BCM is now offering a complete "Mid-16." Details here:
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-Mid-16-AR15-Bravo-Company-s/142.htm

After reading a number of recent threads here including markm's T&E thread on his BCM 14.5 mid, I plan to either get either this mid-16 or hold out for a 14.5 LW mid where I can attach a perm Battle Comp brake (the BC brakes for attaching to a 14.5 are due out this Fall acc to BC site).

Question: From what people here know about the BCM offerings, is a BCM mid-16 mid likely to shoot about as soft/smoothly as a 14.5 LW mid, when equipped with a similar type brake or FH? If there is a significant improvement in shootability then I might wait for the 14.5. Otherwise I will just go for the mid-16 and keep the flexibility of a removable FH or brake.

Its the port size combined with the midlength gas system that makes the difference, the muzzle device obviously comes into play as well, but I don't think you are going to find much difference in felt recoil between the two options you are looking at. I say this as someone who owns and has tested both, and carries a BCM 14.5 middy duty weapon.

Do any of you know if the gas port for the 14.5" is different than the 16" mid? Just wondering if they fine-tuned it just for the slightly shorter barrel or not...

An all-purpose buffer for the 14.5" is the "H" buffer correct? I've seen so many comment that it runs great with a variety of buffers, but wondering which is "best" in general for a variety of loads...

What muzzle device are you using on that duty weapon and why?

It is PWS556. It came permantly attached from BCM to make it the legal length. If ever you fired a weapon with the PWS556 you will understand how much better you can control/accurately keep shots on targets(or bad guys)...I have one on mine..

This is a true statement. The pws makes a world of difference.

Its wearing the PWS FSC, it puts rounds on target fast, and I can live with the muzzle flash. The side blast is something I wish were a bit less, but its light years better than most other comp devices out there.
