Very nice, very, very nice.
Been a while since I got a new AR so I wanted to post it, but my sister has my DSLR in another state... so point and shoot go!

This will probably end up next to my bed once I get it squared away and some more range time with it. And the WWJBD patch makes me laugh. :D

I've always been interested in the ATACS dip - did you get an upper dipped as well?

I have one with an Eotech XPS 2.0 and a 3x Magnifier. Great set-up but not cheap.
I like this thread so I thought I would post up a pic or 2.

I had it done to an old Noveske N4 lower I had laying around. I mainly had it done because I wanted to get a feel for a water transfer on an AR..now that the lower is finished, I may get an upper done in the future (along with the MIAD and CTR).
Most likely a bolt action will get water transfer next.

My addition is pretty severely lacking by comparison . . . but figured I'd post a pic. I'm a total AR noob and not much experience with guns. Have always been interested though and with the incredible help of the folks here I bought my first AR last year (DDM4).
Lots to be done with it . . . but I did do my first "upgrade" the other week when I put on the Magpul MOE handguard. Next up will be a sling and I'll probably start looking at optics after that. Just trying to learn to shoot with it and go from there.
Also snuck in my only other firearm . . . Browning .40 Hi-Power. Have had that for awhile and really have liked it.

How did you cut the foam in the case? Tools? Methods?
How did you cut the foam in the case? Tools? Methods?
Actually . . . the case came basically like that with the cutouts for the rifle and the other slots already there. The M4 fit like a glove as-is. I had to trim just a bit around the mag slots to get them to fit a little better (the spots in the case were a touch short and skinny). Just did that with a razor blade.
I'll have to look up the brand and post it. I was looking for a shorter case than the one that came with the weapon originally to make it easier to pack with out other stuff when we go to the mountains. This one was on sale and looked like it would work well--and it turned out to be better than I expected.

Cutout cases are nice....I am too lazy to pluck....I did have to slightly trim for the ranger plates...

This was the Pelican SOPMOD by Gun Cuzer (http://www.casesbypelican.com/m4sopmod.htm)......If I wanted to wait and extra month, I would have had them cut for the Glock but they only had templates for the M9 which I though was odd.
Finally got around to getting a T-1. Been going back and forth for the past year trying to decide what "optic" to go with. Shot some Eotech's, a few ACOG's, and an H-1. Really liked the Aimpoint and after the deal I got on this guy I went with it. Pretty sure this AR is done, minus a light maybe. Pretty basic set up. Need to zero the T-1 still.
BCM BFH 16" Mid upper w/BCM BCG
BCM Mod 4 CH
Sionics complete lower with MOE stuff
MOE handguard with MVG
IWC QD sling mount
Noveske QD end plate
Gen II rear MBUS
BAD Lever
Aimpoint T-1 on the Aimpoint LRP with high spacer(lower 1/3 co-witness)

Interesting. I have seen that at different places on the interwebs. I kinda wish I could just take it somewhere around here and have someone cut it. But I can't find anyone around here and I'm too lazy to draw it out in autocad or send my items to some place out of state. I'm just gonna have to buckle down and get it done.

Last night one of my NCOs came over and replaced my carry handle receiver with the flat-top and installed the GG&G front sight/gas block. It's a DPMS upper with floating rails, the barrel is "HBAR" size up to the gas block, it's very well made with the rail having two inches of thread at the barrel nut and fully chromed BCG. The bi-pod will probably move to the bayonet lug and I'm not sold on the extended bolt release yet. I used perforated kitchen cabinet liner to create the pattern with tan paint over OD.

Why put a fore grip on a long range rifle like that?
Why put a fore grip on a long range rifle like that?
Its actually set up for both long range and CQ. Those were just pics with the scope mounted. It usually sits with just the flip up sights on it. That is until I get a good optic. I think I have my heart set on an Eotech now.

