View Full Version : Because I feel like kicking a kitten.... (Rem 700)
After seeing the prelims from MSNBC and CNBC I figured I'd post up a 700 I'm working on. Started life as a 700P that being used as a benchrest stick..

Blackhawk Knoxx stock (don't ask, it's not staying for dinner), Warne 20MOA base & rings, Bushnell 3-12x FFP Slite 3200 (working well except one issue).

Pleased with the results, but I need to bring the time down. Currently 2.5min, needs to be sub 60sec (closer to 35sec actually).
I'll post up more as I make progress.
I'm assuming you don't care for the Knoxx/Blackhawk stock?
Any specific reasons, or does it just suck in general? I've fondled a few in shops before, and wasn't overly impressed, but I thought it was a neat concept.

That's correct. The short version is that the ff front is very 'springy' plastic and tends to bounce/flex a good bit even on bags. The 'shock reduction' is 'meh' at best.

Is that a type of drill?
I've never heard of it before.
I really need to pick up a bolt gun.

You sure do! ;)

Its a CSAT drill for precision rifle, pistol and tactical rifle.
I've been eyeing the JAE stock for a M700 build next year. Anyone have one?

My understanding is that no one has one yet. That stock has been in the works for several years now with no reliable estimate of delivery date.
Yeah the JAE stuff is boat anchor heavy and EVERY last screw is an option that you have to pay for. I handled the prototype at SHOT (09?) and it was heavy. I'd be curious how they fare once they make it into competent end user hands however.
Those JAE's are pretty neat, but if you're after a modular style stock, AICS are hard to beat. Especially since you can actually get them. :D
Is that Knoxx a short or long action stock? If its a short, I might be interested in buying when you retire it. Been thinking about getting one for an ultralight-ish build. My current .308 is 17lbs.

A question on shot placement. You are very consistant with your shot placement, but for incapacition would it be prefereed to have the POI a bit lower, like in the eyes? I gotta think that blowing the top of the guys head off like you are is going to be effective, but from a CNS prespective would a lower shot reduce the chance of the BG getting a shot off? Didn't know if the hostage placement played into your shot placement. You seem consistant enough that you could do the typical CNS shot if you wanted to.
The girl is pixalated because that would be MSgt Paul Howe's daughter, Mary-Katherine, hence the drill name.
As for shot placement, I'm not a CNS trauma expert by any means, but the shot placement seems to be in line with various hostage style targets out there. I could probably stand tune up however. I'm currently shopping a precision rifle class, but I haven't found anything within my range/budget yet.
