I needed to take some photos of a buddy's rifle he is selling in the near future and decided to give it a St. Paddy's Day theme:p

This is my first AR. Initially I looked at buying something that was "plenty good enough". Fortunately I took some good advice from a knowledgeable friend early on, and used the orange button up top quite a bit - in the end, instead of buying something cheap, I put together a quality rifle.
I received the upper this week, and took it out yesterday and put 10 magazines through it. Really happy with how it performed, but of course at this point it's more about me getting used to it. Haven't shot one since I ETS'd twelve years ago.
I haven't found my optimal front grip setup - I shot it yesterday with the RVG further forward but it didn't feel right - but that part is an evolution.
Eventually, I'll add an optic and that's probably about it.

What does LWRC stand for? Do we know?

What does LWRC stand for? Do we know?
It does not stand for anything. Its simply just LWRC International. Explanation:
1. originally was Leitner Wise Rifle Company
2. Then new ownership and became LWRC - land Warfare resources Corp.
3. New ownership in 2008 - Doesnt mean anything, but keeping with tradition and brand awareness, the LWRC initials, but not the meaning. Just LWRC International.
Heartbreaker

Still need to hydrodip the stock but I ran out of basecoat. Other than that it's done minus an optic (but you know how that goes, I've probably thought it was done for the last 5 iterations of the build). Made a how to vid when I assembled the upper - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3Dugu28EVE

After the Leitther and Wise split, I was under the impression that lwrc stood for land warfare rifle company. Obviously I'm not a hundred percent on this as I think I read it on one of those evil gun rags. So definitely don't take this as fact.

It went through 4 owners it does not stand for anything at all now except LWRC.

I've got no idea on any info, I'm just having fun playing around with the NSR URG. It will get blaster status tomorrow.
Todd should be able to give update info, he is obviously dialed in much better than I am regarding time tables and Noveske info. I will say the more I handle this rail, the more and more I like it.

Honestly I couldn't give you a straight answer, since I haven't used a 14.5" PredatAR, as mine is a 16".
I do know that I prefer the 14.5" with a URX III much more than a URX III with a 16" barrel.

Why SIR, CAA, Enidine, Jard, Badger when there are better options available? If you're happy with it, that's all that matters.
I get the others, but whats wrong with the Enidine, and badger? what would you suggest?
Keep the pictures rolling
Did you install the rail yourself? I watched the videos it looks simple. I have one in the mail for a friends weapond but I have never installed one.
Not my rifle but I just finished my brother's room mates build and we used the Rainier Evo rail that is made by Samson. For us it was a little tricky getting the heat sinks to fit just right on the bbl nut but that was due to me not getting them placed just right. Once the heat sinks were on throw the rail on and tighten it down.
I know the Rainier Profile to me is a little more appealing but damn good quality. I definitely plan on using it for my next build.

Mountain Hardwear vented shirt, works great for when wearing armor or just in a class, take the armor off and you don't look tacticooled out.
This AR-15/M16A2 is less than 7 months old. It was converted from full auto to burst and selector markings were scratched into the sides. See what's wrong with the right side markings?

Yep! I'll be honest, I looked at the right side and I was like... something is wrong with this... but I can't figure out what. It took me a few minutes before I figured it out.
Let me guess, DEPT Armorer with a $15 electric engraver?
I actually don't know who did it or how, never asked.
Looks like it was thrown down a driveway.
It was actually one of the better looking M16s we had. Some looked like they were rubbed in asphalt. But we used these in HMMWVs and did lots of small unit tactics and crap. They got thrown around a lot.

Or how bout who cares about what it looks and shoot the shit out of it instead of shooting pictures of it. IMO if you like it, dont change it. Moe hand guards do the job fine. Unless your trying to keep up with the latest and greatest

Tyler, I don't know what your hard-on is for making veiled digs at me, especially at my photography, or for something I have never even said I guess, but seriously it's time to put on your big boy pants and let it go.
That said the upper looks good.
Im not trying to bust balls. Just you got the cool cans right now.
I dig most your guns. The predatAR is pretty slick looking with your setup. Not a fan of laurue But I will admit, its a slick gun. I also like your dissapator with the rifle length moe hand guards. Very slick as well. I stalk these forums ALOT....

Okay now we hug it out, bitch! :D
Well the QDSS is built like a brick shithouse, it's heavy, but it works. In retrospect I'd have gone with the SF 212A, but all are very good cans. You'll enjoy your purchase.