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e130/toddgriffin00/006-5.jpg
This is my first AR build and several things will be changed when more money is in the wallet. lol But for now it will consist of,
Seekins ambi lower,
PSA LPK, with KNS anti-rotation kit, (will be getting better trigger)
PSA upper(will be gettin Seekins) with Wilson .223 SS 16" mid barrel,
Billet charging handle,
Magpul MOE grip and MOE stock, OD green,
Troy drop in 9" rail,
Ergo ladder covers, OD green.
Magpul MBUS rear sight,
Tactical link Z360 sling mount and single point sling,(also have Magpul MS2 sling),
NCStar 2.5-7x42 mil-dot illuminated(red/green) scope(for now but its was free and holds zero with clear glass)
and Im sure theres a couple things Im forgetting but you get the idea. The rest of the parts(upper) will be here tuesday so Ill post some pics then. Let me know what yall think.
How did you arrive at this list of parts? What do you intend to do with the completed rifle when you have it? What is your level of experience and prior training with the AR family of weapons?
I have had/shot several off the shelf ARs and I wanted something I built. It will be used precision shoot(to 300yrds or so) IDPA 3 gun and of course for the Zombie apocalypse! lol Ben with AR15news did help with some ideas for the build and reading here and other sites I came up with what I wanted now and know some things that will be changed as more money comes available.
Magpul MOE grip and MOE stock
Ergo ladder covers, OD green.
These are the only parts I would use, and I wouldn't even use the MOE parts for your stated purpose.
Like I said this is to get me on the range, there will be changes to make it better. I also figure considering everyone and their mother uses Spikes and since Seekins makes Spikes billet lowers I was doing good with that choice. I wanted something more unique then everyone has.
See my thoughts below. It silly to start with xxx and then spend more to improve it when you can do it right from the start.
This is my first AR build and several things will be changed when more money is in the wallet. lol But for now it will consist of,
Seekins ambi lower,
PSA LPK, with KNS anti-rotation kit, (will be getting better trigger)KNS crap is unnecessary and a waste of money.
PSA upper(will be gettin Seekins) with Wilson .223 SS 16" mid barrel,
Billet charging handle. What drove you to PSA? There are better options. i can think of other barrels as well. Also get a BCM Gunfighter.
Magpul MOE grip and MOE stock, OD green,
Troy drop in 9" rail,
Ergo ladder covers, OD green.
Magpul MBUS rear sight,
Tactical link Z360 sling mount and single point sling,(also have Magpul MS2 sling),
NCStar 2.5-7x42 mil-dot illuminated(red/green) scope(for now but its was free and holds zero with clear glass) Don't buy garbage scopes. Get some real glass or a good red dot.
and Im sure theres a couple things Im forgetting but you get the idea. The rest of the parts(upper) will be here tuesday so Ill post some pics then. Let me know what yall think.
It will be getting a matching Seekins billet upper receiver, and the KNS I got for free from a buddy that ordered 2 by mistake. As far as the barrel, the SS is the better choice for accuracy and the optic I got for free as well, but when I do get better it will be magnified considering the will be shooting more then 100yrds.
But Im very sorry for posting this since the more I read this site seems to be all about Colt and prebuilt ARs where I tried to think outside the box and build something from scratch that would do exactly what I want for the budget I had.

These two things have nothing to do with each other.
and if the part in blue is your stated goal, you did not lay out a plan that would be successful in this regard.

Lighten up Francis. And thats putting it as nice as I possibly can.
Your build is not a precision build. What is your budget? I assume it is low, and thats ok. If you are shooting "precision" at 300yds, a standard carbine configuration will probably outshoot you. Why not get something proven instead of buying a bunch of crap and slapping it together? Why not save up a bit more and buy something that could actually benefit you?
Notice how I didnt name a brand? Sheesh.
Since when is Seekins, PSA and Magpul junk?? Its funny this is the ONLY AR forum that claims the stuff I bought is "junk". But once the PSA upper receiver is replaced with the Seekins billet the PSA will get a 300 blackout barrel, and new BCG.

Please leave the melodramatic stuff at home. You might have considered telling us that certain choices were made based on the fact that they were given to you.
FYI- I don't own a Colt and my AR's have all been built from scratch with components I selected. Selection was based upon overall quality and reputation with the goal of it being reliable. Thus far, I have been pretty successful with that recipe.

Cool shadowing pattern. What did you use, a piece of expanded metal mesh?
~Dan
It's not my rifle but it's done by laying a mesh laundry bag on the rifle then painting it tan brown and greens. At least that's how I've always done mine like that. Expanded metal would work I guess but it'd be a pain in the ass.

