Awesome rig.
Is that a DD RisII and 16" barrel?
Since I can't sell my BCM BFH barrel, I think I'll just buy a RisII rail and shoot it.

You would be correct, thanks.
While its by far not the lightest set-up, it's still my favorite.

Weight won't be an issue. I'll have a Trijicon TR24G and AAC SPR/M4 can on it, and gov't profile barrel. It'll be a hog but I'll have a 10.5" (or 12.5" if I can ever make up my mind) upper with the MK18 Ris II for the light work, when it gets approved in another, oh 3 months or so.
Anyways, thanks for that pic as it made up my mind on the 12" Ris II.

That looks great maddy! Only thing I would add would be a Larue handstop. GTG.
I would push that light out a little farther too, to cut out as much shade from the barrel as possible, but that's just me. Looks great either way, very nice rifle.
Nice looking rifle. Now get to a few classes and shoot the shit out of it.

Yeah its just hard going from a mini ACOG to a battery powered Eotech. I really bought it for my SBR I'm gathering parts for, but it'll stay on this one until the stamp gets here and then I get the 10.5" barrel.

I already know I'll get flamed for my "optic" but I'm glad I bought a cheap one before an eotech/aimpoint. I found out I can't use a red dot because of my Astigmatism. It makes it oval and all grainy :/ so now im looking for something different.

Started gathering parts for my SBR. I'm about 1.5 months out from being approved, went ahead and bought a pistol lower and ordered the 10.3" DD barrel. Just trying it on the SBR'd lower to see how it looks. Of coarse there's no barrel so its all legal begal.

I have that setup on my other upper, and might be exactly what I do. The light was really just stuck there for the pic. I might pickup an INforce WML and put it on the left side. Also might get a handstop or chop a magpul RVG. This is my first short barrel upper and I am pumped with all the options.
My SPR/M4 can obviously won't work with a 10.3" barrel, but I paid for a 762 SDN6, whenever my guy gets them in I'll send off for that stamp. Maybe someday get a M4-2k or mini for this 10.3" upper. The BC 2.0 might not make it on this rifle, probably just an A2 until I can find the right 51T brake for the can. They're hard to come by nowdays.
I had to put the AAC M4 on it to see how it looks.
I should have the new Trijicon in the first of the week...

member...truly outstanding sir! your Recce w/ new glass is a perfect LP AR specimen imho. As much as I like that rifle of yours, your steel setup got the keyboard drooled on a bit. Great rigging, it appears that method will generate a lot of free movement....aka..."dings". Hard to tell on the sizes of them?
Ringing LR steel w/ ARs will ruin you though to some degree...just too much fun:)

The rig actually belongs to my buddy and it does “dong” pretty well over the valley. With the right reticle and a bit more magnification, a full size IPSC target is now really easy at 600. The smaller one is a 45% IPSC and is a bit more challenging. The plate on the right is 6” in diameter and is quite difficult in a windy condition. Buddy’s 6.5-284 will really spin that plate!

Love this gun, can't get enough. When I get around to my next build this will be my template. The only thing I plan to change is the rail, it will be the VTAC version with a IWC mount-n-slot handstop. Just a mini version of my 14.5 basically. Though I'm really liking the Troy version too.

Thanks buddy!! Im glad my Carbine can inspire you.
It runs SO amazing. I find myself training ONLY with this rifle nowadays.
It took me a really long time to figure out this setup. Lots of shooting and it stayed EXACTLY the same from the idea to paper to completion.
For the record, I used to run a Comp series Aimpoint, a M2 and it works great.

I'll be switching to the H1 in the Larue tall mount soon, I've also been eyeing the Vortex Viper PST 1-4 w/ Vortex Razor red dot at 1:30 though. I'll probably go with the H1 to save a few bucks though.
It sure looks like it runs well in your videos, of course it is a BCM though, wouldn't expect any less.

member...truly outstanding sir! your Recce w/ new glass is a perfect LP AR specimen imho.

Don't worry. I wouldn't be surprised if the strikefire ends up on an m&p15-22 at some point.

I couldn't think of a better application for the Strikefire. Not saying it's not good enough for an AR. I've thought seriously about picking one up for my M&P 15-22.

How do the AAC 51T Brakeouts perform when the suppressor isn't attached?
They are pretty good for the money, I prefer the comp, but the breakouts are cheaper for rifles I don't use as much. The N6 is great but does get heavy. I'll be investing in a mini soon just for that reason.
Im more interested in the pistol in your avatar, I'll be building one just like it soon.

Jax,

What's up Logan? That backstrap on the gun look familiar?! ;)
Yes it's a Vltor lower. There is nothing special about it but it's a high quality lower obviously from where it comes from and it's a little different than most lowers. The only thing annoying about it is the take down pin detent is not located behind the receiver endplate. It's actually behind the selector switch detent tunnel which makes changing out grips a little more interesting.
It's not like I change out grips every day but I do remove the pistol grip for one reason or another more often than a receiver end plate. So if that's my only gripe then yeh I am happy with it.

Its funny how an interest in guns can quickly turn you into a photography enthusiast as well.
While photography has always interested me, I didn't take a larger interest in it until I really got serious about shooting. Firearms just make GREAT photo subjects..

Same thing with cars... I would get into it more but cameras are fairly complicated and I just have too much going on anyways. One of my good buddies that I shoot with is pretty damn good at it though.

Exactly right GB. I've always had an interest in photography. Especially with photographing wildlife. After getting on the serious side of firearms ownership about 4 years ago I have slowly grown a huge interest in shooting firearms....no pun intended. I was showing my friend's wife some pics of my M&P9 that I took today and she was amazed how pretty a picture could be.....of a gun.
Seeing work from guys like Stickman and BCMJUnKie is definitely a motivator to get into it as well.

