Ranger Mag pulls

what is the correct way using 100 mile an hour tape (duct tape) and 550 cord to make the mag pulls. Are the just taped to the mag or do you attach it to the floor plate of the mag? Any responses are appreciated.

On a few that I did, I taped the cord on the outside. I burned both ends of the cord into nice little balls--but with a larger diameter than the cord itself--and ensured not to place the tape directly on top of them, but slightly higher so that it would be a bit more resistant to the pull.