Did a trade deal and took a chance on a NIB Sig 516 Patrol Basic. Needs furniture upgrade and an optic. Sig wants $299 plus $28 S&H to put a factory quad rail on it!

Yeah, he used a laundry bag. The rifle looks awesome in person. I've seen a lot of paint jobs, but hi is pretty slick. I have about 9 cans of Aervoe and Krylon coming Ordered Krylon then decided on Aervoe) to do something similar. I'm sure mine will end up completely different than I want though.

DSArms upper, Palmetto stripper lower, Palmetto MOE LPK. Still need to get a BCG. I'm going to get magpul MOE handguards and vert grip to go on it and save up for an aimpoint POR.
This was a fun build and I learned one valuable lesson: Don't buy from del-ton because their service sucks ass.
PSA stripped lowers are only $80 so I ordered two so I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to build the second one. I really like the dissapator look but I know I'll end up wanting a collapsible stock and quad-rail on it eventually.
Here is my brother's CMMG from kit that we built 3.5 years ago before my boy was born. My son's is nearly identical except has a YHM LW rail.

It looks like you did a good job of buying quality items (for the most part.) may I ask why you went with Spikes though? G&R has a great lpk and I would stick an h buffer in it. Other than that, you did very well.

There's nothing wrong with spikes lpk's, I've seen some of the NiB trigger groups that were in rough shape but not mine!;) there are a few quality lpk's out there of different manufacturers that aren't pieced together, so why wouldn't he go with a quality OEM kit?

Well although its a bunch of "crap" thrown together I think it came out pretty damn good and so far does exactly what I want it to do. I took it out thursday to test everything and break in the barrel. The bottom pic was the first 10 rounds after the barrel breakin, the 2 shots low right were from break in shooting and we shot at 75 yards.

Tried my hand at painting today. Used the Pat Rogers method for the most part. Paints were Aervoe Sand, Highland Brown, Dark Green, with OD Green as a final blend. Used camo netting as a mask. I will echo what I heard other places, that first swipe takes guts, but after that it's completely satisfying since I've been wanting to add color for a long time.

Great job EMT!!
How long did it take to dry or did you use a hair dryer etc.
Thanks. I would say from first coat to leaving it up to sit in the sun to dry after the final misting, maybe a little over an hour. It was mid-60's here today, so I think that it is taking a bit longer to dry than normal...3 hours later some of the rail panels are still a bit tacky and the paint on the metal can be abraded with a fingernail. I was tempted to hit it with a hair dryer, but I think I'll just let it do its thing.

Just bought my first AR and first rifle since I was a teen. Not as fancy as all of the rifles in this thread but after one week, two range trips and a little over 1000 rounds I've decided I'll be building in the not so distant future. SW M/P15 Sport with a Midway quad rail, Magpul vertical grip and as of last night (not pictured) a mounted Streamlight. Between my Scotch collection and what appears to be a new found obsession with AR's, I better keep the wife happy:D

From Merriam Webster; Definition of CARBINE (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/carbine)
1: a short-barreled lightweight firearm originally used by cavalry
2: a light short-barreled repeating rifle that is used as a supplementary military arm or for hunting in dense brush
I think your rifle is once again truly a carbine!

What's your thoughts on the Gear Sector mounts? I'm thinking about getting one for my M600 and the rail mount qd socket as well.

Thanks as always. The Troy rail finally came off for a lighter alternative thanks to mjkeat. The Samson's definitely a better alternative.

I can finally post a picture in here. So here it is. This is my first Ar-15 and my first ever build. Ill get better pictures with a better camera later but I just could not wait. 14.5" Bcm light weight upper, BCG and Gunfighter charging handle (mod 4). Magpul MOE pistol grip, trigger guard, Pmag 30, and foregrip. DD A1.5 BUIS. Lrb arms stripped lower with stag arms lower parts kit. Vltor mod stock with BCM buffer tube and H buffer. Noveske qd backplate and IWG micro flush mount qd. I am pretty sure that is eveything for now. Optics, sling, white light and a travel case coming soon. Thanks for looking and any comments are welcome :)

This rifle is intended for close-ish coyote and varmint hunting and a match or two a year. I will be mounting a VXIII 4.5x14 LR for accuracy testing so a range report should be along soon.

