Last Friday I managed to grab 2 hours at the range and this time I had my Bulgy AK-74 ($349 from centerfiresystems.com) and recently acquired Hawk 982 (870 knockoff, that's actually better than original) - $185 from BudsGunshop.com (including ghost ring sights). Here they are:

All ammo, except birdshot was 2-3/4" Remington and all shots were fired standing, unsupported. First I shot 25 rounds of birdshot into one target at 22 yards and it worked perfect. Then I shot 5 rounds of 1-buck at same distance and it worked great. Recoil was minuscule while result on the target was excellent.

Here's another 5 rounds of 00-buck at 30 yards. Less wounds but noticeably more recoil than 1-buck. Granted, 8 yards further also.

Finally, I shot 5 slugs at 50 yard target and got two nice shots, one at the edge on the right and two went who knows where.

I need to shot more to learn how this shotgun shoots, but all in all - I'm very happy with it. The only thing I'm going to do is to get longer magazine spring since this one will always push last round only 1/2 through and will have to pull it out of tube.

This shotgun shares all parts with Remington 870, except barrel. On shotgun forum it's describes as better barrel locking system then Remi, and some people already figured out how to make a distancer that will allow to use Remi barrels. Overall it is more solidly built, including the steel trigger guard vs. plastic on Remi. Ghost ring sights are very good quality and right there a $80-90 item on $185 shotgun! :w00t: I will replace screws with single slot with some Allen screws and if I find some nice Remi wood stock and forend, maybe replace original black synthetic. Although stock and recoil pad are actually very good quality and also better at dampening recoil than Remi. I think that this is a shotgun to seriously look at because the bang for a buck is louder then loudest round fired from it!

So, after shotgun, I put new targets at 25 and 50 yards and started shooting my Bulgy AK-74. Here is target, shot standing, unsupported at 25 yards:

And here's another one fired in same fashion at 50 yards.

Then I shot some more, but this time sitting, resting front of the rifle on my range bag. Again 25 yards:

...and 50 yards:

The rifle functioned perfectly, without any issues except that it really, really, really got hot after shooting 150 rounds through it and obviously my steel sights need a tiny windage correction. Other than that - It's a keeper!
