So I figured I'd share the results of a very unscientific ammo test with y'all. I used a Glock 27 to fire a .40 S&W Federal expanding FMJ into a gallon jug of water with a wet phone book behind it. I used a Bersa Thunder 380 to fire a round of Federal Hydrashock hollowpoint into the same target (different gallon jug of course http://www.ar15.com/images/smilies/icon_smile_wink.gif). Both were fired from a distance of 7 yards. As a side note, I no longer own either handgun (I now own a Glock 19 and Walther PPS 9mm).Both were great handguns and never gave me any trouble, but I wanted to switch over to all 9mm.

As you can see, the .40 almost doubled in size when measured at its greatest width (.75"). The Hydrashock performed well also, with the maximum width measuring .69". The .40 made it about 1/3 of the way into the phonebook, with the .380 coming in close behind it (maybe 1/4 into the phonebook). Nasty stuff.
