I'm googled out. I'd like to color match my AR but there is a lot of contradictory info out there so does anyone have any first hand experience/success?
Right now I'm leaning toward Rustoleum "dark taupe".
Thanks for any info.

How well does the finish hold up from scratches and flaking off?

It is not hard to find accessories that closely match Mapul's FDE.

Duracoat has a finish specifically called Magpul Flat Dark Earth. I had my Glock 34 slide refinished in it.

Yeah, I saw that but the reviews were less than convincing. I went with the Brownells Alumahyde 2 Coyote . I'll post pics when I get it done.

Stuff is awesome. Watch their video on how the Brownells guy does it and then the hard part, don't re-assemble for 10-14 days, it makes a real difference.

When I did mine I painted it all disassembled. And then put it together.

I followed the videos to a T.

I also used Matte Clear over the top.

I have had no issues with wear that weren't user error. My friend has a Ultrasonic tank and I put my upper in there and that was the only time any paint has come off. I took it out quickly though so it was just a few small spots.