It took me a year to get all the parts together but at this point I am glad I didn't go all cheap ass just to be done a month or two sooner. I would like to thank fellow M4carbine member Dutchy556 for stearing me clear of the rock river I was looking at a year ago. That and the search button.
Very nice! Why go with a BCM barrel and DD BCG, why not a BCM BCG?

The day I dumped out my BCG change jar the BCM was out of stock so I went DD, I still want a BCM just for the fun of having it match and keep the DD for a back up. But really as long as it shoots every time I won't be in a hurry to swap BCG's.
Congrats! You're sure to lower the yote population with that!

Thanks, thought there might have been a technical reason.
Nice build. DD BCG vs. BCG - a toss-up IMHO. Wouldn't mind having either one.
That's a solid build, congrats. Show some groups when you take it out.

Want to add soon : Aimpoint 3xMag & Samson Quick Flip, front flip cap for M4S, Surefire X300 & XT07 Tapeswitch, Magpul MS2 Sling.

Nice sticks.
I had the same AR here in MA, it has changed so much that now the only thing left S&W is the lower. Great AR a couple of suggestions to improve it would be to add a H2 buffer and sprinco blue spring to solve the over gassing. I also had to get rid of the barrel and just add one with a pinned comp...

First post here, been working on ARs for a bit, love the platform. Love it.
Here are some pics of my most recent build. It is not complete, as I am finishing up its permenant lower home this weekend. Ill post a pick of the complete rifle this weekend probably. After the lower Is complete, all it will need to be finished is a good flash hider, or I may stick with the birdcage.
Specs: (some of them)
Upper:
Spikes 16" midlength Upper (started life With its A2 FSB)
Spikes BCG
Little custom ejection port cover
Core 15 billet charging handle
- like a CH with a bigger backside as I put my nose right up on it.
Midwest Insutries T series 15" handguard
- its ALOT of 'rail estate' for sure, but I wanted to be able to run it up to the front of the rifle. I'm not little, and like to be able to get my hands out pretty far down the rifle when shooting. The t series was a nice fit, very lightweight, and well machined. Required knocking the FSB off and of course fitting a lo-pro gas block.
Sights:
- Matech BUIS
- front sight will be a Troy spiked marked flip up
Lower:
Spikes Pirate lower (year me matey)
Magpul MoE rubber grip
Daniel Defense LPK
KNS pins
Tactical Intent TI-7
- my favorite stock EVER.... Even thought magpul ripped it off :fie:

Ghetto as hell, but it's my rifle not yours :dirol: I like to be able To change up grips, and messing around for the last couple years I like the AFG and a VFG so I figured, why not the best of both worlds.

Yes sir... A Rainier Arms custom build. DD 14.5" LW with a BC 1.5, Rainier Arms lower, Troy TRX Extreme 13"
Originally looked like this :
http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/4091/dscn2205u.jpg
After a good amount of shooting I decided to move the rail back a little bit as I don't have super long arms. Since then, I've been playing with using this Troy vertical grip and the IWC hand stop. Both are good IMO.
Also, decided it needed a new look and this is what I'm working with now.

Like the setup! Quick question where did you go to get the dustcover engraved??
I would like to get my initials engraved on the inside. This is for a couple of reasons. 1) I like the aesthetics of it 2) if someone (read gang banger) snatches the gun they will most likely have no clue how to remove and or replace the dust cover, or might not even think to look on the inside. I know the lower has a serial number and this is no where near a perfect solution but it would provide a little bit of comfort knowing that there is a marking on the upper that could be traced. Obviously anyone with a decent pea sized brain could figure a way around this, but let's be real not everyone in the world is as smart as the people on this forum ;)
recently got one of those german pmag clone to try out and a new ejection port cover [:D]
also moved the KAC600 to the M16A4gery and put a KAC300

Tried out the BCMJunkie mod and I'm lovin' it..OD MOE w/ Franklin street hockey stick tape. I liked the grippy rubber of the Ergo grip, but the MOE feels so much better in my hand. The hockey stick tape is perfect, whoever first thought to put it on a plastic grip is a genius.

Alright so I finally finished my build. Got the Aimpoint PRO and CTR stock on there today. Now I just can't wait to leave this ****ing state in a few months. 2 years in California feels like an eternity. lol

Ive been using it on my pistols for years. Also works as band-aids.
I use it on my fingers every day.
