Here is an article from US SEALs Ethos magazine, Issue 10, pages 9-11 on SCAR H.

Seems like good reports on accuracy and stopping power. Very nice. :D

I appreciate you posting this.

Sounds like the SEALs who have deployed with the MK17 are falling in love with the platform.

Now I just need to ask FN if they plan on selling the MK16 conversion kit on the civilian market. Damn two rifles in one, that is the true beauty of this system.

Great article. Thank you.

I loved this quote:
“We shot guys with a 5.56
millimeter center mass and had them walk in five hours later and say
‘you shot me.’ Then we would medically evacuate them. If you hit a
guy center mass – he needs to die. That is the whole point of shooting
at someone; not to do anything less than that." :D

Only 350 rifles with 225 more on order?

Wow. I would have thought there would have been alot more than that.

That kind of explains why the SCAR 17s is so rare stateside. With such a low order quantity they are probably still in prototype/early production mode. They probably only have a couple of guys and some engineers building these rifles over in a corner somewhere with components coming off of temporary or prototype tooling unless those components are common with some other product.

I have new respect for FN's commitment to the civilian side of things. (And a better understanding of why they cost so damn much.)

When I trained with the 19th, they were all about the prospect of getting the MK17, but weren't too concerned or enamored with the MK16.

I'll be adding a MK17 to the collection when ever they are more readily available and the price drops a bit.

Hopefully not to much of a thread drift:

Was there something specifically they had issue with regarding the MK16 or did they simply feel the M4 was adaquet and did not need replacement? I understand the premise that M4 works fine therefore do not need the MK16. But if one was fielding both 5.56 and 7.62 systems, wouldn't one want them on the same platform for a variety of reasons (same manual of arms, parts commonality, less training issues, etc.)?

A high speed acquaintance mentioned this issue to me: Would there be supply/repair issues with limited deployment of the SCAR-L? Also, would there be sufficient train-up to beat the crap out of the L until it breaks?

It wasnt anything against the M4 or MK16. They just wanted to put bigger holes in people.

That's great that we're putting something like that in the hands of our guys who need it, and 150+ grain bullets in guys that need it.

That said, I'm quite happy with my DSA 18" Para FAL for now (thanks Templar)

Right. What I was referring to was to field both the MK16 and 17. As opposed to the M4 family of rifles in order to have as much commonality as possible between 5.56 and 7.62 platforms. Im sure it is probably a cost thing, since they cant have both...they are going with 7.62 MK17...

WTF? That has got be the most assed up fanboy sight I have ever seen. The privacy policy says it is a government website but WHOIS says different. I didn't know the .mil types were hosting websites through GoDaddy...

Thanks Gabe. Very informative article. Clears up a lot of false information.

I hate to see the Mk16 getting passed up. Very fine weapon.
