I know you've shared techniques before, but are you using duracoat? And what kind of stencil are you using?
Thanks. Best camo job EVER imo.

Great photo. I was checking out the Cerakote (http://www.nicindustries.com/cerakote.php) site with thoughts of going this route. If anyone can link me to an instruction thread here in the forums I'd appreciate it.
Finally got around to getting a photo of my recent face-lift/makeover project for my M&P.
OLD: circa 2007, with original mil-spec furniture and mag, factory-supplied Troy rear BUIS, plain-jane sling on original swivels, Surefire G2 light on an MI front-site-base mount, and an Aimpoint ML2 red dot (actually leftover from an AK project that didn't work out) on a LaRue LT-150 mount.

NEW: Magpul M.O.E. furniture and Pmag in FDE, Blue Force Gear quick-adjust tactical sling in coyote with QD, same Surefire G2 but now on Viking Tactics mount, and Eotech XPS2 red dot.

Jimbo45 - that is a Blue Force Gear A2B stock adapter http://www.operationparts.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=A2B%2DBK I also used the Blue Force Gear 3.25" Universal Wire Loop on the handguards, and the sling is a Blue Force Gear Victory 2pt.

Neat. I am building a plain jane 20" flattop, and have a spare Vickers VCAS I want to use. That adapter will be perfect for the rear point. Now I need to decide what to do on the front...maybe a standard M4 FSB side sling adapter.

teufeldog, it's a Colt M4 (14.5) barrel on a Vltor MUR upper. a Vltor flash hider is pinned on for 16" OAL.
jason, after cleaning, degreasing, i laid down a basecoat of dark brown, green, black Krylon, in various spots/streaks/patterns. then i shot tan over it in varying intensities through mesh. that's it.

You have the coolest stuff! Like the look of that ACS stock. Considering how much I keep shelling out for sopmod stocks, may have to try one out.

Thanks civilian,
Those 2 pics of the tan/black BCM were with my Sony Cyber-Shot point and shoot camera 12.1 megapixel.
These are with my Canon XT Rebel 8 megapixel and the trash 18-55mm kit lenses. I'm picking up a 17-50mm Tamron 2.8 soon which should do a lot better. Bonnie and I are actually taking some photo classes starting in January. :)

Hatfields Gunsmithing did that for me. That's their rough texture. I wouldn't almost make my hand bleed at first. I had to sand it down quite a bit.

Yes, I wanted the clean look for my first AR build, plus I always wanted an M4gery for like the past 6 years.
I'll get all the doodads and gadgets at a later date though...
One question: Why are you using the Chains on the Rubi?
I would have to assume he was in an area that might have some ice etc... For mud and sand, a wider track (reducing tire pressure) works best... Just a guess on my side based upon doing some off road training I had with some members of the Land Rover Camel Trophy team drivers down in Lanham Md....

That's what I was thinking, but I just didn't see any ice/snow.
That's what I was thinking, but I just didn't see any ice/snow.
In fairness, a lot can change in a short period of time. I have gone from 50 degrees and sunny at the base with mud and dirt, to 35 degrees with snow and ice in a very short period of time... You can never do to much rec n order...
the reason is because he has goodyear mtr's not bfg km2's....lol. just kidding;).

but we were elk hunting and had to get up a sheet Ice hill that had already did $3000 in damage to a Ford in our group that was in 4 wheel drive and locked. Having no desire for it to happen to my vehicle I chose the safe route and they were removed shortly there after.

Sounds like a candidate for those KNS pins we were just reading about.
I'm considering picking up the DD FSP (http://www.danieldefense.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=26) rail. I don't think I've seen any photos of anybody running it here. It seems like that little bit of extra rail space would come in handy on the carbine allowing a more forward grip. Does the lack of photos indicate this isn't all that popular? Or do most people just not run with the fixed iron front sight?
theJanitor
12-07-09, 14:44
i think it's a great rail, if you know what you're gonna use the added space for. the rail that comes on the DDM4 rifle is more versatile, because of the added rails IN FRONT of the FSB. but the trade-off is weight.
i'm using the 12.0 rail on my 16" middy but i knew that my light mount was gonna be mounted on the SIDE rails along the FSB, so it was perfect for me.
Right now I don't see myself mounting a light at the 12 o'clock position in front of the front sight post, which makes the 9.5 FSP more attractive. A side mounted light, along with the new Magpul AFG would give more room and less cramped spacing than the typical 7" rail provides.
theJanitor
12-07-09, 15:39
my last pic, a few pages back , shows my solutions for getting a light installed, on both carbine and mid-length systems.
@theJanitor,
What mount are you using on the FSP for the light?

I installed one on a carbine with a flip up front sight. It did require a little modification, but it is a very solid rail system.

