i know this is talked about in many other threads, but i just wanted a quick opinion from some of you experts. im going to purchase a new bcm 14.5 upper. but i cant seem to decide if i should add a fresh BCG? or just use the BCM BCG ive had for about 8 months now in my current upper with roughly 1000 rounds through it. im sure the used would be fine in the new upper. but if i could save a 130$'s, & not have to worry about any issues with a "fairly used" bcg in my upper, whatever possible issues that may come with that, that is. thats cool.

so what would you do?:

add a new BCG?

or use the 1000 round count BCM BCG & save some $$?

My thoughts are that, assuming both the BCG and Receiver extension/barrel are completely to spec, the BCG/barrel "Wear" into each other in use.

You are in essence removing the molded barrel that fits the BCG, and replacing it with a new one while using a "worn" BCG.

You could always just buy a new bolt, thats the least I would do.

However, I can almost guarantee you that if you put that BCG in your new rifle it would function flawlessly. But will it function 5000 rounds from now?

So take it for what its worth

Get a new BCM BCG and move on.

Since 1000 rounds isn't much more than "broken in" I would drop it in the upper and call it a day. For piece of mind go to Billricca.com and look around his site for the M16 Field headpsace gage. It'll cost around 35.00. You save 90.00 or so and can use it for ammo or mags.

I suppose an alternative to a new bolt carrier group would be to just buy a new bolt.

Use the carrier you have and just drop a new bolt in for $50-60

1000 rounds is nothing. No new bolt necessary.

Agreed.

To the OP: The BCG is barely broken in. Now if you want a spare, then that is always a good thing, but it is not necessary for your purpose.

I just ordered the M16 Maximum Headspace Gage from him, with the shipping, the total was $43.

Scroll down about 1/3 of the way.
