Does anybody like them? (Why/why not?)

Where is a good place to get one?

Is there any kind with an A2 compartment?

Me no likey the A1 or A2 grip.
Why?I have extra large lunch hooks and they wrap around smaller grips, generally causing me grip issues.
I personally like the ERGO ambi(with a gapper),Magpul Moe or MIAD.Otherwise Im not too picky about which one of the three.

Are the materials okay?

The A2 is good for me. I don't have tiny hands, but I get a good grip with it.

I've always preferred the A1 style to the A2 style. I don't like the bump or the jagged texture on the A2 grip. It's all personal preference, though.

I have an A1. It's smooth on the front and back with ridges on the sides. Feels like the same circumference as the A2 and has the hollow compartment like the A2.

You can buy them used from Fulton Armory for about $10. They have some wear but nothing to bitch about. That doesn't include the screw and washer. You will find the screw and washer for a buck at Fulton Armory as well (on the same page, just scroll down).

I like the A1 grip. The material is polymer with fiberglass I believe. Look on gunbroker.com, forum EEs, at surplus stores, gun shows, etc. to find them. They go for $5-$25 (I wouldn't spend more than $10 for a used one).

Much prefer the A1 to the A2.

I also prefer the A1 to the A2. I prefer aftermarket grips to both, with flat front straps.

It's about the finger groove(s). If it/they are in the right spot, they're great. If not, they suck.

A1 is good kit.

If Colt was run by smart people they'd start making new ones for the commercial market.

Another fan of the A1 grip checking in. It's a good size that fits my hand well with or without gloves on. If you have some extra A2 grips lying around, try removing the finger grove and see what you think. That's what I've been doing since they are more expendable than surplus A1 grips.

Thanks for the input guys. Got a friend who is selling me 3 for $15 each. Not used almost at all.

Will a Samson AR Field Survivor fit in the grip?

(if Colt was run by smart people they would make production CAR-15 stocks still)

Like most others I prefer the A1 to A2, so I just got a MIAD grip and use the thinnest back strap with no finger groove. Love it.

I like the A1 grip. I have one on my quasi-retro-ish lightweight carbine. i just find the older grip more comfortable then an A2, though I cant really say if it provides me with an optimal firing grip or not. got mine from Sarco for $3.95 if i remember correctly

If given the choice I'd take the A2 with the finger groove ground off, with surplus A2's at $3, I'd go that route.
