Hit the desert yesterday with two friends. We took turns shooting the SPR. Started at 900 meters (984 yards). This was really hard to see misses through my crappy spotting scope, and there were plenty of misses. It took 15 shots to get on target, then we were at the mercy of the wind gods. I hit 2 in a row once, but was missing about 80-90%. The plate is 12'' circle with 8'' circle on top. Wind was light at full value but always changing which made things tough. Once we felt bad enough we moved up to 760m (831yds). This was more fun and we were missing much less. It was challenging, but not as hopeless feeling as shooting at 900. Once we burned through the "primo" TMK reloads, we moved up to 595m (650yards) and shot some Nosler CC reloads. This was pretty easy shooting, shooting rapidly and getting rapid hits.

Taken with handheld cell phone, pic is terrible but you can see what 16x at distance looks like. This was at 760m(831yds). The target is seen low and right of the crosshairs.

One hit landed on an edge of the plate and spun it / flopped it, causing the lower plate to sag by an inch due to the paracord slipping off of it's spot behind the plate. Normally the paracord is totally hidden from the front view. It is a 1/4'' plate so it moves a lot when hit.
ETA: Big thanks again to Waveslayer for recommending this poly material to hang the target with instead of heavy chains. We shot it once or twice, and it just left a perfectly nice hole, no cracks or anything. It could be swiss cheese and still hold the plate up.

That's awesome. I must admit I've never taken my AR's past 500yds. Good shooting bud. Looks like a lot of fun - except for the wind. I hate the wind.

Very nice. I have only been out to 500 yds with my Mk12-ish BCM. The ATACR was a little more than I wanted to spend. I went with the NF 2.5-10x32 which has been very nice. Nice shooting.

Who makes that cheek rest on your STR stock?It is just a sheet of kydex that I cut with a razor and formed with a heat gun. And a dot of adhesive to make sure it doesn't shift.

SOLGW mk10 308. Picked up yesterday, shot today. 7 rds of 168g FGMM at 100 yards. 2nd group is 10 rds, wind ripped the staples 5 rds in, still a good group with the target blowing around. Here's a stupid question(probably) but I'm gonna ask anyway. 300 yd range and farther....it would seem to me that spreads would be more windage than elevation. But on the great groups I see here the extreme spread seems to be more elevation? What variables would cause windage(other than wind. Duh) spreads and what variables would cause elevation spreads(other than velocity)?

Angle of wind: head on, slows bullet down (so drops); tailwind is opposite.
Commercial ammunition frequently has different powder charges, so one cartridge is a little hotter, or slower, than most of the others.
Barrel heating up due to "rapid fire" changes point of impact, and not always just up or down.
Biggest variable is always that big nut on the end of the stock! If you don't hold an absolutely consistent position/grip/etc., you will change POI yourself.

And my favorite part of this build: a Leupold Mark 4 TS30A2 (with the hash marks, battery tether, and MK262 turret)

I was also able to get my hands on a custom fabricated reproduction of the prototype flash hider that Crane was developing, but never went to production. Kind of a cool novelty piece.

Thank you! I've always loved the Mod 0, but just never got around to building one until recently. The scope was by far the toughest part to find, but it was well worth it. I can see why the USMC chose it as the optic for the M38, even despite its age.

Some don't realize you can't just buy the parts any day of the week for those projects. It's a real project on a number of levels, learning, sourcing, building, and ultimately having a successful end product. Not a big clone myself, but I can certainly see how one derives much satisfaction especially from some of the harder ones such a Mod 0.

Beyond all that, I imagine that's one of the most fun rifles to shoot, as most Mk12s, or SPRs are.

I have two slick sided and like them just fine, but if you were to buy another, which upper would you get? And why?

No pics of groups, however with Norma 77 grain match I shoot just under and inch, MK262 come in just over an inch or so, IMI M193 IIRC prints about 2” give or take but I have to knuckle down real hard to hold that.

Im comtemplating on swapping out the ADM scope mount for the ARMs 22 rings. Not sure if the scope will work with it. Since the top rail is limited in space. And I dont want to bridge the scope on to the handguard

my wife's rifle is on the bottom. It's a light weight build . Weight without optics is 5.6lbs.
