I am building a 12.5"er and looking for rail options. I want a tight rail system with decent ventilation. Priority is size and lightness. Thanks in advance for any replys!

larue and DD omegas are little.. a lot shorter than DDs other rails. not quite sure why they make most of their rails so tall- wish they wouldn't. like you, i like something i can really wrap my beater around.

I like DD rails alot they are pretty narrow and are very light weight. I have the Omega 7 and like it alot...

I had the chance to handle the Troy VTAC rail for the first time the other day and the first thing I noticed is how small it felt in the hand. It felt much smaller than the Larue's that I currently have on my guns. While I didn't have the chance to wring one out it felt very solid and the reviews here from guys that have all seem to re-enforce that first impression. I was so impressed that my current build will end up sporting a 13 inch VTAC rail.

+1 on the VTAC rail for a small circumference. Personally I found it too small, but if I were looking for a small circumference on a rail I think you will be hard pressed to find a smaller one.

Larue is my favorite for a quad rail; I too am circumference picky.

Do you mean small in circumference, or short in length?

For the lightest one I'd want to carry into Combat, the Daniel Defense lite rails are awesome. For pure lightness and comfort, I'd use a Troy TRX Extreme.

Mega billet mono rail is very nice.

I have a Troy VTAC and a DD Omega they are both nice and thin. I have a huge paw but they both work well for me. I like the VTAC because it gives me the 12 o'clock light mount option.

I don't know why Folks don't talk about SWS Rails. That what comes on a Noveske and People seem to like Noveske. I like the slender profile and the machining is second to none. Its so good you don't even really need rail covers because they are so smooth. The only downside is the lack of an intregal Q/D swivel mount and they aren't super lite like a DD.

DD mega is real narrow. I like my DD Lites. Narrow, great lock up.

i love SWS rails... but they are heavier than they need to be. it's a design flaw, if you ask me- needing that massive steel barrel nut.

all the same, i fully intended to have ol' arty custom make me a rail for my previous SPR project... but then the Obamanation happened, and Noveske had him maxed out, and we had to shelve the project- never did happen, unfortunately.

I think BK has better Google-fu than I do because I can't seem to find it and maybe he can, or remembers the posts but recently pics have been posted here of a thin, machined rail system with a smooth finish to the rear and a rextured handgrip area. I can't remember the manufacturer but these rails may be an option. I think the Stick may have posted pics but I can't find them on his page either.

mega has a monorail that's un-railed on the sides, and wilson combat makes a rail similar to what you're describing.. http://shopwilsoncombat.com/Quad-Rail-Carbine-Length-Gas-System/productinfo/TR-QRH-WS/

I am thinking of a 7.62 build next year and think these will be perfect for it.

first i've seen of this one..

as with all non-railed handguards, don't use it on a weapon that'll be shot hot.

Good advice. I've only had a chance to run a magazine through my VTAC rail and it was slow aimed fire. I'd never thought much about the rails but they must act like a radiator.

I have the Troy TRX tube on one of my guns now and I love it.
