I took all your guys advice and put in the new BCM bolt carrier group, gunslinger charging handle, H2 buffer. The gun shoots great! I definately notice a difference because of the buffer.

Although I must say, the stock RRA BCG looks pretty damn good. The gas key IS properly staked and it already had the heavy duty extractor spring. So I will keep this BCG as a back up for the four black rifles I have.

Can you post a picture? A properly staked RRA gas key is pretty rare.

I don't know how to attach a photo, but the link is here. This is the RRA gas key staked from the factory. This bolt assembly appears to be every bit as good as the ones in my two Colt rifles!

the staking looks ok. but does the bolt have the letters MP on it? that's the difference. you say the extractor has the right stuff, that must be a new thing. you did nothing wrong by replacing it with a known quality BC and keeping it as a spare.

happy shooting!

Those are the same square indentations standard on a RRA. A top view would be needed to determine if staking was sufficient, but the intrusion does appear to be a little great than usual.

As for the bolt assembly, nothing worthwhile is discernible from visual inspection.

Except I can almost guarantee that the RRA bolt has not been HP/MPI tested and inspected, but I assume you already knew that.

I just upgraded my RRA as well. I put in a Bravo Company BCG as well as an H Buffer. Do you think an H2 buffer is better?

I also inspected my RRA BCG and it looked like it was staked just fine, but I got the BCM BCG anyway and will use my RRA BCG as a backup.

I'm glad to hear yours shoots great! I just barely got my upgrades so I haven't even shot mine yet. I'll let you know how it shoots!

I like the H2 buffer. Seems about the same as the H. Both definately noticeable difference over the standard buffer. My Colt 6940 came standard with an H buffer, which was nice to see. My older Colt AR-15 A2 came with a standard buffer (i think that is all that was available back then) and the extractor spring is the blue type. That is from the Colt factory.

Please update on your rifle performance!
