Thinking about getting a 2011 pistol but unsure about what to do. Not sure if I should go with an STI 2011 design or make a Custom 2011. Polymer frame, or Steel? What do you guys think?

I'd go with a custom 2011, STI makes good frames and slides most of their other parts leave a lot to be desired.

Depending on what you want to do with it, there are many options, but Infinity makes what I would think to be the finest of the 2011s on the market. Every gun they make is specified by the individual ordering it.

I have a 2011 Edge in 40SW and a STI Tactical in 45. I actually carry the Tactical with 126mm mags with out a magwell in a homemade Kydex holster.

I had some feeding issues when I got it (used) but I don't think many rounds had been thru it. After about 200 rounds and a bunch of dry firing it has slicked up, polished the feed ramp, and runs like a top now. My mag set up is STI Tubes with Gramms followers and springs. IIRC I get 14 rounds in 126mm mags, but I load to 13. With Hollow-points the 14th round sometimes wants to face plant on the feed ramp. FMJ bullets aren't a problem. Going to try the Hornaday 185 polymer tipped rounds that are bit more rounded to see if they feed a bit better.

I just find that with those mag tubes and all that drag that dirty (dusty dirt espc.) causes rounds to bind a bit and feeding gets a bit dicey. At the indoor range I ran 500 rounds, no issues. Some Pueblo dirt from speed reloaded dropped mags caused me issues.

I've heard good things about Superior in Kentucky. One of their guys is a member here.

I have no experience with them, but they may be because I have not heard of many good experiences anywhere else. I have seen a M class USPSA production shooter run a LDA extremely well...If it were me I would look else where.

They're not cheap but those Infinitys sure are sweet.

We do lots of 2011 work and my personal gun is at about 4 LAV classes and 8000Rd.

We love the guns but they take lots of love and time to make right.

The tactical is what we sell the most of.

Is this the gun you are talking about?

It is a 2011 tactical in 9mm with an aluminum grip frame from STI.
The gun is hard chrome from Trip it makes the gun look like it is not real.
We have done more than one with the grip frame but the hard chrome is different.

I'd like one like that but with standard Black finish and smooth frame like that but with grip tape on the frame. How much heavier is it that with the polymer frame?
