Stick. You use some impressive off-camera lighting schemes to create different "looks". Any chance you would post short pic details on future pics? Something along the lines of whether a softbox was used or umbrella. Focal length and aperture for the DOF, or lack of. I am a fan of selective focus shots with bokeh.
If you don't want to spill your trade secrets, completely understand.

Magpul MOE Scout mount. Just did a small write up on it:

Thank you. I found that after I asked the question. Bought the mount and it is on my SBR now. You were right on all counts.

Hey no problem and your welcome. I really have become a big fan of this mount. The main reason being the shelf for the thumb and how it indexes your thumb perfectly to momentarily activate the Scout.
It has me rethinking my SR07 on my other rifle when they come out with the rail light mount b/c it will have the shelf-or as Magpul calls it, ramp-as well.

Would someone possibly be able to do this in black and white with just the bullet tips colored? I don't know how..
Would someone possibly be able to do this in black and white with just the bullet tips colored? I don't know how..
In Photoshop, make a new layer and copy and paste the image so you have two copies of the image, one on each layer. Convert the bottom layer to b&w. Then erase the top layer except the tips.
Or convert the top layer to b&w and erase the tips. Probably easier that way.
I only have my phone now, sorry.

Obviously credit to kdcgrohl!
Just a quick and dirty change to black and white, with colored bullet tips.

I hate that! I take some pics with my wife's Canon Eos, and photobucket downgrades them every time.

The photo looks pretty good to me. I use weebly.com, which is a website/host wizard. I make a website and post the photos there. I haven't noticed any degradation in quality. But I don't take great photos.

According to TOS, my shiny Battle Comp is a 'new fad'. Guess I'll be swapping it out soon, I would hate to be trendy.
My brand spankin new Mod 1 with the wife's 6920 after installing a 45/50 degree BAD-ASS, Raptor CH, TLR-1 HL, and a Umbrella Grip.
Vltor A5, Vortex Viper PST 1-4x, and Griffin Armament Flash Comp coming soon! ... and maybe some Kryptek Highlander Hydro Dipping, I cant decide yet.

Thanks Jax, I defiantly lucked out and married out of my league with her, I just hope she doesn't come to her senses and figure it out.
Her rifle has been a fun experience, she has always been around and enjoyed shooting, but helping her pick out parts and see her figure out what she likes and dislikes has been very rewarding.
And no she doesn't have any sisters.

I really like this set up. Do you know the weight of it? How does it balance?
Weight? Oh it ain't light. I literally just got this upper back 2 hours ago and put it back together and just took a pic. Yeah it does have a bunch of crap on it. Gonna play with it over the next couple of weeks and see what can come off to lighten it. The RediMag, variable and Surefire stays. Other parts are in question. An off hand assumption with one mag is that I guess it weighs around 10.5 pounds.
I've never been concerned with light weight so I can live with it but trimming fat is never a bad thing.
-Jax
Thanks for the reply. Weight isn't as important to me as other things. I just wanted a relative idea of what others are running. As long as it doesn't have "extra" stuff hanging off it I don't mind

what optic mount on the hershey?
That is an American Defense Recon-H mount and I am glad my research paid off. Was looking for a variable mount that would closely match the cheek weld of a lower 1/3 cowitness of a RDS mount. Giving a fast pickup of the optic (and the large eyebox of the TR24 greatly helps) and not needing to go really low on a cheekweld.
The Recon-H does this quite well. While shooting prone it does require a slight lift from a good cheekweld but for what I'll be using this rifle for its perfect.
-Jax
Dammit Jax now I need to look at that mount :shout:

What is your camera set up?
I shoot with a Nikon D5100. I haven't poured any real money into good glass but I've been happy with what I've been using so far.

Nice rifle and VERY cool patch with Blackbeard's pirate flag. I live near his former stomping grounds. The wreck of his ship The Queen Anne's Revenge lies on the bottom of Beaufort Inlet about 15 miles from my house.

