What's the low down? I hear great things and I also hear not so great things. Some say the only advantage over any other heater is that they don't get hot which doesn't justify the price.

Aren't those the ones that advertise you get a "free" Amish made fireplace looking mantle thing that fits over it??

I am not familiar with them but they seem pricey.

My office is downstairs which is where all the cool air in the house seems to collect in the winter. I have an older version of one of these electric radiators under the desk and it works great:

No, not the Amish ones. I know these things work very well. A friend has one and it heats a hallwat, bathroom, and bedroom with ease. See, my house is heated by lo which is nughtmarishly expensive and I was looking to cut back a bit on it. My house is two rooms... kitchen/ livingroom is 12x 24 and the bedroom is 12x14. That's my house. I guess my question is: "what does this thing do that other 1,000 sq ft space heaters don't?"

I have one, it works as advertised. It does not get hot, like space heaters. It is also very quiet. They are expensive. But if you watch the newpapers, different companies travel through and will sell them at motels with a big discount from the advertised price.
