Long rendered obsolete by stainless, polymer, and all kinds of high-tech coatings. Still, nothing spells C - L - A - S - S like the original Midnight.

Post 'em if ya gottem!

I wanted to get it refinished with something more durable (rust resistant) but i just like the classic look too much.

It's a Wilson "tactical" thumb safety

Beautiful pistol Jason! How does the nitre blue wear compared to black oxide?

Classy pistol! I'm sure a lot of time and work went into truing the lines and prepping the metal for finishing. The lines are immaculate!

Here is a custom order Wilson Combat, with optional blueing by Doug Turnbull......an option that is growing in popularity;)

Something about a blued Wilson speaks to me.

Makes me wonder how costly it would be to strip down my SDS and have it re-done in the "inferior" Old School finish. While I'm at it, maybe I could have the model inscriptions ground off of the slide, too. =]

It is good to see Wilson's making a comeback in the built-to-order side of the business.

Army Chief,
Glad you like it! We have always done "custom orders" and also continue to do quite bit of custom work on Colts, Springfields, etc. I will admit that we have not done a good job of communicating that in the past. We have "standard models", mainly to make things easier for our dealer network, but we will build a 1911 using just about any combination of our componets that you can imagine( before folks ask, we will not build a compact or professional in 10mm:rolleyes: ). We will even use some aftermarket parts on a case by case basis. I'll post some more custom order guns in this thread. Anyone interested, stop by the Wilson Combat subforum here on M4carbine.net , and you will see quite a few special guns featured;)

I just remember that making changes used to be more of a "strictly by exception" sort of thing; that said, when I asked for Ed Brown ambis to be installed on a Classic and the aforementioned SDS at the time of initial order, the shop obliged me without any real drama.

To each his own, of course, but a Wilson re-worked Colt Series 70 in a nice deep blue would be consistent with my idea of a legitimate heirloom 1911.

From dad, need to get it lettered but I think it's from the mid/late 60s?