I appreciate that! Its not my own design creation. I copied the pattern off my STI 2011 grip done by Mike Cyrwus ie. Accurate Iron. He does his Benelli's like that also. I just experimented and luckily got it right the first time.
Soldering iron/wood burner with a blunt oval tip or do you have to press in and then drag? Or is it a 'tell me and have to kill me' deal. :)

How are you liking the URX rail after predominately shooting the RIS II?
First time shooting the rifle (well, I put a couple rounds through when I first bout it). Put a hundred rounds through. Need to head to a real range and sight it in, bad.

The DD 10.3" with DD MK18 RIS II, Surefire M300 on a gear sector mount, TA44 ACOG on a Larue Mount, KAC front and rear BUIS, BCM BCG, Raptor Charging handle, AAC 51T brake, and magpul RSA weighs 4.89#
The BCM BFH 11.5" with KAC URX II, Aimpoint T-1 on a LaRue mount, KAC Triple Tap, and all else the same, weighs 4.87#.
Identical weight, but for whatever reason the 11.5" points and seems to balance so much better. I have adjustable gas blocks on both and have them tuned for weak Tula ammo. They both shoot similar, but honestly I like the 11.5" with URX II better. Granted I can't put my can on it unless I change muzzle devices, but the flame the Triple Tap throws is just bitchin'. Still getting used to the Aimpoint T-1. Its ok, just different from the TA44 I grew so used to after thousands of rounds. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

I've experienced the same thing Jeremy. I've been thru a ton of different uppers for my SBR but for some reason, this 10.5 I have now just isn't my thing. I keep going back to 12.5in barrels for some reason. But my SBR is my trunk gun and I want the 10.5 to work for me for that reason.

That's honestly the same reason why I went 10.3". But I really dig this 11.5" right now. I didn't care too much for teh 12.5" i built. It had a 11" alpha rail on it. It was ok. I have a 11.5" with 10" centurion that feels really nice also, but i've barely shot it. Actually trying to trade it for a 14.5" LW midlength, for the wife.

According to TOS, my shiny Battle Comp is a 'new fad'. Guess I'll be swapping it out soon, I would hate to be trendy.

HAHAHA........I thought it was a picture of a shelf and some books!

I used aervoe paint for 3 colors (earth brown, green, light tan)
then a Krylon camo light green. I used ghillie netting to drape
over the rifle while applying each layer. First layer was the
earth brown, then hit it here and there with light tan, then
followed by green, then the light green. Move the netting around
each layer so it alternates the pattern. There is duracoat
underneath it all. I didnt like the duracoat pattern when I got it
back so I just took matters into my own hands. Glad you like
it.

I think the worn look is kinda cool. Check the aervoe paint
chart and see if they have a color thats close. It's pretty
durable stuff

There is about 6 coats of this on my can. The can has about 1000 rounds through it since the paint job, some full auto. There is a little bubbling by the muzzle. Paint can says up to 2000 degrees....

Thats my buddy's rifle that I 'stole' from him (ironic phrasing because he is a cop ;)) while he went on a cruise. He left it with me to fix his castle nut and stake it.
But yeah I've put quite a few rounds through that rifle and I really do like that handguard. Solid, locks up tight, and is very slim. IIRC it is only marginally wider than the NSR. The bolt on pic rails do not need a backing plate (big plus) and they are nicely made as well.
It does get hot quite fast though. I was going to give him some KAC panels to grind on to fit the Gen 2 but he showed me MI came out with panels for them. Here is a link that has the panels:
http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=450
Would I trade my NSR for it? No sir but I've always thought M.I. products were good but just not as refined as say Noveske or Daniel Defense products. I must say Midwest has stepped up their game a bit with this handguard.

