View Full Version : Need A Brass Catcher That Doesn't Suck

I have a .300 Whisper Noveske that needs a brass catcher.

I use it to shoot fish in my pond and I don't want to lose the brass in the water.

It has a DD lite rail on it with an Aimpoint in an ADM cantilever mount so the catcher needs to be compatible and not interfere with these accessories.

You should probably be more worried about filling your pond with lead.

I've got a couple of DS ARMS AR flat top brass catchers and they work pretty good. http://www.dsarms.com/Brass-Savr-for-AR15-_M16-Flattop-Black-Bag---A2CANB/productinfo/A2CANB/
I just wish they would sell the flat top mounts with out the bags. I use them to catch empty 6.8 spc cases.

Hello,

Would you please tell us what "works pretty good" actually means, ie. does it catch all the brass all time without causing a stoppage, or most of the brass most of the time with few stoppages, Ect.

BTW: I'm not picking on you, but saying "works pretty good" leaves a lot to the imagination of people that don't want to own Anything that doesn't work 100%

I know that “Works pretty well” is subjective and it mean different thing to different people, but come on it means they work, there not prefect but it’s the best brass catcher I’ve used so far. And I’ve have tried 2 or three different ones. They are made with a metal frame and a canvas cloth bag. The bag is sewn onto the frame. They use a mount that attaches to the flat top rail that is held on with a screw. The threads for the screw are tapped into the plastic block so you have to watch how tight you torque the screw down. The mount is cut for the picatinny rail so it just slides on to the rail. Even if you over tighten the screw you can use a longer fastener and a nut on the back side. The metal frame has two legs that slide into the rail mount that are held in place with a couple of ball type dents. The bottom of the bag has a strip of Velcro so you can empty it with out removing the bag. But because of the ball dents on the frame, it’s almost easier to remove the catcher from the mount to empty it. The brass catcher will hold about 60 rounds of .223 and with 6.8 spc it will hold about 45 rounds. You do have to watch rolling the rifle over because the empty cases can start to roll out of the chamber and it can cause the rifle to jam. It does catch all of the ejected rounds. I would like to see it made so that it was a about an inch longer so the mount could be installed on the barrel section of the rail, it would make using a magnifier and a Aimpoint easier because you would have more space between things. And it would be nice if they used a small flap inside that went across to keep the empty case from rolling out of the ejection port. I wish you could just buy the mounts or that they would make a quick release mount because I have 8 AR’s and buying one for each rifle would get expensive. The catcher will say on the rifle even when full of brass and with rifle turned on its side with the bag being pull down by gravity.

Now that's an excellent assessment, Thanks for the helpful information on the DS Arms brass catcher.

Our aeroplat shooting requires that no brass be ejected from the bird and for a brass catcher, this one works more than pretty good. I personally have not had any failures or seen any when using it, provided you don't run it to capacity. That is as detailed of a description I will give as oddball summed it up pretty well.

Edit - ours were purchased from Brownells, if your looking for another source from where to purchase.

I like the 3bucc and E&L brass catchers. My only issue is that they mount to the upper. I wish someone would make one to mount on the side of a railed fore-end. It would have to be adjustable to compensate for various rail OD's. I may have to start designing...

Scott, there was a thread here, or at Lightfighter or SOCNET where some rotary guys posted merits and druthers of several offerings. I meant to bookmark the thread but didn't, but perhaps that will help.

I prefer the 3Bucc also that I bought from Brownell's. I did have one empty cartridge bounce back into the chamber but this was in the course of something like 4k rounds fired and that could probably be attributited to letting the bag get too full.
I only have experiance with the carry handle version.
I too wish they sold the mounts seperately

Additional mounts are available directly from 3Bucc.

Now this looks promising- I too have been looking for something like this for a while.

I don't mean to hijack here, but can anyone show me how/where it attaches to an AR style rifle?

Also, they seem to have different attachment points, and from the above picture, it looks ok, but I want to be double sure I can use it with an Eotech sight.
