Is that the Fortus rail? If so, how do you like it? My brother is looking into getting one.

Yes, it's a Fortis Rev.
Finally got my 300 blackout build ready for night with the Surefire X400V IRc. Loving it so far. White light, IR light and IR laser all in one, lightweight, compact unit.

@Tinycrumb: Wow!...two fine rifles. Functionally and aesthetically perfect.
Thanks! Only thing I'd like to change is switching to the URX4 M-LOK when it comes out and then possibly getting a variable optic on there. They're sure fun to shoot!

One of these days I'll actually take a nice picture. But this is my wife's AR. I built it with the idea that it would be a fully capable HD gun, while remaining as light as possible. It's so close to being done - all it really needs is a set of MBUS PROs and a Geissele SSA, though it does have the nicest mil spec trigger I've ever felt. I've checked multiple times to make sure I didn't order a BCM lower with a QMS or something. They'll be some other parts swapped after that, but those two will bring it up to about 95% done.

I like it. It's nice and light and affordable. This gun is a few years old and if I would build this gun today, I'd use an SLR rail instead because I like how they attach way better than the Fortis.

Nice rifles, TinyCrumb.
I am curious what suppressor you have there that fits inside of the BMC KMR.
Also, can you post a front profile pic showing how your X400V IR sits it relation to the boreline?
I've thought of getting an X400V IR, but am unsure your far off boreline the laser is.
Thanks.

That isn't a KMR, it's a Knights Armament URX4. The can is an AAC SDN-6.
The x400's laser doesn't sit too far off the boreline. I've attached a pic for you but it's going to look magnified from the front because of the angle, but it's really not that far.
Here's Minuteman's post regarding this setup:
If you are like me and run your IR laser parallel to the optic, it was very nice because the laser was almost as high as the centerline of the optic (10mm below if I recall). So, I set the elevation 10mm below my T-1, and then I did the same for the windage. 36mm if I recall to the right of the centerline of my optic, so again....zeroed the laser with that much offset to the right. End result was I had virtually no elevation difference to remember, and just had to put the laser about an inch and a half right of where I wanted my round to hit. My thoughts; if the IR laser is perfectly parallel to your optic, it will never cross over it, IE end up on the other side of it at ANY distance. Makes drop easy as hell to remember too if I shoot with an IR laser at distance.

Love the Camo job, I have to say though, I don't think I've ever seen a Flashlight mounted so far back and I get it NO Rail(s) to mount it forward.
How's it work, does it not cast a big barrel shadow?

I'd move the optic back onto the receiver, off the handguard. Does it retain zero once the handguard gets hot?

This my very first AR so still new to all this setting stuff up on it still have to tweak the red dot some more to get it dead on. Once I get it on will see if it retains zero.

Just finished up these paint jobs on my kids' guns. For 4.5 and 6.5 they have some hardware to rival some guns on here. My boy has been behind his gun and my daughter will be getting her turn shortly. We're learning slowly by shooting prone (bipod and rear bag) at milk jugs. But for more dynamic shooting I'll be building a lightweight 22LR upper to start them running and gunning before full strength with their own uppers.

Let me know your thoughts. Also the prices next to parts are with shipping, tax, transfer fees, etc. all rounded up, actual price is probably a few dollars less.

The hammer forging process work hardens the steel, making it more durable. Looks okay. It was a gift and that's the important thing.
Could've done better, could've done worse. But again it was a gift.
All that said, don't be discouraged if this thread gets closed. There's an AR picture thread for show and tell posts on gener or non-peculiar builds.
Otherwise welcome aboard
Needs an optic. Also the mbus is backwards. Welcome to M4C
Also the mbus is backwards.Correct. According to Magpul's instructions, the rear sight must be mounted with the Magpul logo located toward the front (muzzle end) of the rifle.
You have a decent set-up. If it's a gift from the family and you're happy with it, that's all that matters. You shouldn't give two-f**ks what a bunch of internet guys think about your rig. Shoot your rifle and enjoy it.

I had a bass-ackwards MBUS, and I blame Stick! I looked off of one of his pics on the website and installed the sight accordingly. Curiously, I could find the direction nowhere in the printed instructions, nor any guidance on how to jump off of said bridge. :D

I installed mine backwards initially too and I dont think that functionally there's much of a difference with either orientation. An aperture works no matter which way you look through it. Mounting it backwards does limit how far back you can mount your primary optic though.
Yep, and since I sometimes run a vortex magnifier, my solution was to install offsets so I could get the shortest eye relief possible. Its sorted out now.

Be careful running KNS pins with the Geissele trigger. I seem to recall Geissele saying that it's best to use their pins as they're harder than the rest on the market. They also cited that running different pins could lead to breaking a pin.

This is what I paid and it has shot less than 1/2" 5 shot groups with 65 gr. GKs and 3/8" with 69 gr. MKs at 100 yds.
This is what I did and this is what it cost me. The scope was extra for $200 and about $69 for the rings (can get less expensive to keep under $1500).
Scope is a Bushnell AR/223 Tactical with 4.5-18x40mm. Rings are Warne QD Ultra High Aluminum.

Colt M4 Lower = $450
Geissele SSA-E trigger = $230

Shipping = $18

There's a lot more to the quality of an AR than how well it shoots 5 shot groups from a bench. Even using that as a benchmark, they're all pretty accurate. You've got an 18" SS match barrel shooting 5 rounds of hand loaded ammo into 1/2" @ 100 from a bench. Here's a 10.3" MK18, (oh so inaccurate if you believe some) chrome lined barrel, shot prone from the bed of my truck at 100 yds. 5 rounds without the suppressor (.75") and 5 rounds with (shifts the group 1" downward). That's shooting factory 55gr ammo (Hornady Vmax) too. This is first and foremost a fighting gun, so the accuracy is more than enough for me, but this rifle has also fired a flawless 1,500+ rounds, 1/2 of which have been suppressed. I think you'll find that this particular forum is more impressed with a gun's reliability under adverse conditions than its bench rest accuracy.

What wife wants..... You know the drill.
Wife wanted a full color fill Spike's Spider lower. Picked one up at Primary Arms and added BCM Stock and pistol grip in FG.
Then to BCM for a 16" standard LW barreled upper, BCG and MD with #4 CH. I added the B5 Systems keymod handguard. It is
very small diameter, close to barrel. We will see hot heat/hot transfers. IWC mount and a Streamlight flashlight for now.
The factory ST trigger is creepy and mushy @ 6lb 10oz avg. ALG is probably or SSA sometime down the road. ST-2 buffer
replaced with an H buffer. I have a Magpul trigger guard, just have not changed it out yet.

Got it at the local stove/grill store for like $13. I have been re painting it about once a year for the past 3 years. It works rather well with about 4 coats. I re painted it this week after about 3 consecutive mags in full auto and it barely bubbled up. The color is a little lighter than the rest of the tan on the gun but after a few months it will get dirty.
Cory needs to paint the rest of the rifle to match
Well I can't paint the lower but it does need a new barrel and bolt so I was considering painting the KMR.

Talk about surgical precision design, this one has to take the cake. Very well done! Actually, mine is similar to your AR so I can really appreciate the attention to detail. Heck, I almost opted for a very similar color scheme but changed at the last minute. Mine is being built by Wilson Combat so I'll post pics whenever it arrives. Frankly, they're getting sick of hearing from me. Say, it would be interesting to see your build list of parts used. I opted for the VX 1-6 FireDot but you're optic appears to be a different version of the Mk6?

Hahaha.. I'm assuming your referring to the camo form wrap. Adds a
little more grip texture where needed. It's a cheaper but effective way
to keep a pressure switch in place. Also there's nothing that sticks out
more than a black Leupold on a painted rifle. It's better than painting
it and also serves as somewhat of a shock absorber.

Thanks, yeah I was really OCD on that build, turned out 99% how I wanted. Only change is I think I'm going to switch the rail to the new Seekins MCSR V2 now that their barrel nuts work with the Adams Arms piston, the samson rail leaves some to be desired. Here are a few more pics of how the rail/can meet up.

Lol I know, not REALLY a mk12, but that's what's printed on the upper receiver. Lol.
Haven't had a chance to go out past 225 yds yet, but at that range, 77gr SMK Fed GMM shoots 2.5" - relatively new shooter here, so in the hands of someone more experienced could probably do a lot better.
The rifle length gas sure makes it shoot nice though.

How was it getting the stock barrel nut off? We replaced a forend on a friend's BCM upper, and it was really tightened on there.

Well, if you do your part, the DD MK12 will shoot sub MOA all day long. Although I have read mixed reviews, hard to argue with these results:

A cheater bar was DEFINITELY a requirement .
I have a good steel barrel nut wrench with a pretty long handle and it wasn't coming
off without a good length of pipe .
I smile at women all day. :D

Glad to hear that is normal. We were using a vice block that was in a vice mounted to a bench. The bench wasn't bolted down at all, and we lifted up the back legs just trying to get the nut off! We eventually got a long cheater and finally got it off. It makes me even more confident in the upper I have, but pretty hesitant to get an upper and try replacing the forend again.

I actually was stuck deciding between Charcoal and this Navy color. I actually went with the Charcoal, but found out they were out of stock after the order was placed. I called Larue up directly and changed the color to Navy and never looked back. Good subtle color for this case.

Are you talking about the case? Larue Covert Case MKII. Behind the 2 coyote M4 mag pouches in the zipper compartment, I can stick 2 30 rounders in. The blue mag pouch (came with case) on the left an hold an additional 2 30 rounder mags. The m4 mag pouches hold my G17 and G17 mags. I could technically configure it to hold magazines as well.

Sold my Colt 6920 and put this together recently. Only have a few hundred rounds through it but this thing can shoot. For those wondering what happened to the bayonet lug, I live in MA which is an AWB state, so that means no bayonet lugs, no flash hiders, and no collapsible stocks. Yeah it sucks, but I still ended up with a decent rifle.

Thank you! It was inspired by a rifle from the video game Destiny. They changed the name by the time the game was officially released but I liked Arcus better than Surios. I sent the parts and the Pic to Blowndeadline and he did the rest.

Thanks, and yeah I really like the FCS stock as well. Since it's fixed, it has zero play which is nice, and although the LOP is on the shorter side, it's very quick to shoulder and it's the perfect length with my plate carrier on.