I know we're supposed to hate RECOIL magazine now because of the mp7a1 comments but they have some interesting stuff any way. Although I'm sure your not even getting close to BCMJunkies and Stickmans picture quality with a cell phone, I'll take all the help I can get with what I have to work with.

You'd be surprised how much of a "quality" picture is just quality editing. While "photo doctoring", "air brushing", and "photoshopping" used to be derogatory terms, today they've kind of lost that. Photo doctoring went form making a picture into something it was not, to making an already existing picture much better.
Editing can provide the sharpness, color, highlights/shadows, tones, levels, brightness/contrast that will make a picture much more visual appealing and "artistic". To me, Stickman has a way with setup and proper lighting/shadows and sharpness, and is great with macro shots. BCMJunkie is great with using the natural elements, colors, lighting, exposure.
That being said, sure, a DSLR will take better pics than a point-and-shoot, sometimes. But there are some GOOD point-and-shoot cameras out there, taking 12 MP+ pictures. The difference is they usually lack a good depth-of-field and are limited by not allowing different lenses. DOF is an important part of "my" style of photography.

I am very interested in some details on it, whatever it is.

Specs on finish?
Sprayed 2 light coats of Aervoe Coyote, then sprayed 1 very very light coat of Krylon Khaki over it. Took maybe 15 min, 30 if you include masking off some areas I didn't want to spray in like the trigger/hammer pin holes, etc.

There is a LOT more to photography than the camera you use. A good photographer can come out with a better photo using a cheap point and shoot than a soccer mom with her $1K DSLR.
Composition, lighting, exposure, depth of field, etc...and then yes, whatever you want to do to the photo in post processing to give it desired effects.
I highly recomend the book Understanding Exposure for anyone looking to get serious about taking better photos.

Now i can start a 2nd build..im thinking a 10.5" now that illinois legalized SBR's starting 1/1/2013.
What? I didn't know that! Now I gotta go look up the new laws. And to think I just got my AR a couple months ago. I could have waited. Thanks for informing me.
edit: Grip I hope you have read the laws. By my reading, it looks like only reenactment weapons are allowed to be SBRs which in turn does not allow for ARs to be made into them still in this state. You must also be a member of a reenactment group and cannot take the weapon to a range. Unless I am reading the wrong Illinois law but this is the only one I can find.
This isn't the place for this conversation though. Sorry.

You're right this isn't the place, but HB4901 has been amended. All you need is a Curio & Relics license. It goes into law Jan 1, 2013 as noted.

All the thousands of dollars of equipment I have doesn’t make up for the lack of creative juices.
There isn’t much one can do about out of focus photos (not shallow DOF) and camera shake in post processing. A tripod can help.

I paid about $250 for my tripod about 10 years ago. It’s replacement costs over $600 today. I should be able to get another 10 years out of it.

Not bad! Lighting is everything in pictures. You don't want harsh lights like a spot light, you want soft lights like shining a light onto the ceiling/walls and using the reflection as your light source. This is why cloudy days are awesome :D Also, interestingly, putting a black weapon on a darker background generally makes a better picture than putting it on a lighter background due to the limitations of cameras not really being able to see both light and dark things at once. And you want a very stable way of holding the camera, like a tripod on something improvised that doesn't let it move at all.

So bearing in mind that I'd rather spend money on ammo than camera accessories, but also bearing in mind that I just bought my wife a Cannon HD Video Camera for her birthday...What's a good tripod that will work for both the video camera and the SLR?
http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab104/ASH556/IMG_9901.jpg
That gets kind of complicated. The best tripod head for still photography is a good ball head and the video needs a fluid pan and tilt.
Stills I use this Arca Swiss
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sr57E22Eglc
on a Gitzo 1348 carbon fiber mountaineer
if I were to do video on this tripod which is fine for most pro/am video cameras I would get one of these leveling heads and keep it on the tripod for both stills and video
http://www.naturescapes.net/store/gitzo-gs5121lvl-leveling-base.html
and then get a good fluid head like this which I have no experience with
http://www.gitzo.com/fluid-head
I only use Sachtler fluid heads on Sachtler tripods for video and then I step up to all metal for film which is another area all to itself.
For a lightweight pro/am camera I would go Gitzo or Bogen for legs and heads Gitzo leveler and then Arca Swiss, Foba, Really Right Stuff, ball heads.
Remember the rule of thumb is always get a ball head and fluid head designed for "TWICE" the weight you intend to put on it.
Also for video the accuracy and ease of leveling your tripod is VERY important (especially when shooting on the wider aspect ratios.)

Just bought a Lewis Machine & Tool Monolithic Rail Piston rifle. Since I can switch out barrels easily, I figure if the piston hype isn't what everyone thinks it is, I can go back to having a DI gun. I can play around with 6.8mm SPC and .300 Blackout too.

There is more to it than that. What kind of stencil did he use?
One that came that way or one he cut out himself? Most
importantly what kind of paint did he use? or was it a spray?
did he use something to hold the stencil down flat because
pmags are not flat because of the elevations on them. I
am wanting the nitty gritty.

Knew you'd get hazed bad for that! Don't take it too hard. This site is geared towards guys who like practical rifles. We view this as impractical and is just a waste of space and unnecessary weight added.
Unneeded items that can just as easily be carried on your person (and more efficiently deployed) such as a knife are frowned upon. It's viewed as mainly an aesthetic thing by you but not by guys here. You're new here so maintain some thick skin and don't take anything I am saying as condescension towards you.

So I've been putting my parts together for the past year while I've been deployed, finally got back, and got it all together. I've already ran about 200 rounds through it, and it works amazingly.
