Kind of funny how carbine tastes change from 2 years ago. I was browsing from page 1 of this thread, and noticed how carbine length rails are going the way of the dodo. I guess it's taken a while to trickle down. Longer rails have been popular for years in 3 gun matches. Now tactical firearms instructors are teaching different techniques that have their roots in competitive shooting, and it works. It's funny how things evolve.

I'm surprised it hadn't occurred sooner. The carbine-length system is a waste, with 9" of barrel extending out past the HG.
Plain old-fashioned utilitarianism would dictate that extending the HG or RIS out further provides more mounting room, and a less cluttered setup.
I believe the longer rails are negating some of the use of a VFG. I've always thought the VFG's purpose, for me, was allowing a way to grip the weapon with modular kit creating an O-course for my mittens.

Oh yea, definitely. I found them by chance the other day and have really been enjoying their album. I think my favorite one is "Patterns," cuz nothing's going to save you from the six six six. :D

Nope, I don't shoot pictures of departmental issued items unless it is solely for departmental use. My pictures have ended up in a bunch of training manuals as departmental propaganda, but none of that is ever posted online. I keep a pretty clear line between my off duty and on duty works.

Paul, you are the ****ing man. Ever heard the saying, "Can't quit. Not dead." ? Your name really should be right next to that saying in the dictionary. And I mean that in the most sincere, absolute form of respect possible. This shit inspires me and it ought to inspire anyone else with a heartbeat that reads it.

Just released to the public finally for about $7k. I'll stick with my POF AR10 for that kinda scratch. Don't get my wrong, it's WAY nice but I can miss just as much stuff with my 'half price' system. :D

Tungsten, thanks for the kind and motivating words, brother!
Winfield, Semper Fi!
The Battle Rifle was awesome to shoot! I only got to fire a quick 7-8 rounds and really wish I could have much more time with one. I'd like to shoot one at longer ranges and would especially like to hunt some hogs with it at my buddies ranch! Maybe one of these days.
I'm not sure about it's availability to civs or if any are even available in general... guess that would've been a good question to ask, huh? I almost want to start saving up money for it now, and maybe within the next year or so I'll have enough cash to buy some form of an SR-25 and the optic to go along with it:D
One of these days, it will be mine!

Paul your my new hero, I have not totally lost the ability to walk yet, but I do have to use a wheelchair when I am going to be walking or standing for more than 30min. I have degenerative disk disease in my spine and as a result have had to have my entire spine fused, and about 8 yrs ago C2 (I think that is the one) disk slipped out when I was sleeping leaving me what they call an incomplete quadriplegic, meaning I can use my hands and legs but not to their full potential. It is getting progressively worse, and I find myself needing my wheelchair more and more. I was wondering why you prefer using the "bug out bag" as apposed to a vest of some kind? I am trying to figure out what works best for me and I don't have a bunch of money to invest in numerous setups, any info you can give me is greatly appreciated.

Exactly what I was thinking. The blur isn't tall enough to be a VFG. I'm sure they saw the KAC offering at $60 and figured it could be sold at half that for more than a fair amount of profit.

would like to know the barrel (manufacture) looks like a 14.5" barrel but I'm not sure.....curious if the vortex is pinned or not, what FCG do you have in it, weight (if you know), assuming that's a 12" DD lite rail....a lot of the rest of it is self evident. Really curious on the weight more than anything

The barrel is a 14.5" Noveske Afghan. It is medium contour stainless steel so it's definitely not light. The UBR helps to balance it out. When I shoot this barrel out I'll most likely replace it with a BCM lightweight barrel when those are released next year.
The rail is a 12" DD Lite--it was the only Lite Rail length that would completely cover the gas block. The FCG is just a Rock River Arms LPK, nothing special. I haven't weighed the rifle yet, but I'll get around to it this weekend.

