Mega MA-TEN with Noveske N6 20" barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor. Geissele DMR trigger, JP/VTAC LR308 rifle length handguard, heavy AR10 carbine buffer, Tubbs flat wire extended action spring. It's a great shooter and recoil is very mild.

Here's mine. She started life as a stock grade M1A with all USGI parts but I upgraded parts with a lot of NM parts and the stock is one of the USMC DMR project over-runs (which explains the selector lever cut out) bedded with Devcon rather than the traditional glass bedding eliminating the bedding breakdown problems associated with glass bedding. Using my reloads, it will do 1/2" MOA groups on a good day and 3/4" groups when I am rushing things a bit. I used it back home in ND for deer hunting and to date, my longest shot on a critter has been 682 yards according to my Lecia 1200. No, it's heavy but it shoots pretty well.

I'm in the planning stages with mine, I would like to ask those that just posted pics only (yeah, I know it's a pic thread) to include a parts list (to include the scope model) to help those of us who are now just planning to select parts.
Thanks in advance.
ETA: I keep my parts list for my carbine on a word document so I can copy and paste it when I need to, so I don't have to type it again every time I want to post it.

This take on the SPR is excellent, the Bravo Company upper is extremely well made and the BCM SS410 Ion Bond barrel is a true sub MOA tack driver, I recently shot two back to back groups at 200 yards that measured less than an inch. It might have a Leupold MK4 3.5-10x40mm in the near future.

Probably the most versatile AR I own, my modern take on the SEAL Recce rifle is capable of red dot optic speed at close range yet will make good hits out past 600 yards. Doubles as my 3 Gun rifle. The LW50 barrel is sub MOA capable. The SEALs knew what they were doing with the 16" Recce.

Wow, that is a good looking setup. I, however, have nearly no clue what it is!
What type of handguard is this?
What type of gas block system is this rifle sporting?
And what is up with the collar on the barrel right behind the brake?
Very interesting indeed, particularly the gas block/switch block setup.

I'm a sucker for long barreled KAC .308's...that said the 20" EMR is looking mighty redundant right about now in the face of the 16" EMC. Kinda like a SDMR vs. Recce.
I would be shooting your badass EMC prone...soon or later somebody is gonna dedicate their EMC to pursuing a true precision based .308 recce. This would include running a SD-E/DMR, in your case a SB pmII 3-12x..my case a nxs 2.5-10x, UBR and I would include a secondary T-1. The barrel is capable of pumping out the accuracy needed, everybody just wants to run it like a carbine so far though.
When I can finally grab the MWS w. 20" Rock SS .260rem after shot show, I would eventually like to grab the 16" Rock SS .308 and do exactly what I listed above.

His EMC has a Leupold with Horus reticle, and offset T1. His EMR has the 4-16 SB PMII with Horus. Mine has the Short-Dot.
That said if I was going to go a precision 308 I would get a LaRue since it has the built in 20MOA rail. One thing we have figured out is its extremely hard to get the full elevation adjustment out of scopes without having at least 30MOA of cant between the scope and gun. His 4-16 bottoms out about half way, and on my Mk12 build I get 13 mils out of 22 since we are both running 0 cant bases and rails. No one makes a QD cantilever mount in with enough MOA in them. Granted 13 mils gets me out to beyond 1k yards in 556 but if I were running a Grendel, 260 or 308 it would barely be enough at 1k. LaRue makes the 10MOA SPR 1.5 type mount but thats only an additional 2.9 mils.
KAC makes this (http://www.operationparts.com/Kac_Knights_Armament_One_Piece_Scope_Mount_34mm_p/25284.htm) with 19MOA built in but its not QD, and doesn't offer as much forward cant to put the scope further forward as other mounts.
The other option Im looking at getting the is Sphur mount: http://www.spuhr.com/
http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1981607
A 20MOA mount would give almost 6 more mils in down elevation, and is pretty kick ass. You can attack a rail to the side for a offset T1, laser, ect. Do a google image search....

