Anyone rocking a non-combat reflexive red dot or other optic on an M&P 15 22?

I intend to use my M&P 15 as a kind of a fun gun for novice shooters (including kids) to shoot. Plinking. Maybe zap a varmint or two or three.

I think an Aimpoint Comp or an Eotech would be ... kinda overkill. I have a Leupold Vari-X IIIc rimfire scope on my Ruger 77/22 - I'm think even that could be overkill.

Also, what range would you zero such an optic for this purpose? 50 yards? I don't think I'll use this as a training gun, strictly for fun.

Yeah, an Aimpoint or EOTech would be overkill unless you plan on switching back & forth to one of your main guns. Maybe a Vortex or other inexpensive red dot.

I think this is the proper application for the Primary Arms Micro dot optic (http://www.primaryarms.com/product.sc?productId=402&categoryId=5).

+1 on the Primary Arms unit. That's what I have on my M&P 15-22. I love shooting that rifle, cheap & fun.

I went with the Primary Arms M4 sight.

It isn't nearly as bright as a real Aimpoint, but it works pretty good considering it is less than $100.

Another advantage of the PA, for novice shooters, is that it has selectable reticles. You can choose something that works better than a dot for new shooters if they are having trouble with the dot.

another Primary Arms +1. I use the M3 Multi on a cantilever, Mimics my comp ML3's on my 5.56 rifles perfectly.

I agree with the Primary Arms Micro dot optic choice.

I would vote the Vortex Strikefire. It is the same size and weight as the aimpoint m3, has vastly longer battery life, has a larger field of view than the primary arms model, can change from red to green, and co-witnesses with iron sights. I also happen to have a LNIB model for sale with only 2 hours use, if you are interested.

I don't think suggesting something just so you can pimp your for sale item is the way to go.

I put a SIG-Sauer FAKEPoint Micro on my wifes M&P15-22 in a Daniel Defense mount. I did have to modify the mount (milled out the recoil lug). It works fine for a .22 I think the MOA of the dot is about 6-8MOA.

I consider .22LR to be the perfect place for a Primary Arms RDS. I've been using one of their Micros on my .22 for the better part of a year with absolutely no problems:

I recently picked up one of their M3-style sights:

I like the M3-style better enough that I just sold off the Micro to buy another M3 to put on my 9mm range toy AR.

Sorry if you took it that way, but I was not trying to "pimp a sale" seeing that I do not even have anything for sale in the Eqiuipment Exchange. I honestly feel that the Vortex is a much better product than the Primary Arms. In my opinion, the Vortex is just one step under an Aimpoint, while the Primary Arms is no better than the ones that you would by at Walmart. The OP is obviously able to decide for himself which way he wants to go and was just letting him know that if he does decide to go with the Vortex that I have one he could have for cheaper that he would be able to retail. Have a nice day.

I just received a PA M3, in the short time I've had it, I've been very pleased with all aspects of it.
