A customer asked us to build something similar to LT's Stealth upper. After gathering up all the components, we came up with the below upper. The upper managed to shoot under 1/2 inch groups with 75gr TAP!

C4

Components:

16" Loather Walther LW50 SS barrel in 1/7 twist, M4 barrel extensions, gradual taper to improve rigidity and a mid-length gas system.

LT Stealth M4 Upper receiver

LT 10.0 FF rail

VLTOR SS GB

Vortex

PRI Gas Buster CH

FN contracted BCG with BCM extractor upgrade kit

I would assume these barrels should be meticulously "Broken In". What's your recommendation, or do you do it before it leaves G&R?

I simply follow the 1 shot & clean 10 times. and then move into 5 shots & clean 10 times.

Because barrel break in is really a personal preference, I leave it up to the shooter to do what they want.

Out of curiosity what does an upper build like that cost? I looked on your website but did not find a cost for the entire build.

Thanks!

That's not a bad price at all - may have to order one up myself before I head down range.

Grant, are you regularly assembling rifles/uppers or just for funs as a side to your store? By now I have a strong feeling that outside of RRA and CMMG there is no place to order the rifle the way I want it. With all the bad comments on RRA I no longer even consider it and CMMG site does not inspire me to buy from them neither.

We have been doing custom builds forever. Take a look at this thread to give you an idea of some of the options we provide: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=5776

+1 those are all top shelf components.

I might have to give this a look when I'm ready!

I think my customer liked the LT Stealth upper, but wanted a 1/7 twist with M4 ramps. The LT Stealth Upper Receiver (Dealer version with M4 cuts) worked out very well for this project.

Grant, what would the estimate be for the complete upper utilizing following components:
- VLTOR VIS2 (mid length)
- 14.5" 1/7 twist, mid lenght
- Vortex
Thanks,
Igor

Kind of depends on the barrel. Any ideas on what you wanted to use?

Honestly - no idea. I would probably have no more then 2K rounds a year target shooting with range rarely exceeding 100 meters. I would say ballanced towards accuracy and I do not mind going 16" if it makes it better :)

A Noveske SS 14.5 would be a good fit then.
With a mil-spec BCG, standard CH VLTOR SS Gas Block, your looking at around $1,275.

Hey Grant, is that the barrel you were showing me the awesome 75 grain TAP groups from?

Does it come in 18 inches?

Yes it is. They are not available in an 18" model yet.

Thats a very nice set-up. What about the same thing with a non-SS barrel? I've heard the life of SS barrels isnt nearly as long as chrome lined Gov. style barrels. I'd like the same set-up not as a fighting gun not really a long-range SMR.

We can do that as well. The only issue is that quality chrome lined barrels are hard to get these days.

Can I assume by the 'yet' that this will be rectified?:D

Yes. Noveske will be making a quality chrome lined barrel, BCM should start to push barrels out in the Fall and we should have another source through a major manufacturer for 4150 1/7 twist barrels.

Grant do you have a weight for the 16" SS barrel? Basicly does it compare to an HBAR or hopefully lighter?

What barrel would you reccommend using a Larue upper receiver (non M4 ramp).I'm looking for a match barrel to shoot out to 300 yards.

Really cannot think of any that don't have M4 Cuts. Do you already own the LT Stealth receiver?

It can be. You just have to watch for any issues.

For barrels, I would go with a Noveske or Loather Walther.