Oh and regards to the EMC Vs. EMR I think an EMC would be a better choice if you were going to get ONE of them. With that AE M1A ammo I made 20/20 hits at 500 on a 12" plate, and with XM80 was around 50% on a LaRue at 750. 16" 308 can be stretched to 1k but if I was looking for a 1k yard gun it would not be a 308. At the range Ive seen lots of people with various calibers being way more effective at 1k than anyone with a 308 would be regardless of skill. It just has too much wind drift and drop. Where I shoot its almost always windy from 10-25MPH so I can see the effects of wind.
So that kinda leaves the 20" SA swingin in the breeze. For pure precision shooting you can get a 16 or 18" LaRue, and be more accurate than an EMC but with the 20MOA built in it requires a cheek riser of some sort.
Obviously a intermediate 6.5 round would offer a SA in a better LR round than 308. I was actually toying around with building a SR25 based upper in 6.5x47 but it seems people either think Im dumb to do it or dont want to respond back to potential customers. Id just have a bolt gun made how I want but for that Im going to have to save, and just get an AI AW, shoot the 308 barrel out, and then rebarrel it. I think Ive spent my gun budget in advance for the next 2 years already though so I dont see me doing that anytime soon...
That is great info on the LR applications of the EMC/EMR. The problem w. the Larue that has the 20 moa built in is that while it is indeed very much appropriate for those 1000yd distances, its extremely cumbersome and is really ill suited for any application except very LR applications. Like you said, it makes finding a proper buttstock a PITA and I never had a precision gun worth a damn that did not have a great stock that afforded me the proper cheek weld.
Its easy to get caught up in trying to find or build the most extreme precision rig but I always have to step back and remind myself that once you give up the EMC or MWS type gun and go searching for some boutique one application rifle like the Larue for extensive LR purposes you basically give up what makes the AR so special...its modularity, mission specific adaptability, and overall freedom within the platform to achieve numerous applications very effectively.
If I am gonna spend the big cheese on a .308 AR than it better bring significant advantages over a top shelf 5.56 AR. The only two that I believe will do that for me personally is the MWS and EMC.
As for your gun budget.....heck once you grabbed the EMC you basically got 2 years worth of exploring, refining, and eventually fully utilizing it's specific advantages. The EMC has vast potential for other configurations and while 9/10 folks see the biggest potential for it being a true .308 battle rifle or carbine given the softer recoil and lighter weight, I def. see it being much more of a versatile platform and adapted to fill much wider mission demands.

On your Noveske Afgan. You should not bridge the optic from the receiver to the rail. The scope is also too forward. Not sure how you are able to shoot it like that..
Pat
Pat u r correct on the scope hitting the buis(troy) that is why. I don't
have any problems shooting like it is set up. Bridging the scope is probably why I can't get the groups I expect from the Noveske barrel. I'm gonna switch the arms mount to a Larue and that will be better thanks Chad
You can always run a A.R.M.S. Swan Sleeve which will kill two birds with one stone...first it will provide you the clearance to clear the rear buis w/o switching rings or buying a new mount, secondly it will mate up your separated upper rec. and rail better and overall making it more rigid for mounting optics.
The worst way to mount glass on an AR 15 is to run separate rings with one on the upper rec. and the other on the rail...like the above setup. I still would not bridge the gap with a one piece mount like a larue or adm. The Swan Sleeve has a place in the AR builder's repertoire of kit and it seems like you might could benefit from the use of one.

I have some risers I could send you that are small that you could put under your mounts. They may rise it too high as they put it up about .5 inch.

Rusty, can you tell me what you think of the Mark AR? Is it a temporary optic or are you liking it enough that its staying? For an inexpensive optic I hear its pretty nice. I may buy an SPR and can't afford a NF for a long while.

It comes calibrated for 55's @ 3100 fps and the BDC works pretty damn good out to 400yrds, that's the max of my current range. I tried some other rounds through it and it grouped the Privi 75gr match very well so I have decided to have Leupold make me some turrets for that round. All in all it is a very good offering for the money.........;)
Here’s my LAR 8 with a ACOG and JP brake.. I love this rifle, I can shoot it all day at 500 yards, unfortunately the ACOG doesn’t really see anything past that thou. Or I’m just getting old and looking for excuses :p

An AK74 is not a precision rifle.
No disrespect intended, but why mount your Short Dot so high above the bore axis? Maybe its the picture, but it looks like you have 1' clearance above the Troy BUIS. Did you use a LT 135 (1.93" high rise version) instead of LT 104?

Some of these manufacturers have sure gotten pretty lax on they consider an mk12, eh?
FromMyColdDeadHand

I struggle to come up with any other name for an accurate, LR oriented AR, which is why I think MK12 seems to resonate. I consider my 18inch rifle length gas, PRS stocked AR a "Mk12" mainly because I use it to shoot Mk262ish ammo in an accuracy role.
I think the "Mk12" moniker is a victim of its own success, the "scout rifle" of the 21st century.
PS. Love the site baileymoto, any videos?

