anyone knows the legality issues of shortening my Stag 2T stock? i live in NY long island and i cant get a collapsible stock, but i dont know if the rifle has to be a certain length overall or what. the rifle now measures 36.5 inches w/16" barrel and CAR length, fixed stock. i prefer to rest the stock more mid-line in regards to my body and this is too long. i am looking at the ACE ARFX Entry stock, M4 SOCOM short version. i am, however, unsure about the laws here and dont understand legal frickin jargon. can i get any of the two or am i stuck. i have a buddy with a nice magpul collapsible and he pinned it permanently, but i dunno:confused:

You can't shorten it but, you can buy the Ace ARFX-E, RRA Stubby, Sully Stock or you can buy a collapsible stock and permanently pin it or have someone perm pin it, in a desired location or length. There's no length requirement it just can't collapse. It must be fixed.
I have Sully Stocks on all my guns and they are great. Very sturdy and the perfect length. I also have used the other 2 stocks and theyre god too. The RRA is the shortest of all 3. You can also get an A1 stock which will be a little shorter than what you have now. Ace and Vltor make A1 length stocks and there is always the traditional A1 that i believe Cav Arms carries. I think they are 5/8'' shorter than your current stock if the Sully, ARFX-E and RRA Stubby are too short for you.
Good luck

Has to be 36" overall IIRC.

organdonor, do you have a link that states the 36" rule? I have never heard of that. Thanks in advance.

I live on LI as well and decided to go with the pinned collapsible route. There doesn't seem to be any mention of OAL in the NYS firearms laws ( http://www.nyfirearms.com/blog/nys-gun-laws/ ).

New York State Law (Penal Law) a rifle or shotgun must have a minimum overall length of 26".

I played around with some of the shorter fixed stock, but now just pin collapsibles to the length I perfer.

I can't speak for your states laws, but AR15 has a hometown forum for your state. And I'm sure the people there could educate you on the legalities.
