I am reloading .223 for a M4 Carbine. I am using Remington 55gr FMJ w/ cannular, I am finding a variation in bullet length from .712 to .738. The common size that has the most in the length is .724 at 20 bullets, all the rest are at 2 to 9 bullets out of 100 count. Has anyone run into this problem? I am thinking of setting up my seating die using the .724 size to try and get a consistant OAL. Any suggestions are welcome.

The Remington 55gr FMJ cannulers and ogive are very inconsistent. Load them so they all are magazine length or less and you will be OK.

Thanks for the info, that is what my plan was going to be. I guess that it the last time I will buy them!!!

This is just my opinion. I'm sure some others swear by Remington stuff, but I've been reloading for 34 years & I avoid Remington components whenever possible. I just always have some sort of minor problem every time I use them.

It's been years since I've used any Remmy components, so maybe they've changed.

I use the rem 55 gr fmj every so often. I've only run a few hundred of them, but there's never been an issue.

I always load to correct OAL regardless of cannalure position.

The problem I had was that the ogive was so inconsistent I could not get a consistent OAL. The bullets I had appeared to have been made form three different machines.

I purchased 500 of these bullets a little while ago and agree they are all over the place as far as length goes and the cannalure also.Good for plinking but not much else.Accuracy not too good.
