Oiled up/super black color?

I was wondering in some folks pictures or even in some of the BCM product pictures the rifles/parts look oiled and very black, is there a certain product they are using to achieve this? Just curious.

BCM uppers do come with a pretty extensive coating of some sort of oil so that might account for the shiny deep black look you are referring too. I've often been curious what product BCM coats their uppers with myself, but for a different reason, i find whatever it is to be rather pleasant smelling by gun lubricant standards.

I too want to know what the elusive smell comes from. Just got a BCM BCG and it smells nice too. What ever they used is more grease like then oil like on the bolts though. I stripped that off and gave it a coating of Slip EWL.