I have been lurking on this forum for years but have never had a reason to post…until now. I have always wanted to acquire an AR-15 since as far back as I can remember. A few months ago I only had basic knowledge of the platform. I set out to learn everything I could about functionality of the system and what constituted a quality product before I made a purchase. I invested a lot of time talking with different employees at gun stores and conducting research on the web. I have found that if I have a question regarding the AR-15 platform, somebody else has already asked it online!
I recently made my final selection: the Daniel Defense DDM4V5 Lightweight model. It weighs in at 6 pounds 5 oz. and feels good in my hands. This one was built March 2013 so it includes the updated quad rail which is much slimmer and to my liking. I recently added the Magpul CTR stock along with the MOE grip. I chose Troy folding battle sights for starters (electronic optic to be added later). I have a BCM mod 4 charging handle on the way and have just received a VCAS sling for it. I have not gone to the range yet. I am looking forward to getting it zeroed and seeing how it shoots.
If there are any accessories beyond what I have already named that you would recommend, please let me know. I am very interested in learning more about the variety of different options that are available for my carbine. Particularly in regards to flashlights and optics such as Aimpoint, Eotech, etc. Here are a few pictures:
http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa104/ntech/DDM_zpsaa24797b.jpg (http://s197.photobucket.com/user/ntech/media/DDM_zpsaa24797b.jpg.html)

Welcome! Great choice, good foundation to build from. I would prioritize purchases like this..
1. training
2. magazines/ammo
2. light (Surefire m600/300 scout, G2X, Fury)
3. sling (Vickers padded)
4. optic (Aimpoint)
Everything else, like triggers, grips, rails, stocks, is preference-driven and you'll figure that out after completing (and repeating) step 1. :)

Ok everyone, so i did my homework and bought the AR that i believe will suit my needs. no big deal, first of all, it is a flat top rifle, so no sights, i had to buy something, right? so MBUS it was! they were cheaper then the troy sights and i knew there was no way of getting used to the rifle without even seeing what im aiming at! so i get home, my new Daniel Defense still in the box, and mount the MBUS, so i do some "drills" in my room. the first thing i did not like was the grip, the a2 i belive, it HAD to go. i know if i wasnt comfortable with it before even firing any shots i would not be comfy firing.. so the Magpul MOE grip was perfect! rubbery and non slippery, best of all, no hump.
Next, i aim down the sights and attempt to "load" the rifle, i had a difficult time ADS and pulling the charging handle at the same time, so now, that had to go!! even though i knew it wasnt all that necessary, i picked up the BCM mod 3, large handle, much better.
i will admit, i got the Magpul BAD lever because i had some coins in a jar and cashed them in, i liked the way i could keep my eyes on target and reload while keeping my left arm on the grip, take my hand off the trigger, and reach for a fresh mag and pop the lever. its peace of mind for me
Next came the EOTech, i was going to save up for a good Aimpoint, but i got this sight used for a really good price so i could not let that offer pass!! the guy even included his GG&G mount!! (not in pics) lastly the rail covers.. i wont lie, i liked the way they look, even though the gun came with some basic ones. i bought the Magpul XTM , they were cheap, and i figured it would be good insurance to protect my rail in case i somehow dropped the rifle. it came with the grip and Magpul MOE stock so i wont cover those.. i have put all these things on my rifle without even firing a shot! how do i know?? well ive shot other AR's before and i own other guns so i knew what to expect and what i wanted where. a while ago i read the "shoot first before you mod" thread and i did agree and disagree with some things.
back to the question, why did I mod before shooting???? why not? if opportunity knocks, answer it!!! of course i will zero the MBUS before the EOTech and i will most likely take it off for a few mags to shoot with the MBUS, the rail covers? again, cheap rail insurance. bad lever?? theory based product.. some like it some don't. the BCM gunfighter?? everyone needs one!! i rest my case with some pics. all i need now is a good range and a good training session.. feel free to rant away at me and give me tips! :)

Moved the EOTech back. Don't bridge the gap. Your zero will wander as the gun heats up. You can let it hang over the rail, just move the clamp onto the upper receiver.
Fix your front sight.
Get rid of the shit sling.
Go take a class with a good instructor.

Does that weapon not roll outboard when you let it hang due to the position of the forward sling attachment toward the bottom of the rail?

