Just found a used G23 Gen2 at Gun Warehouse in Lexington yesterday. It's a little beat up, but they let me function test it for 50rds yesterday before layawaying it. $350+tax=$371. I'm gonna pick it up in a couple weeks.

Just wondering what loads I should consider for SD. What's everyone using in their 40s?

I really liked the lighter loadings, such as the 155, 165, 145, and 135 grain loads.

The brands that I generally used (I no longer use the .40 SW) were Federal, Winchester, Corbon and CCI.

I believe that the majority of theses loads will have similar characteristics/ performance, unless you go with something unconventional like the Corbon DPX or the Remington Golden Sabers with the copper-jacket.

I once shot a large pitbull dog with Federal Hydra-Shok 155 grain JHPs. It took three rounds to put it down.

But after seeing the effects of a few folks being shot. I am not a believer in the hottest/ newest Caliber of the month club.

Any duty appropriate caliber (9mm, .45 ACP, .40 SW, .38 Special, etc.) is potentially effective for anti-personnel use with proper shot-placement.

Personally, I am no expert but I prefer the 9mm with a fast 124 or 127 gr JHP +P or +P+. My 2 cents.

In .40S&W I am fond of the Federal LE Tactical HST 155gr. Hollow Points.

180gr Ranger-T, Gold Dot or HST would be my first pics in the .40, from both testing and OIS reports these are very good choices in duty ammo.

The 180gr Ranger-T is a bit milder in recoil than many other choices in the .40

I have a Gen-3 Glock 23 & use 180gr Ranger T's. I've tried the 155gr Hornady's but they don't feed reliably in my Glock. I have no problem with them in my Sig 229 though.
