This is my first post & first AR.. Everything was assembled by me on a spikes stripped lower and an AO Precision upper. I hope to get out and shoot it next week sometime if the weather cooperates.

Heres the My first AR (kinda)
Sorry for the crappy pictures I only have a phone camera and bad lighting.
Originally I was going to build it and only had the cash to buy the parts for the complete lower but I did not pass the background check because I'm not 21 yet and I could have built it to be a pistol. I could'nt pass the background check until it was a complete rifle.
So unfortunately my noveske lower is coupled with a chiappa .22 upper until I can afford a different upper.
Ben
P.S. I don't know how to embed the picture and so I don't get yelled at it by asking I'm going to just search that right now ;)

I don't know what the hell is going on with B5 lately but the last 2 stocks I've received (new Bravo and SOPMOD) have had some greenish tint to them.

The pad on the stock is clearly the correct color though.
Recently did some updates for the A2 clone...Colt FCG, Colt Charging Handle, Colt A2 Pistol Grip. Built this girl up between the 2008 and 2012/2013 rushes. Originally had put a DPMS LPK in it...trigger was garbage (like almost everything made by DPMS :D) so swapped it for Colt parts.

As she sits now...
Lower:
Yankee Hill Machine Stripped Lower Receiver
DPMS Lower Parts Kit, minus fire control group
Colt Semi-Auto Fire Control Group
Colt A2 Pistol Grip
Rock River Arms A2 Fixed Stock with Buffer Tube, Spring, and Buffer
Upper:
Yankee Hill Machine A2 Upper Receiver
Colt 300/800 Rear Sight Assembly
Bushmaster 1/7 Twist 20" Government Profile Barrel Assembly
Bushmaster A2 Handguards
Daniel Defense M16 Bolt Carrier Group
Colt Charging Handle
I'm trying to get it as close to all Colt parts as I can. I may swap out the Bushmaster handguards soon for Colt handguards as the Bushmaster handguards are cheap feeling and shiny :shifty4:

Is the #4 just as bright and fast to pick up as the triangle? I haven't had the opportunity to look through one with a German #4 reticle except what I have seen online it certainly doesn't look as pronounced as the triangle.

I'll have to get my LGS to unbox one of the #4 reticles to look through next time, but the illuminated area seems like it just couldn't be as quick and easy to grab due to the lack of size...

There are some extremely nice firearms posted, but i must ask... and no I'm not trying to stir a beehive since this is an honest question... but why the need for 4 miles of rail systems and only use 2 inches of them? I do admit it is aesthetically pleasing to look at, though.

Honestly jp my experience with the German #4 is completely academic. I've just been doing a lot of research. As with most things in the AR world I have to buy something to see if I like it. If I don't like it or prefer the BAC I'll just sell it.
That's the great thing about firearms and their accessories. If you are fair in your price it's quite easy to sell it and make up most of your money. Especially during the current political climate.
Like I say I never buy anything. I 'rent' it until decided I like it and keep it or sell it b/c it doesn't work for me.

ETA: If I do decide to keep German #4 & find that it does slow me down up close I do have a T1 I can offset. Decisions decisions.....

Reach and sight radius, as well as real estate for potential, future use.
But mostly reach and sight radius.

But mostly reach and sight radius.
To add to Warp's comment:
It allows for an extended reach for better control of the gun and STILL leaves space for a light, sling mount, front sight, etc. forward of your grip.

When you're actually looking through the optic, like actually shooting at something, you're head isn't as far away from the optic as those pics. Those pics are a poor illustration of what they look like when actually using them. Just like when people try to take pics of an ACOG reticle. It never comes out right, in color or size in relation to what you're aiming at.
No the green dot in the middle of the crosshairs won't be as pronounced as the triangle because the dot is only 1.7 moa (I think, I just pulled that out of my ass to be honest but I think it sounds right.) and the triangle is 24moa (again a random number I pulled out but I think it might be close, on my iPhone so I'm not going to look it up). And it looks to me in that pic that he may have had the sunshade closed because both of my TR24G's and even my TR20's with the mildot with illuminated dots are much brighter than that pic.
I'll have to get my LGS to unbox one of the #4 reticles to look through next time, but the illuminated area seems like it just couldn't be as quick and easy to grab due to the lack of size...
Edit: Those pics look like a perfect illustration. I'm just not seeing it
Unboxing one and holding it won't give you the full potential of the optic. Wish you were closer and you could run mine. The dot being around 1.7moa (see disclaimers above) isn't that much smaller than a 2moa reddot and the crosshairs help my eyes focus to the middle, so there's no searching for the dot or anything.
Honestly jp my experience with the German #4 is completely academic. I've just been doing a lot of research. As with most things in the AR world I have to buy something to see if I like it. If I don't like it or prefer the BAC I'll just sell it.

ETA: If I do decide to keep German #4 & find that it does slow me down up close I do have a T1 I can offset. Decisions decisions.....
As you know the offset T-1 with the tank of an optic TR24 would be heavy. But I know you know that.
One final thing I'll add. If you are shooting from inside a building or vehicle to a target that is outside and its really sunny, the dot will not show up at all. The triangle is the same way. It will be black and still usable though. My preference are again for the crosshairs for this reason. I feel the crosshairs offer you more vs the triangle. I have a 6-8 thousand rounds with the crosshairs from 2-600 yards (the 600 yards were tough shit, not gonna lie) and only 1-2 hundred rounds with the triangle. Maybe more time would help me with the triangle, but I just see no benefits in using it vs the crosshairs. If you all want, watch my YouTube vids of me shooting 3 gun and stuff. You'll see what kind of shots I'm taking with the optic. The later vids are better than the earlier vids but it shows how far I've come with my shooting.
I'm not a Triji rep, I just love them.
I love my tr24g's reticle. I've had optics with the German #4 and prefer the green triangle. Pic thread:

Just got this off the EE last week from boardmember txbonds.
BCM Mid length with DD Omega and Larue BUIS. This thing rocks and the balance is superb. I ordered a carbine receiver extension and B5 stock for giggles. I really like the MOE Rifle stock so that will probably stay on it for while.
Maybe an Eotech or Aimpoint to come or an ACOG might look sweet on it.
Going to sell one of my kids organs to pay for the 5.56 to break it in. :)

Looking sharp! How's the IMod working for you?
Thanks! Ya I like it so far! I kinda wish I would have went with the club foot just for the looks.
Thanks! Ya I like it so far! I kinda wish I would have went with the club foot just for the looks.
It has the most comfortable cheek weld out of the stocks I've tried IMO. I had the club foot but changed my mind about liking the looks before too long. That may have even more of the color though (FDE), I don't know.
I have to say, I don't think I really want another AR. MAYBE a MK18 Mod0 clone in .22lr, but other than that, I'm really happy with this pair. Now I just need my suppressor stamp to come back and some more ammo!

Updated picture. I got tired of dealing with my Astigmatism and a red dot, so I dropped a dime (actually 13,500 of them) on what has been my dream optic – Night Force NXS 1-4x20 compact and LaRue LT104.
Took it to the range today and should had done this years ago…crystal clear reticule and I don’t have to use the “fattest part of the elongated football shape” to try to group my shots. I also took the advice of a couple of members here and have a Vickers/Blue Force sling on the way.
At the range today, I had a very enthusiastic young shooter “eye ****” my carbine and when he finally wore me down, started complimenting me on my “Recce” build…I did not have the heart to let him know my build was based more upon my poor eyesight rather than a need to chase a mythical style…

Just put this together:
Stag lower I've had built and sitting in the safe for years.
BCM bfh 16" mid length lightweight complete upper.
CavArms furniture. Wish I could remember where I put the matching pistol grip though.... It's currently wearing a standard A2 grip with the awful finger bump ground off.
Still needs a rear sight. Gonna go with a standard detachable carry handle and add tritium front and rear inserts. Basic light mount (of some type) and probably a Malkoff-ized Surefire G2 to come...

Did you use the arvoe paint for this look? Looks good.
Thanks.
No it's Krylon that didn't quite dry in places. It was sticky and got on my nerves so I threw the whole thing in a sink and scrubbed it with an SOS steel wool scrubber to remove all the sticky paint.
I'm still planning on repainting it, but I'm just sick of spray paint for awhile.
Those are all SOPMOD Block I accessories on a 6920 complete lower/BCM complete upper.
I know it's considered old kit but I find great utility with the Block I setup with the exception of the old Surefire lights. I like to train and compete with basic G.I. type setups like that just to have an equipment base line for comparison.

Got lucky and saw it in stock @ Brownells and immediately clicked the order button:D
Never got a chance to weigh it but its thier updated one with QD swivel mounts and I believe a lighter barrel nut, so it didn't make my rifle much heavier than it used to be, maybe a couple to a few ounces more (it was a DD M4V3 with the 9" rail and fixed front sight block before), still feels pretty balanced especially without the flashlight and its mount on the end there. With everything on it as pictured it feels equal in weight when compared to my stamped AK74 that has a microdot and ultimak gas tube rail.

Yea, good ol' Chinese optics at its best! Borrowed this Sightmark sight from a buddy until the Primary Arms red dots are back in stock. Actually works pretty good. He wants to sell it, but I have my heart set on the other "junker"!
I keep trying to learn the same thing you mentioned above, but no matter how hard I try I always seem to not have a single issue with my non-wallet-busting optics. On my 2nd year now with my old "piece-of-crap" $69 Primary Arms red dot mounted on my Daniel Defense AR and the damn thing keeps working and holding zero no matter how many rounds I fire through it. Actually, if you think about it, I could buy about 8 more of these from Primary Arms for what it would cost me to buy one of the REAL red dots. Oh well...I guess one day I'll learn!:dirol:
Oh yea...I haven't learned about tactical lights either. Believe it or not, I didn't buy a Surefire or a Streamlight. It is a Powertac E5. The darndest thing though...it turns on every time I push the button. Hard to believe it would do that when I paid under $100 for the whole package (light, mount and tape switch)!

I am glad that you have been more fortunate than I. The rear lens fell out of my less than two year old Primary Arms micro last weekend, and in front of an SME on this board to boot! It was never dropped. Only half the lens had adhesive applied. I have e-mailed PA and hope they will take care of me.

M6A2-S. Aimpoint 9000L-2X on Bobro QD and generic front flip cap. It absolute co-witnesses the factory Skirmish BUIS. Surefire X300. Wilson stubby VFG and oversized bolt catch. Mapul ASAP and CTR.
I do not have a precision scale but feels about 9/10 lbs with loaded 30rd PMAG.

Thanks. Here's a couple more plus the upper that goes with that lower.
I'm not sure how to set this one up yet and I had to snag some stuff from my 14.5" to try it out.
I might leave this one all black if I ever send in the paperwork on another lower I have here. For now, it needs to borrow this lower. I'm not really a fan of the x300 at 12 o'clock, but I'm very limited on space. I've gotten used to 9" and longer hand guards.

Found an Aimpoint M4s today for a smoking deal so I snatched it up. I think it will stay on my BCM for a long time to come. The M4s is built like a tank. The 2moa dot is great. I'll stuff the killflash in the buttstock.

Silentmark,

You have one with an LT751 mount. That's an absolute co-witness mount right? Where are the irons through the T1 on the CAS-V w/that particular LaRue?