Well, I hope we did this correctly, and you're looking at my AR.It started as a Bushmanter.Long Before we had a computer I started"tweaking" it,just like every gun I own.The upper is a LMT. The BUIS are A.R.M.S The rail system is also an A.R.M.S. I know that they're not a favorite here at M4 but I like them. I now need to replace the Lower, Trigger group, Bolt and Carrier etc. Anyway hereit is good or bad. Take care of your self and all of those around you.;)

I was curious as to what brand lower it was too. I honestly thought the letters on the side said "HKD," but the supposed "H" I thought I was seeing is actually just part of the logo design I guess. I'm not sure what it's actually supposed to be there.
Can someone explain what that logo is supposed to be, for us "less smart" folks?:)

Very nice DD! I just put a RAS on my LMT 10.5". Up next is a SOPMOD and an LMT BUIS.
I have been really pleased with the handling of this weapon configured as is. About all I would change is:
Change A2 grip for A1 (or MIAD/MOE or TD)
Maybe go with an X300 or M300 weapon light in the future, but the M600C works for now. The correct light would be an M962 but that thing is a BEAST!
I am using a Magpul MS2 sling as the Dieter/Blackhawk bungie is a no-go for me. An ASAP or a SLAP plate might work better than the CQD plate I have on there now. This said though the Dieter CQD plate works very well and to me would have one less potential failure point than the ASAP.
MK18 Fans would call for an M2 in a Wilcox mount. I have the M2 and the Wilcox mount, and it is my favorite Aimpoint/mount combo made. However the T1 does everything the M2 will do that much better. This little gun wore an M2 for about 5 minutes and has since been swapped out for the T1.
Thanks for all of the kind words everyone!

I am too but as of right now I am stuck with short, carbine, handguards. I am looking into putting the Troy 12"MRF-cx so that I do not have to get a replacement front sight... Does any one have either good or bad experiances with troy before I get one... I mean I know that their sights are the shit but never really read much on the rails.
Yeah, I've got a Troy MRF and they're great. Check this thread, everything you need to know about Troy MRF rails.
http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=173
The one drawback is they weigh a little more than the DD Omega Rail, but on the flip side, they're much stronger. In fact, the Troy rails are supposed to be the strongest rail system in terms of ruggedness.

It's a damn shame that morons blast the trees there. It's a public shooting area in the National Forest in Colorado. We're loosing so many from stupidity and littering. My wife and I collected about 2 contractor sized bags of trash from the area, and posted signs about not shooting the trees and picking up after yourselves. We got most of the soda bottles and junk laying around, but we didn't even make a dent in the shotgun hulls and casing others have left.
and is she wearing a NIN shirt?!?!

That was actually just a geek-check, Titleist, to see who's spending too much time on the gun forums! You win!!:D:p
Seriously though, I haven't seen a chrome plated .22 kit. Wonder if it's more reliable that way. Mine just sucks, which is why I don't use it anymore. Plus I can't stand how nasty and dirty it makes my expensive muzzle brakes/flash hiders. Even with Carbon Cutter, those things are a pain to clean off the lead buildup and other shit that sticks to them after firing .22 through them.

can i get more info on your belt setup? thanks
Of course. Diamondback tactical duty belt, pistol pouches, AR pouches. Everything is mirror image. 2 double pistol mag pouches-front right 2 oclock, and left 10 oclock positions . 2 AR mag pouches on the right side, and 2 on the left. For classes and 3 gun shoots I run a Safariland drop leg. I also have 2 SG shell holders in the front between the pistol mag pouches and buckle.

The one I have is a very early model. Its from a time when they were staking a different way, and not including certain things. They listened to thoughts and comments, and have made changes. Currently you are getting a shot peened MPI setup that is staked properly from my understanding. They have posted a few times about this somewhere here on M4C.

Dammit! When I told you about that you said you'd never repeat it, ****ing liar!! I mean, isn't the point of buying these things to look really cool and post pics of them on the pic threads?:D
But seriously, I just have about 3,000 rounds through that gun, which really darkened the TT brake from the muzzle end to about halfway back. The rest of the black shit is just some carbon from using a guy's KAC M4QD suppressor at a recent carbine course.