Fun stuff! At the last class I went to my buddy locked the gun up so hard during override drills we had to take the receiver extension off to get the bolt to move.

Yes, it does roll outboard if I'm standing up but I normally use the single point on the Magpul ASAP. I put the sling attachment there as a reference point so that I can naturally grip the forearm and be comfortable while looking through the MTAC when the stock is collapsed to get a tighter stance tucking in the weapon while crouching.

Did you get the BCM lower with SD-E trigger from G&R? I was eyeing that and then it went "Out of Stock"! It was you! :D

He said it because he told me it was a good camo job. You can't see the picture though? It might be because something is disabled on your settings

And yes it was me. :p I got it with the SD-E from G&R, It came with the Magpul polymer trigger guard, but I saw the Phase 5 winter trigger guard on a photo online and thought it looked good with the SD-E. I have not shot it yet. But I ll give you 1 guess as to what I will be doing this weekend. I will try to get a couple pics at the range. I ll post them and let you know how she shoots.
My rig for work :D
What do you mean by "rig for work"? I know of no PD which would allow a carbine like that to ever see the street
Curious as well. I wouldn't think Lucid optics are on the 'approved' list.

Lack of iron sights/ BUIS would make it a no go, I say that as a state as well as a department instructor.

UT. He may be a campus cop?
Perhaps he means the Glock?

utcop's second post is a hit!!! Hopefully he explains his "rig" and agency policy further...
I work for The Most Liberal (arguably) LE agency in the country, The National Park Service, and we wouldn't be able to carry that. We have a list of approved optics, mounts and lights and BUIS are mandatory. Since this is a picture thread here is my duty rifle...

I had Joint Force Enterprises do some Magpul furniture up in UDE. Its a bit darker, but I really like it. This was purely about looks. Thinking of getting the receivers and rail done in Tungsten.

 Are you Utah Highway Patrol, or do you work for a state agency? Either way, if the AR was issued that way, the armorer for your agency is not doing you any favors.

I work for the Utah Department of Corrections, they have been known to spend as little money as possible for our equipment.

While I have been extremely shocked by the lack of knowledge of quality parts and brands by several agencies in Utah that I have personal experience with, I still have a hard time believing that this was issued this way on purpose...

I still find that hard to believe that they claim it's "ok" without a BUIS. I know of no dept that would issue such a rifle...definitely not mine, and definitely not any other in AZ. It is a huge liability.

I guess they issue sticks with the hope that you'll never need to actually use them. Seems like a solid game plan.

DOC and police are two different things. That being said, I would take the below carbine over that any day of the week. It isn't the fault of the individual if that is what they were issued and are forced to carry. They can try to make changes from the inside of the organization, but most of the time that is exceedingly difficult, and frowned on.

It isn't a PD or LE agency, it is DOC.

I understand the differences between COD, PD, SO and what not but my point is why issue a rifle unless you equip it properly should it ever need to be used? Lack of BUIS is unacceptable IMO and I realize it's not his fault and as such my opinions were directed not at him but at those who would make the decision that such a rifle as adequate for use.

You're assuming the person making the decisions actually knows anything about the AR platform and related optics and accessories. And that he knows anything about gun fighting in theory or practice. It's not always the case, and his advisors may also equally be clueless.

Then this is a failure of epic proportions and would be the equivalent of law makers not knowing the first thing about the subjects they're writing laws for... wait, never mind.

The agency (in Utah) my neighbor works for issued them Rock River carbines, with EOTech 512 s and TLR3 installed at 6 o'clock on a rail section that was screwed to the stock hand-guards. Nothing else, no sling or anything at all. They qualified with them and have not used them since. Two other agencies (in Utah) I have been working with issued bushmaster's in stock form. One didn't even do a qualification on it, I was told that they haven't even fired them in over a year but they are in all patrol vehicles. The other, qualified with upon hiring...and that is all.
My next project now that I have gone to a private industry job is to try to get a state standard set for at least the training. The garbage they get taught in the academy is also just appalling.