Hahaha, Its all good. I got the KAC can cause Dennis Todd had one at the local gun show. Its pricey, and heavy but I will have fun with it. Only thing I scare around my property is crows anyways.....

Just a new AR, nothing really important.
Built this for my wife. BCM 16" mid-length with Magpul furniture and Aimpoint T1 on a LaRue mount. Weighs in at 6.9lbs unloaded.
Zeroed it this afternoon. It just ran and ran...
Build details:
BCM upper and BGC, standard carbine buffer.
LaRue rear BUIS and T1 high mount.
Magpul forearm, pistol grip, and CTR.
AAC Blackout flash hider.

Hey all... First build in the AR world for me and probably the last unless I build a DMR or something along those lines but that's a whole additional story and I don't think will happen. A little background on myself... Not new to the AR world, I am former AD and now Reserve with the USAF. I won't lie I am not a ""jump out of a plane shoot a "m-fer" in the head"" but do use rifles on a daily basis well now monthly basis. Decided to build a "one and only" AR and tried not to spare any expense. Basically the only purpose I don't intend on using with this rifle is hunting, with the main purpose being a solid well built rifle that can take the demand of multiple classes I plan on attending.
Lower
- Spikes forged stripped lower... Now I know I might get some flake on this but when I was doing my research which was a lot I really couldn't find anything negative on the products themselves and most of the negative comments from my research steamed from bad business practice but I could be wrong. And I won't lie I spent way to much on the lower which I don't want to disclose because I would feel like an idiot. The main reason behind the Spikes and not say BCM is honestly the pirate I like it, and from my research a lower is a lower...
- Magpul MAID... looks good and has multiple configurations for different hands. In my opinion can't go wrong.
- DD LPK... Just wanted a good mil spec LPK with a good crisp trigger pull. Didn't want any staged triggers because I wanted to dublicate my rifle in the service.
- Vltor buffer tube... again wanted a good mil spec tube
- BCM carbine buffer spring and Spike T2 buffer... can't go wrong with BCM and again I know Spikes but don't worry I also got a BCM H buffer to go along just in case. It was 50/50 on what I read people saying about the T2. Either they hated it or loved it, and I had the money so I didn't mind trying it out. Report on rifle mechanics at the bottom of the page.
- Magpul CTR... I hate heavy rifles and don't plan on carrying extra batteries and additional gadgets so the CTR fit my bill. Made sure I got the locking one and like it so far. HATE WOBBLING!!!
Upper
- BCM standard 14.5 pinned mid length with DD 9" Lite rail... I for sure wanted a FSP and all reviews and positive commits came from 14.5 mid length carbines. My round count won't be that significant with only a class or two a year and just letting the friends plink so I was okay with the standard barrel. Again you can't go wrong with BCM and I don't have the tools or experience to complete my own upper.
- BCM BCG... Once again can't go wrong. Staking reviews were all positive and figured BCM BCG with a BCM upper would mate well with no forseeable problems.
- Troy Battle BUIS... Read good reviews and wanted my BUIS to hold zero so Magpul was out. Has the circle aperture because I can't see crap out of the diamond.
- Magpul ASAP... I used a one point in the service and still do so that was my plan even though a lot of people's opinions are against it. Got the ASAP for that even though I am having a hard time staking it
- Surefire Millennium 900 series light... Hate it! Well I shouldn't say that it gives out an awesome amount of light which doesn't dispurse at distances so it's great there. Just to heavy/big for me. Will be selling it and getting a scout light soon.

Mechanics
Haven't officially zeroed the rifle yet. Just took it to the local indoor range to check function. Worked flawessly on single shot and mag dumps. No malfunctions. Was defiantely worried about the Spikes buffer but works perfect with M855 ammo and PMAGS. Bolt locks back great. Obviously still have the H buffer just in case. DD LPK is awesome... Great crisp trigger but I was expecting that. I will post up the range reports when I go to the 200 yard range soon. Will be sighting in 50/200. Optic hasn't been a big concern yet because I like irons a lot and want to train more with them but will be going with a EoTech HWS for sure since that is what I use in the service.

I agree. It's also nice that they tend to be less expensive than most other options too.

