You can call me weird if you like, but I like the Sig standard I-Dot sights that come on their pistols. I actually prefer them over the standard 3-dot horizontal sights.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any night sights that would fit on a Sig P226 in the I-Dot configuration.

Something similar to: https://www.ameriglo.net/catalog/i-dot

I've been looking around, but haven't found anything promising. If not, I'll probably just get a tritium front sight and leave the stock rear sight.

You're not alone. I prefer the "dot the I" sight picture as well but I've had little luck finding anything with tritium for Sigs. The only thing close I've found are XS Standard or Big Dots http://xssights.com and Heinie Straight Eigths http://www.heinie.com/product_info.php?cPath=9_12&products_id=66 I'm currently using XS Big Dots but I think I'm going to go back to a notch/post style sight like the Heinie. In the past I've used either a Mepro or Trijicon front sight and a factory "non-lamp" rear. If you find Ameriglo is going to produce I-Dots for Sigs let us know.

If the gun is being used for self-defense purposes, I would stick with a known and proven brand. The best ones I have come across are these Heine 'Straight-8' brand.

You are not allone, I own half-a-dozen SIGs and they all have the bar dot sights. I think they are fast too.

Although, I have not personally owned these sights yet. I plan on purchasing a pair of Heine sights for one of my 226 pistols. I had a chance to shoot a 1911 pistol with them and I felt they were very comparable to Trijicon/ Meprolight in terms of quality.

P.S. If you opt to have night sights installed on your SIG, do yourself a favor and pay someone to do it for you unless you already own a sight-pusher and have experience doing it. It can be tricky sometimes and a slight amount of fitting may be required in some instances.

Well, Someone else was thinking the same thing.;)

The Heinies look great, I just wish the Sig models had more of a ledge on them. I guess a skilled individual could make them ledged but I hate to hack up a new, expensive pair of sights.

The heinie sights look pretty good... and whichever night sights I get I plan to have installed by a gunsmith since I have zero experience.

I noticed that you can pick your rear notch width. Standard is .125", and then there are .140" and .156". I can only speculate as to the benefits of a larger width (assuming there are some). Any input??

Heinies are going to be your best option for a two dot setup. I use Heinies on my duty P229, and the regular contrast sights on my off duty P239.

The two dot is a superior sight setup in my opinion. Your shooting corridor is thin on a standing threat. About 5" wide, and about 1.5' tall. Three dot sights have a natural alignment for the verticle plane, but that is less important in comparison to the horizontal plane. The straight eights give you a better horizontal plane alignment which is more crucial.

I think Warren Tactical's straight eights are the best around, but they aren't offered for Sig or H&K as of yet.

Sorry, I shot the gun about a year ago at an IDPA shoot. It was a Wilson's Combat 1911 with the Straight-8 sights installed. I don't recall which width notch was on the gun.

All I remember is that it was getting dark and it was much easier to pick-up the sights than on my non-illuminated SIG bar dot sights.

Give them a call, it is possible they may have a dealer/ retailer in your area. Another question, would be to inquire if an exchange is possible for the rear (assuming it is unmounted) sight.

Also, SIG has the specs for their standard sights on their website. That information may be useful in your selection.

Personally, I will likely go with the Straight-8 rear sight closest to the specs. for the rear sight on my gun (226 Navy).

I am glad you brought this-up, I really need to order a pair.:thank_you2:

Thanks,

The only place that I can find that offers the Heinie sights for Sigs are the manufacturer and Midway (http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=285778).

Midway is backordered... anyone know of any other places to purchase them? Only other sites I find just sell Glock or HK Heinie sights :(

just get a sig night site front and change that out. I have been running that setup on my 228 for a while and it works really well.
