I agree,,I have a couple Turner NM slings,,good stuff !!! I have a Standard Leather & one of the Biothane Synthetic sling,,both work great. Also,,,a little tip for ya,,go to the Turner website & look for 2nds,,they are cheaper because of some blemish,,although when I got mine I could never find the problem !!:D Another question is what are you gonna use it for,,Service rifle competition,,general range work,,tactical stuff,,etc !!! For the Service rifle stuff,,the Turner is good,,general range work,,just get a GI Cotton/Nylon sling,,for tactical stuff,,I have a Specter Gear Sling,,,works pretty good on my short BBL rifles !!

Also as good as the Turner are,,if ya need a NM sling and want something different & what I call the BEST NM sling get a Les Tam,,they are awesome,,,cost a bit more,,,but I feel they are well worth it !!! Just my 2 cent worth !!

I have a Turner sling on my Garand and like it very much. It has that retro appeal if that is what you are looking for.

Turner Saddlery is second tier.

Leslie Tam makes the best National Match M1907 sling. Period. End of story. Not even close.

4-5 months wait? What makes them better than the Turrners?

Hand made,,,he calls you & talks it over with you,, what you are gonna use the rifle/sling for,,the workmanship is 2nd to NONE & they are thicker,,better quality leather,,(Not that the Turners are bad,,they are not) !!!! It is a awesome sling !!! I was lucky,,when I got mine,,it was only about 2 weeks from the time I talked with Les till I received the sling !!! Looks like he is a bit busier now,,,,;)

I second the Biothane slings.

I used Turner, then Tam for years in Hi-power and got turned onto the Biothane slings.

All of the benefits of leather with none of the drawbacks.

Try them before you buy them and you decide.

Are they simular in weight to leather? More? Less?

How do you plan on using your rifle?

If you might shoot national match or want to keep the classic look of the M14 then go with a military sling. I have a Turners on my match gun and had a DPMS on my Socom. The DPMS is old and not that good of quality, took a lot of leather cream and work to soften up. The Turners is very nice and soft. I can't comment on the "1st Tier Slings" by TAM as I am only 2nd Tier. :(

If you plan to use it for more of a "tactical/action" style shooting or even hunting, then you could look into an adjustable 2 point like Vikings Tactics. You can get a buttstock adapter and then attach the front to the gas system or better yet attach a side sling swivel to the stock so you won't be torquing you gas system if you are using the sling for support while firing. You can get the padded sling from Viking which will help distribute weight a little better. This is the route I have decided to take with the Socom.

Utah1 - How is that ARMS mount working out for you?

Longhunter,

Weight, design are pretty much identical.

You can't go wrong with either. I prefer the Bio-thanes

The suppleness of the leather. The perfect thickness of the leather. The stitching on the keepers. The attention to every detail. Everything.

You have to actually use a Tam sling to truly understand why it is superior.

Biothane sling keepers are a royal PITA to slide around and they make it nearly impossible for the sling to tighten like it should.

I tried to work with one for half a season and gave up and sold it.

Used a canvas GI sling until my Tam came in and then never looked back.