Thanks, Paul.
I know the magwell is butt-ugly, but it flat out works. speed reloads are smoking fast. but you know where it shines? in unconventional positions: on your back, on your side, when your arms are squeezed under you, etc. you just gotta get close, and the magwell funnels that reload in.
it's really sturdy, and i don't see it failing in a way that would prevent me from using the gun. win-win, in my book

Edwin, why do you run your aimpoints flipped around to the opposite side like that? Just personal preference? Are you a lefty as well?
I never noticed that before on your blasters. I guess running the aimpoint that way converts the windage knob to elevation, and the elevation to windage... right? Have you ever run into any problems with it like that?
Semper Fi,
-Paul
The Comp knobs were built to do that, and are marked on the adjustments as such so that they work both ways. I've seen a bunch of people running them like that.

I was running it with a LT SPR-E scope mount and ACS stock, but after getting another LMT lower I decided to put the PRS on the Knight's lower and use this upper with the D-760 GenIII scope as well.
Sort of a dedicated day/night rifle, with both sets of optics on LT mounts.

Very nice, Bowser!
I've never seen that Vltor hand guard/rail combo on a middy before... I like it!
I would personally never get one for myself, as I'm partial to straight up quad rails, but it looks like a great option for those that want the best of both worlds.
And it looks really good to boot!:)
BTW, do you already have the Comp M4, or are you buying one soon?
Semper Fi,

Thanks a lot man. I wanted to try out a rail system that was different than most but still free floating. I'm a huge fan of Mk18's and I saw a Mk18 EOD version with a CASV-EL so that kinda influenced me too. I have a CompM4 set aside for me, but I am sort of leaning towards a CompM3 since they last both last for years on end and both are 2MOA.

Fantastic blaster! I run the CASV-EL so I'm partial to it. Feels smooth and fills my hands perfectly.

This is my 2nd Ar but had to sell my frist one to pay bills but picked this one up and decided to make it my own. I changed out the pistol grip to a Magpul moe grip, changed out the standard trigger guard to a magpul's trigger guard. Changed out the hand guards and changed out the standard bird cage to a Yankee Hill Phantom Comp/Brake. Also added a Mako magwell grip. I also have a 37mm flare launcher that i put on before i decided to change every thing but im thinking of selling or trading it due to i can not attach it with the rail system installed. Semper Fi

My first AR. Just got the T-1 this week using eBay cashback. Couldn't resist the deal, otherwise I wouldve spent that money learning the irons better (currently shooting ~5" at 100 yards with walmart ammo). The lower was originally going to be registered for an SBR so I got it engraved and bought KNS pins for it.

Pretty much an improved M&P MOE minus the buis.
DD bcg
Black Hole Weaponry 14.5" SS mid weight barrel
One off gas block and brake
Timberwolf Tactical SS lpk
CTR butt stock
Vltor mil spec receiver extension
CMMG upper
AGP lower
Hogue grip
Moe front grip
All components made in USA
Then there's the crappy ncstar scope which is temporary till I decide what I really want to put on it.
It's a brush gun, but I want at least 3x power due to the 200yd shots I've taken where I hunt.

This is a great looking build.
Would you please supply a part list for it.
Thanks.
Here is the list from earlier in the thread.
It's a WOA upper receiver, Douglas SPR barrel, with DD M4 13.5 rail, OPS 12th brake, collar & suppressor, LMT M16 BCG, LaRue Tactical low profile gas block clearanced for the OPS collar, NSX 3.5-15X50 in LT 2 piece rings, KAC 300M rear and Troy flip front sights, all on a KAC ambi lower with 2-stage KAC trigger and Magpul PRS stock, MOE grip.

Even though I have been in the military almost ten years. The AR-15 never really appealed to me, until now. Here is my current set up. An "out of the box" example of a S&W M&P15 MOE. So far with about 300 rounds through it, it has been flawless.

Dont know if I'm gonna keep it like this or go for a normal surface... but looks pretty cool!

Finally got around to taking a few semi decent pics of my rifle.
Specs:
~Noveske 16inch mid length low pro complete upper
~Noveske blem lower during promotion
~Daniel Defense LPK (should have gone with G&R b/c I replaced the A2 grip anyway)
~BCM Gunfighter Charging handle, large
~FDE UBR,MOE grip, Pmags, XT and XTM rail covers
~Black Tango Down stubby QD vertical grip
~Daniel Defense fixed front sight
~Tactical Link single point bungee sling
~Already have a comp ML3, now waiting on Larue 129 mount
~Not pictured: 1k Federal M193
After my first trip to the range I bought the XT panels (started with XTM only) due to how slippery the XTM's get when they get rained on for 2 hours. I also shot a guys rifle who had the stubby grip and liked it so I picked one up. As for the front sight I just feel a little better with a fixed unit, couple less moving parts to break.
Nothing else will get bought for it until I get through the ammo I have and hopefully get to a class.
