Say you want to leave the storage doors off your UBR stock. Do you leave the screws in, or keep them somewhere else?

IIRC Magpul gives you a set of screws for installing when the door and cover are removed and their instructions warn against leaving the screws out. I think they have a manual on their website.

Yep, you replace the 1/2" screws with 3/8" when you run without the door and cover:

Yeah. The sling attachment loop on the butt will fall out without them. (AMHIK)

Most Absolutely. When I took both the storage doors off of the stock, I noticed that the original screws bottomed out prior to screwing down completely. Doh!, Then I remembered that the kit came with 4 extra shorter screws with blue loctite for this purpose.

http://store.magpul.com/downloads/ubr-final_web.pdfI was wondering why in the heck MagPull would need such huge screws (1/2" & 3/8") and why a different sizes were needed when the door & cover were removed. Made no sense at all. :help:

It wasn't until I read the manual that I realized that the screws are actually 10-24 in size and the lengths are 1/2" & 3/8". Ya had me going there for a minute! :jester:

I think most of us have probably run into this during our first UBR install. I knew to replace the screws, but didn't realize that was why the shorter screws were provided until the longer ones bottomed out well before they were flush. Live and learn ...
