The recent discussion on the role of competition in a training plan got me to thinking about how I set up stages for my local club matches. One of the things I wanted to do was incorporate a shoot house into the next 3-gun match. So I took an afternoon and set up a small portable shoot house that we have. There's not much to it, but it's something different as opposed to the normal stages. I had my son as a guinea pig and later some of the other club members. I think I achieved my goal of coming up with something different and new. Most of the guys hadn't shot in any type of house before so they found it very eye opening.

I would strongly encourage this to anyone who has the access to a chunk of land to set one up. It took me about 8 hours total working alone. I used various props and sheet plastic for the walls with 2x4 bases. It doesn't look like much but it's pretty effective.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone else who's done this. Any lessons learned, creative ideas or solutions.

The one thing I found right off is dealing with shoot through down range into the next room and maintaining the 180 safety zone. You really need to be on top of the situation.

Here's a couple of videos showing two different layouts.