Awesome blaster brother!
I just noticed that there's some variation with the BAD. It seems the older version has more material machined off where it the magpul name is on there.
This is mine when I got it back in September.

Here's mine. I'm a full time student right now, so it's a slow-going project. But it's coming along nice and steady. Next on the list is a scope. I'm trying to get a solid bargain scope to tide me over until I can fit something better into my budget. (Anyone have any suggestions?). I will also appreciate this time I have to get more proficient running on only my back-up sights.
Cheers.

RetreatHell, what brand is your Billet lower and is it Low Shelf? And where did your buy it?
Larue Tactical, bought it from an FFL friend of mine who snags Larue lowers when he buys an upper for a customer. He'll either sell it to the customer who bought the upper, or someone else (like me:D)
I have no idea what Low Shelf means... care to educate me?

RetraetHell, what name is on the Lower? So I can look it on flat-top. Is it High or Low Shelf?
I still haven't a clue what you're really asking me here. The actual company who makes the lowers for Larue (I'm assuming) is "SMOS," (Stubborn Mule Outdoor Supply, LLC.) which are the 4 letters behind the Magpul BAD Lever that you can't see in the pic. Other than that, and the big Larue Tactical logo and damn nice engraving of my great state of Texas on the right side of the mag well, there's nothing else engraved and no other roll marks on there, brother.
Sorry... that's all I got for ya, man. Hopefully this helps you out though.

It's a 16" BCM standard barrel with a 12" Daniel Defense Lite Rail. It's a fantastic setup that feels great in hand and very well balanced. With the longer 12" Lite Rail, the weight of the upper is more evenly dispersed, making it feel much lighter than other similar uppers.

did you have any problems with the safety selector? my seekins lower seems to be out of spec, had to modify my ambi selector to get it to fit right, the hole where the selector pivot is off... and its not the selector since we put the same one on a dd lower and lwrc lower.

Not quite sure what you mean here... I didn't do anything special or anything to make the KAC rail panels fit on any of the 3 sections of rail that they're on.
Thanks a lot for the great compliment, too!

I think it's because the KAC panels require a notch in the picatinny rail to lock in to that he's wondering about.
i.e on a URX they only lock in at a few configs.

Paul I know it is off topic... But what bag is that... I like it....:D
It's a Tactical Revolution bag. Not sure which model though, as their website is undergoing some changes and I couldn't look it up.
It's a great bag, though! Very durable and rugged. The zipper, velcro, buckles, molle webbing and stitching are all top notch. It also comes with a removable flap, which I obviously removed and just use the zipper instead for closure. The bag has velcro lining both sides of the interior, so you can buy whatever velcro-backed accessories/pouches you want and configure it however you'd like, although I still haven't done this myself.
Right now I'm just using it as a great range bag. I just throw whatever gear/optics/crap I'm going to use that day at the range in there and go. But depending on how you set it up and how creative you are, you could really use it however you'd like.

Ohhh, okay gotcha. No I didn't have to do any mods for it to clip into place. Although it doesn't take much pressure when pushing down on the clip to make it "unlock" i order to slide it off. But so far I haven't had any problems with them. I haven't ran this gun super hard or anything, but I've shot over 800 rounds through it in different training settings/scenarios without them coming off or anything.

On certain rails there is notches that allow those particular panels to click in to positions. You can see the circular indentations his picture.

that's the original "mag pull"
that's the original "mag pull"
2. Paracord (550 cord) loops with duct tape provides a more
durable/efficient quick pull than duct tape tabs. The loop can folded
out of the way for disassembly of the magazine but the duct
tape still wears and provides a weak hold on the 550 cord.

I always pop wood when RA posts pics of his guns.
I think my wife is getting jealous.....:D
Edited to add: I still need to thank Ace for inspiring me to get the tattoo that I have wanted since I was a kid.
So, Thanks RustedAce, I got the tattoo that is my avatar back in Oct. 2006 because I saw your tat in pics of yourself in the sandbox on the other AR site. Gracias mi amigo!
The only one I have right now. I need to learn how to take good photos...
