I'm going to treat myself to a nice DMR for Xmas. I was thinking the SIG556 DMR and a Vortex 2.5-10x44 or a BCM SPR Mk12 Mod0 upper w/ Leupold type glass, not sure yet which one.

I just built up a rifle using this upper from Bravo...

Its the VLTOR upper with a 18 in barrel. I added a VLTOR flash hider and the tangodown/VLTOR bipod, topped with Luep. 2.5-8X mid range tactical scope. Very pleased with it. I have been shooting 64 grn federal loads out of it, and it is a tackdriver. Looking to pick up some heavier bullets and see what she can do. If I were you, I'd pick one of the Bravo builds.

yeah I agree , it's always gonna be the bravo...
unless of course you like an extra heavy rifle with a twist rate suitable for shooting teeny bullets...

Joke thread?

I'd take any BCM over any SIG556

I will offer up for discussion that DI guns will be inherently more accurate than a piston gun. Less moving parts and not having to deal with cleaning issues in a non-suppressed and low round count type gun would make the DI the preferred gun.

The BCM would be my choice and I think they are the leaders in value- performance for price in ARs. And I put my money where my mouth is- I have a BCM 16in ss410 upper.

Leave the Sig 556 DMR rifles for the movies and TV shows.

Not to mention the Sig 556 DMR is a 1/10 twist, at least according to the newest issue of American Rifleman from the NRA.....

No question at all!

It should be between a BCM Mk12Mod3X or a Centurion Mk12 with the Centurion FF Rail.

Decide between:
LT 12.0 13.2
DD 12.0 14.0
TROY/VTAC Extreme 13.0
KAC URX-II
Centurion 12.0 FF

and sights - that's what question you're on now.

Really? Did they give a reason why Sig went with that twist rate?

Sig stopped being a top tier manufacturer of combat firearms about 6 years ago. Their P2XX line of handguns began showing QC issues in 2005. The 556 series of rifles was poorly executed from the start and has failed to live up to the quality standards of its Swiss cousins. This 1:10 barrel twist is further confirmation that Sig has no clue and they are just producing crap for the uneducated shooting community.

They try to put lipstick on this pig with cheap Chinese accessories, which solidifies their place as a second or third tier company - sad.

Their market share and reputation in the mil/LE community is quickly being eroded by the M&P, Glock, etc. due to poor performance. Stay away - far away.

Contrast this with Bravo's reputation for quality which is stellar and gaining market share in the shooting community.

the 556 series is garbage, and Im no sig hater, Id love a real 55x series weapon.

A quality MK18 would be a far better choice IMO.

I'm going with a BCM Recce build. Ordering the upper this Friday a SS410, 16", Larue Rail. Going to get a Mk AR 1.5 and LT104. It's going on top a Colt AR15A3 Tactical Carbine lower and I'll spring for a 2-stage Geiselle? trigger and ACS stock. I'll be posting pics soon in the build forum.

It came down to the LT 12.0, DD 12.0 or KAC URX2. Now that I see the Vltor, it looks good. How much does it weigh? In the end I'm going with Larue.

As an update to this thread, I forgot it was here. Here's what I got to work on for a Christmas project. It still needs a Larue mount and Trijicon 1-4x.

Funny you mention it. I never get buyers remorse when I use BCM. I always know I got a good deal.

I would say BCM is what other companies should strive to be. They sell great gear at fair prices. Their web site is easy to get around. They ship lightning quick along with email notification and their customer service is Awesome.

The new CEO of SIGArms is the former president of Kimber and a lot of SIG fans are lamenting the "Kimberization" of SIG.

The 556 appears to be a dud. It is NOT the SIG 550.

Bahahahaha!!

I wanted a 556 Classic for quite a long time, until I held one. Yadda yadda yadda, I'm almost done with another BCM intended to fill the role the 556 would've filled.

Thanks Tom. I was already familiar with the corporate leadership aspect of Sig's fall from grace. The added background does illustrate the importance of leadership in maintaining a corporate ethic of quality.

the 556 series is garbage, and Im no sig hater, Id love a real 55x series weapon.
I bought my Classic for $1160.25 when all was said and done which I believe was a fair price. The red dot that came with it was junk and the buttstock seems kind of toyish. I can't say for sure that it wouldn't hold up though, as I don't pound any of my rifles' buttstocks enough to damage them. Other than those two complaints, I don't understand how a "real" 55x series rifle would be so different that one would be "garbage" and the other would be a good weapon. Please educate me as I've never held one. I should have bought a Swiss one back in the day when DSA had postban rifles for $2000. The fact that the 556 takes AR15 mags is a definite plus in my book. I wouldn't have bought it otherwise and I'm betting I'm not alone. The only other negative that I can think of about my 556 is that it's front heavy. I don't see how a Swiss 55x would be any different in that regard.

Easy..:mk12. Tho, since I am a purist, I vote to go with the "real" thing from high caliber sales or maybe centurion. The 1:7 stainless barrel from Douglass is quite awesome. I'm far from the best shooter and squeezing out 1/2" at 100 and less than 1" at 200 yards has been relatively easy.

I suppose I an biased, but I also feel the contract mk12s look better than the custom jobs....just my opinion.
