the upgrade. If you save $90 now, down the road I know I would regret it.

If you can afford the extra few bucks the BFH hammer forged BCM upper is an excellent upper and will probably out last most shooters. I have a 14.5" BCM midlength SBR and I'm very happy with it, it's very accurate and 100% reliable. It's a very high quality rifle using 11595-E barrel steel. Best bang for the buck.

I have been trying to decide between BCM BFH or Standard for quite some time with their "upper group" packages.

Basically it came down to barrel or rail system...(?)
If I go with a standard barrel, I would go with a more "top of the line" rail.
If its the BFH, then the rail would have to be a notch down...Funding has been an issue with this build.

I concluded that the barrel is more important for this build then the rail in the long run. I will be happy with a BFH barrel and good rail as long as the rail is of good quality and locks up tight. I'm not planning on running optics or aiming lasers on the rail system.

Buy the BFH NOW!!! They are on sale currently for the same price as the standards are normally. I am personally waiting for the BFH 16" middie in the LW profile...

Whats wrong with the Spike's?

It is not TDP/mil-spec:fie:.

Go with the BCM, whichever you prefer most.

Here is the official spikes thread on M4:

Get the hammer forged from BCM with a BCM BCG for a long-lasting and reliable rig.

Daniel Defense will be out with their "cold hammer forged" lightweight (approx .625") profile 14.5" and 16" barrels in 4-6 weeks. I believe they will probably be the first manufacturer to offer the mid-gas CHF barrels in the lightweight .625" profile. And i believe they will be the only ones to offer these in the 14.5" length. I plan on getting one of these 14.5"middy barrels and adding a 1.5 BattleComp to it. I also think i will be adding one of the new Spikes Tactical skinny 9" quad rails to the mix when they come out.

+1!

I just bought the BCM BFH 16" middy complete upper package for only $611 after shipping from Bravo Company USA. One heck of a deal. Jump on it while you can. ;)

I can't wait to see if DD finally comes out with a LW OmegaX FSP rifle. That would be a lightweight tack driver.

So this would be about a 12" rail with an opening in front of the FSB? I can never remember their naming conventions!

I was gonna build one of these for myself but BCM had to go and put their uppers on sale :(

I'm definitely going to build one of these soon though, right after my first paycheck from my new job!!!

Get the BCM BFH with a VTAC Extreme or Troy TRX extreme rail, BCM carries both. There's no need to put a crappy rail on ANYTHING with the myriad options that Bravo is offering.

Ok took it out to my place yesterday. Finally got off of being on call.
Got to say I love this weapon. Wish I had known about Bravo before I ever even looked at a Stag or DPMS. This upper is smooth compared to my Stag & the DPMS I had. I dont know if it's because its a mid length system and they are carbine. Had to rezero the AimPoint it was shooting low. Shot about 200 rounds through it just playing around. I have a 12" steel target hanging at 125 yards. I tore that sucker up. All but the first two shots were rapid fire (Not auto). Again I love it. Thanks for the advise guys.

Side note I did try the Spike's buffer. Compared to the stock carbine buffer that came with the DPMS lower there wasn't much difference between the two. There was some, but not enough to go out and buy another one. Not saying the buffer sucks or anything. Im just saying it isn't the world's great thing. I was shooting Federal Lake City 5.56 XM193C 55gr. FMJ ammo.
