Always thought sharks HAD to stay in salt water or they'd die... learn something new every day I guess..

Interesting reading http://www.elasmo-research.org/education/topics/p_sharks_in_fresh.htm

Bull sharks can live in fresh and brackish water, and have a record of unprovoked attacks on humans. I'm sure the number of unreported deaths in the rivers of Africa, central/south America are much higher.

"Unlike most sharks, bull sharks tolerate fresh water and can travel far up rivers. They have even been known to travel as far up as Indiana in the Ohio River and Illinois in the Mississippi River, although there have been few recorded attacks."

I would be scared shitless if I saw a bull shark in a river that far from the coast!

How do they know that what appeared to be a bull shark wasn't actually a D.C. lawyer?

They might insist that you and I do it. They are more enlightened tough, and understand that animal life is as important as human life. :suicide2:

It's global warming that made it swim up the river! If only people wouldn't infect the world with so many babies....

Too soon?

"Smile, you son-of-a-bi-*bang*!"

Bulls like to go up rivers, and they like to eat people. They're probably the most aggressive shark and responsible for more attacks than either Tigers or Great Whites. Capstick had a great chapter about spearfishing for them from a canoe in Nicaragua in his book, "Maneaters".

It wasn't wearing a tie, and therefore didn't meet the dress code.

Two weeks ago we went to Surfside and kayaked a couple of stingrays on #14/0 circle hooks about 400 yards off the beach and caught a couple of 6ft Bulls.

They're one of the few species of shark that should actually make you nervous...but they sure do pull hard.

Yeah, I love sharks too. Before I turn 50, I want to see Great Whites while under water. In a cage of course. I think they are some of the most startling and magnificent creatures in the world.

And it's true, without them, all ocean life would fail.

Bull sharks are tough SOBs!

A bull shark was responsible for the attacks on the Matawan Creek in New Jersey in 1916 and have been seen as far as 80 miles up fresh water rivers.

We had a Bull Shark kill a 10 year old boy here in Virginia beach back in 2001 and then two days later tore up a girl (lost her foot and ass cheek) and killed her boyfriend just down the coast in Hatteras.

They can go any where and will take a bit out of anything.

So often the big bad wolf is the White shark, however a nice sized Tiger, Bull or Lemon shark will all get the job done very nicely. The gent above pegged it, we need to keep all the top predators in abundance or all the rest below falls very quickly.

I would love to see them leaping out of the water off the coast of South Africa before I finally check out.

Alright dude, sounds like a plan. How freaking cool would it be to see a 15-18 foot GW that weights 1500-2000lbs leep completely out of the water? Awesome!

Once in lifetime experience:cool:

I here its frown upon and starting to get somewhat taboo.....the use of the dummy seal is wasting the White Sharks energy and thus makes him less apt to catch and eat the real deal when they see it next time.

The cage diving is frown upon because it teaches White Sharks to associate humans with Chum and dumb behavior...aka, tasty snack.:nono:

I fish extensively down in the Gulf and from time to time we chum them off the wrecks and I can all but assure you what would happen if I fell in ever:suicide:
