Actually, I've been posting gun pics online from roughly the time the internet got popular. Digital cameras were game changing events, and while the basics of film cameras switched over easily enough, digital offered some nice advantages. I cam into the game at the right time and place. I can't remember, but I think it was the owner/ founder of Magpul who came to me and asked me to start shooting pics for them. Next it was Daniel Defense, and it went on and on. Along the way I learned a lot, and set a lot of trends.

I’m debating trying my PA 2.5x prism scope mounted on the carry handle of my 723 clone, so I stuck it on for a photo op…..it does look kinda cool. Although I’ve got very little experience with carry handle mounted optics so we’ll see how I actually like it.

Also I have a bit of a fondness for Combloc “plum” colored furniture. The other day I was experimenting with rattle can paint on some AK mags to see how close I could imitate the color.
On a whim I decided to try it on some spare AR furniture and threw it on my Colt 14.5” p/w M4/AERO mutt to see how it would look.
Honestly it’s not *too* far off from the real thing and I kinda like it.

New pistol setup from Maxim Defense. You can see companies are keeping their bases covered for the possible "brace wars" with the ATF. Even if the feds don't kill braces, I think we will see a few states jump in.

It’s a 16” tapered barrel with rifle length gas system that Rainier Arms did. I got this barrel used as someone else bought it and claimed it wouldn’t fire under 1” groups at 100 yards. I have to wonder how many barrels get returned to RA under there 1” guarantee, or maybe I should say I wonder how many people are clueless. I have a few “bad” Ra barrels that were returned, and each of them shoots under 1” without any trouble at all for me using off the shelf ammo. The funny part is that I do not consider myself a good distance shooter.

Nothing strange about it at all. When bolt action rifles ruled the world, builders knew a thing or two about barrel profiles. Thicker at the chamber to help control heat, tapered to keep center of gravity closer to the action, improve handling and increase stiffness over a straight contour barrel of the same weight & length. They called this a "Sporter Contour" and is offered in featherweight, lightweight, standard, varmint and so on.

The M&P10 I have uses a sporter contour barrel and makes a difference in how it handles.

I seems to get on absolutes more consistently, maybe it’s the college trap and skeet or the fact that the LPVOs I’ve ran multigun with have always been absolute.
I might be about to sell the 1/3’s off my micros.

Doesn't have to be. It's just the status quo. The reason is twofold. Nobody will buy a can that's not warrantied for full auto on an SBR, which is absurd. And then hardly anyone wants a can that doesn't have a QD system. That not only adds unnecessary weight in and of itself, but the muzzle device also takes up volume, meaning more can to achieve the same result, and adds useless weight.

ETA: And both of those buying habits are a direct result of how hard and expensive they are to get. If people pay a 200 dollar tax on top of sales tax, that's like 30-50% usually on top of the sticker price, and we won't even talk about the six month to two year wait. So people not only want a can that's going to last forever, they want to have one can for every single gun they own, and be able to quickly change back and forth at the range.

If cans could just be permanent muzzle devices that lived on a gun, or better yet were an integral part of them, the weights would be negligible. The cans I build weigh about 7-10 ounces. Granted they won't last long on full auto, but they'll last as long as a barrel or three on a normal gun. Might have to replace the blast baffle each barrel change or something, but that's no biggie. And if cans could be integrated, the weight could get on par with an unsuppressed gun.

Years ago I got a Colt M4 heavy barrel and a dark earth RIS II FSP on the EE and ended up building this very loosely inspired SOPMOD 2 carbine from parts I had lying around.

It shoots great and is famously accurate as the Colt heavy barrels are known to be, but I was never fully happy or inspired by it... So last night I stripped the upper of accessories to sell it off but when I got down to bare upper/rail/barrel it was just so perfect I couldn't sell [emoji3525]

So now I need to figure out if better accessorizing can make it work for me. I can't leave the rails bare but maybe go black? Other ideas??

Perhaps you could try to lighten up the optic and rear sight by using a T-1, T-2, or similar optic, and investing in a KAC flip-up rear sight or a Griffin Armament rear sight.

Stickman can obviously speak for himself, but having been a serious amateur photographer for over 50 years, and my wife of 42 years has been likewise, I can tell you that good quality lenses (Nikon in my case--I see Stickman is a Canon user--same thing in terms of cost) are more expensive than most of my firearms. We have been transitioning to mirrorless camers (Nikon Z7) and mirrorless lenses. Each time I buy one for the wife, I make sure she knows that lens is equal to five (5) Glocks or whatever I am buying at the time. Her camera equipment is worth three times what I have invested in firearms (and I have "several"). Heck, a RRS tripod and ball mount costs more than most upper tier AR rifles.

I just did. At B&H Photo (where I do a lot of photography shopping) the Canon 600mm 4.0L lens is merely $12,999. The equivalent Nikon is only slightly less at $12,299. You can buy a lot of rifle for those prices.

The longer you look the more apparent the “wrong” assortment of features become.

It’s actually one of my A1 clones that ended up getting the upper receiver swapped out for a flattop in anticipation of getting an optic of some kind down the road. I love Retro ARs but for a while now I’ve been shifting focus toward more “practical” rifle configurations and this is part of that overall err “modernization process” to my collection.

Hardest part was finding a flattop upper *without* M4 feed ramps to properly match up to the barrel.

I was going to do a write up on this thing over in the custom build forum but I got a little way into it and lost the will to do a whole big post on the individual components and the optic and the rationale behind why I went with them.
But basically this is my take on the Diemaco/Colt Canada C7A2 or the “M16A5” concept.
20” upper on a adjustable stock lower. A TA-110 LED ACOG is the optic.

Finished it today, took it to the range and fired about 50 rounds. The weather at the range made me opt against trying to dial in a really good zero. I did get a *rough* 100yd zero with both the backup sights and the ACOG, but the high winds made trying to get a really good zero kinda pointless. I’ll do that on a calmer day. Initial impression is that it’s a very pleasant shooter.

This one is a favorite, and is crazy smooth shooting. I need to play around with the buffer more to see what sort of difference it makes. Shooting garbage super week Wolf steel stuff, I use a standard buffer and carbine spring. This AR uses and intermediate length gas system, and with anything other than Wold I drop in the intended spring and buffer which came with it.

I'm not a good yardstick for items being available to the public, I'm more a yardstick for stuff hiding in strange places. I can say that it should be pretty soon, but that doesn't really mean all that much. I know that Aimpoint (US) wishes they were already here. There isn't much they can do about it though, shipping stuff across the pond is all over the map, and as a consumer I don't want to hear the price went up $50+ because of shipping charges.

I was going to do a write up on this thing over in the custom build forum but I got a little way into it and lost the will to do a whole big post on the individual components and the optic and the rationale behind why I went with them.
But basically this is my take on the Diemaco/Colt Canada C7A2 or the “M16A5” concept.
20” upper on a adjustable stock lower. A TA-110 LED ACOG is the optic.

Finished it today, took it to the range and fired about 50 rounds. The weather at the range made me opt against trying to dial in a really good zero. I did get a *rough* 100yd zero with both the backup sights and the ACOG, but the high winds made trying to get a really good zero kinda pointless. I’ll do that on a calmer day. Initial impression is that it’s a very pleasant shooter.

What grip is that? Hell what rail and wrap is that? Love everything about that setup
