I have a BCM with the carbine length gas system and a 16" barrel. I am planning on adding a Battlecomp muzzle brake. I was thinking about getting my barrel cut to 14.5" and waiting to get the 1.5" version that is getting ready to come out and have it permanently attached. Would it be worth it or should I leave it 16" and get the 1.0 version of the Battlecomp?

Personally I wouldn't do it. If you decide to however just remember that the gas port may need to be adjusted as well. Contact BCM directly to verify.

Leave the barrel as it is and get the current version of the brake. I say use the spare change that you were going to spend getting the barrel shortened to get some rounds down range and give us a report :D. What made you decide look into shortening the barrel?

I have contacted Paul about gas port sizes between the 14.5 and 16 inch BCM barrels, and he stated that you would be fine leaving the port as is, when cutting down a 16" to 14.5". I suspect they both have the same port size. :)

I contacted him, because I tossed around the idea of something similar, only chopping a LW to 14.7" and perming a BC 1.0, which makes more sense to me.

I have 3 BCM uppers. A 14.5 middie and 2 16" middie LW's. The gas ports appear to be the same and take the same size drill bit. I wanted a 14.5 LW but missed out so bought another 16" LW. I already have a BattlerComp for it and will cut the barrel to 14.7 and voila, slap on a Troy Ext. 11.0 and call it good.

I would just sell it and buy what you want.

We think a lot alike! I have a 14.5 gov't middy with A2X, 2 BCM 16" LW middys, and now a BCM 14.5" LW middy with an A2X. I have a BC 1.0 on one of the 16" LW's right now, and will probably end up making it a 14.7" LW middy with the BC 1.0 permed, for the ideal LW upper, in my opinion.