I work with a guy who is the typical gun owner you find here in the South: He has a safe full of Browning hunting rifles. He wants an AR because it looks cool and he fancies himself a ninja militia zombie killer. That said, he has asked me for input on things here and there. He's a super nice guy, and he's our machinist, so he helps me with some things I need as well.
He bought a camo-dipped M&P in 300BLK and asked my opinion about a scope for it. For hunting the thick GA woods and general recreational use, while maintaining some tactical appeal, I thought that a 1-4 would fit his GP needs pretty well. He "already spent a thousand bucks on the gun" and didn't "want to spend that much on a scope" so I recommended he check out Primary Arms as I figured it would be better than the cheap NC Star and Barska crap he could find locally. I have owned one of the PA micro dots and was pleased with its performance. The scope came in yesterday. With the PA mount he paid $139.98 before shipping. He asked me to take it home and mount it for him.
I started by inspecting some components of the rifle.
The Bolt Carrier, semi-auto, but properly staked key screws and an MPI bolt:

http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab104/ASH556/20120328_212833.jpg
The castle nut staking looks a little shallow, crooked, and like it was done with a screw driver:
http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab104/ASH556/20120328_212637.jpg
Barrel markings:
http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab104/ASH556/20120328_212109.jpg
Chamber/barrel extensions (don't appear to be M4):
http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab104/ASH556/20120328_213013.jpg
This is how the scope and mount came packaged:
http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab104/ASH556/20120328_211249.jpg
The reticle in the scope is similar to a German reticle with the three thick bars on the left, right, and bottom. Thinner crosshairs substend into the center and all the way to the top. The center is a very bright flash-dot type illumination. The 1X obviously is not, as seen here by the ruler test, but it picks up pretty quickly and there's not much distortion at the edges. Overall the glass is pretty clear, though the coatings dim it a bit.
http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab104/ASH556/20120328_211747.jpg
The scope has a 30mm maintube with a 3-turret setup consisting of: Illumination on the left, Elevation on top, and windage on the right. Illumination is 1-12 (I think) with positive clicks in between. There is no off-stop, so you have to look to make sure you're at zero to turn off illumination. However, this also means you can go backwards to 9 or 10 instead of going all the way around the other way. The windage and elevation turrets are pretty cheap feeling. Clicks are not very positive, though they are there. The way you "slip your cams" to read zero is by turning the disc that sits on top of the turret. It can be done with your fingernail, so not how secure it might stay once you set it. The turrets are capped. For a zero and leave application you're probably ok, but I wouldn't want to be dialing with those turrets all day. I'm also not sure what the click increments are supposed to be.
http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab104/ASH556/20120328_211906.jpg
http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab104/ASH556/20120328_214833.jpg
http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab104/ASH556/20120328_214858.jpg
The mount is $20, and seems pretty decent for the price. The screws turn easily and the finish seems to be ok. Included are 1" reducers, though the mount itself is 30mm. It's no Larue/ADM/Bobro, but should work ok for a static, light use application:
http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab104/ASH556/20120328_212016.jpg
I leveled up the rifle in the vise, and then leveled the scope. I tightened it down and then bore sighted it. One thing I did notice is that this mount is pretty high:
http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab104/ASH556/20120328_214246.jpg
Here's my buddy's two rifles (300BLK and M&P Sport 556) with his Drago case. Again, most folks around here would be tickled pink and feel like Rambo with this setup. It's funny how much people don't know what they don't know, although, when I gave him his rifle back, my buddy did comment that he realized he had "just a sporting-type setup." Maybe he's starting to trade dilusions for reality.

Only 110 rounds so far and its been great. My buddies and I have 500 rounds for this coming Saturday to put it through its paces.
This has been a great experience so far being my first AR purchase. I plan on doing more builds in the future and they will be PSA.
I purchased every component for this rifle throught PSA except the Pmags, and they shipped everything in a timely fashion.
Now what configuration will be next........ That is the question....

I went to the range with a buddy last week who had a PWS comp on his gun. The over pressure you felt when you set the gun off was a bit annoying to me. It felt a bit like shooting CAR method with a pistol or any other method of close-to-the-body pistol work. I was wondering if it was the same with all brakes? Does the SF brake produce the same result?

Surefire break is an awesome break for keeping muzzle rise down. As far as noise and concussion, it is terrible. I couldn't stand next to someone with a 16" and the SF break because the fillings in my teeth started to hurt after about 50 rounds.

Nice rifle, mine will look like that very soon.
Is that your lady BCmJUnKie? If so, well done sir. From what is showing, she is a looker.

Wormy, what kind of suppressor are you using for the .22? Is that a dedicated upper? .22 suppressor is definitely my next purchase.

Nordic Components NC22 upper
AAC Element suppressor
The Nordic has been way more reliable than the CMMG or Spike's conversion kits I have previously owned. Highly recommend the NC22. (finding them in stock is a trick however)