I agree, to an extent. I think the "SPR" term has been bastardized enough now that its generally acceptable to call any scoped 18-22" AR an "SPR", despite the lack of any original characteristics. However, as a purist, I'm still stomping my foot on calling them mk12's, lol. Much like I feel an M4ergy should have a notched barrel, front post, and hopefully a 14.5" length (tho, I will accept 16"), I believe the mk12 should hold true to at least a few of its original design points: such as its barrel. The barrel is essentially what makes an Mk12 an Mk12. These days, it seems like any scoped AR is simply an SPR, but I'm starting to see the trend lean towards just calling all of them mk12s. Without the barrel and collar, I have a hard time calling it an mk12....I'd rather call em an SPR at this point :p
But you're right..imitation is the best form of flattery.
With all that aside, I'm sure the above rifle is as cable as it is beautiful. :)
Thanks for the compliments! I have a few videos here and there. I do have an mk12 video from the documentary "The Battle for Marjah"..I think it might be on youtube. I haven't had much time lately to tend to the site, but there will be an image module and forum going up soon...if I ever find the time. Perhaps someone will offer to take the lead on it.
Cheers
I find it interesting that people, especially on the net, get so caught up in the semantics. Applying the logic that a Mk 12 can only be a mil issued Mk 12 would make the name of this website nonsensical.
When we talk about a Mk 12 here or a Mk 18 everybody knows we are talking about our (or the manufacturers) interpretation of a similar weapon. If it was a real Mk 12 we would say, "Here is the Mk 12 I was issued..."
Don't worry too much about M4 or Mk 18 or even the Mk 12 designations, we are all just enthusiastic AR owners.

All that is being suggested is that if one is going to use a military designation to name the rifle, perhaps it should bare at least SOME similar (and vital) characteristics to the weapon in question.

You mean like weapon platform, barrel length, caliber, a free float rail...
Look if it isn't issued by Uncle Sam it isn't a Mk 12 we all know that, I understand you are obviously passionate about the Mk 12 but this is an enthusiasts site for the AR. You will see all sorts of designations that don't exactly fit; SPR, Recce, Mk12, M4 relax it is a picture thread and they are all AR15s.

My tone wasn't harsh in my original post (noted by the lol's and smiley faces), no need to really relax. I'm just pointing out the lack of attention to detail. If you want to call your AR15 with a 16" pencil barrel, A2 stock, and flip up front site an "M4", go right ahead. Just expect the raised eyebrows from many.
Again, no one is suggesting it needs to be 'issued from Uncle Sam'.
I'd feel the same way if someone haphazardly slapped a Stingray emblem on their 1969 Corvette for nostalgic reasons, but didn't at least install the correct hood.
Like you've eluded to...just call them all AR-15's if one doesn't know the differences. Problem solved. :)

CamI would say yeah but I did it twice on the same target (which I didn't post because it isn't as impressive) but here it is. I forgot to smack the turret for the shots on the top right corner.

Its a KAC what else to say.
I'd like RA to compare it to his 21" Noveske. Why the new 7.62 AR etc.
I'd like RA to compare it to his 21" Noveske. Why the new 7.62 AR etc.
The 21 is an AR10 I rebarreled with a Noveske barrel long ago, I got it before the current crop of all kinds of .308 ARs popped up onto the market.
As far as comparison, my SR25EMC is equally accurate, more reliable, and has lower recoil (and of course shorter and lighter). I like everything about it better.:D Ive used SR25s of various kinds many times while deployed and they have always worked well for me, the EMC was really the first time KAC had one in my price range. So far I couldnt be happier, its an amazing gun.
I would have sold the AR10, but my dad wanted a precision semi and basically stole it haha.

You do enjoy a fringe benefit most of us don't, I bet you can shoot it on the military ranges perhaps.

Its a pretty pricey to shoot and that was my motivation to get a 308.

Banging at 1000 yards. Hornady 75 grain Steel Match ammo did well...there was no wind...and I still had quite a bit of horizontal stringing on the plate. But I wasn't convinced I'd hit it at all. Certainly couldn't hang with the guys shooting .308 bolt guns and hand loads though.
Best five shot group was around two feet and when there was less than five mph wind.
Target is the white dot...a 4'x8' piece of steel with a black dot painted in the middle.

^^Very nice pair...a stretch MRP and a MWS make for a winning combo every time in my book:)
Tirident ......
You are the reason I got back into the LMTs again. I can't wait to get the 6.5 barrels for the MWS. I narrowed my rifles down to these two. Got a little crazy with krylon.
I've never had the balls to paint my rifles, but I think it looks great when I see it done on others.
My next rifle will be another MWS...just the LM8 variety. The only problem with shooting a precision MWS and MRP side by side I've found is that I just don't wanna shoot the wimpy ass 5.56:D

My first gun purchase, we've been through a lot together. She doesn't get out much these days compared to the ARs, but she's still a hoot to play with.
Springfield M1A Loaded, NM stainless barrel, NM trigger, Sadlak NM Piston, Sadlak NM spring guide, JAE-100 stock (Gen I, I was one of the first to get one), M14.ca CASM scope mount (jury is still out on this), Vortex 6.5-20x44 PA (purchased for another rifle, thought I'd play with it today on this one).

How do you like that scope?
.
Optical clarity is nice, as is the eye relief. Seems sturdy enough. I have the SFP mil-dot reticle (accurate at 14x), but capped 1/4 MOA turrets. If you are happy with those kind of specs, I think it's nice. I was playing on my club's 600 yd gong range (gongs spaced at 125 yd intervals up to 600 yds) and working on adjusting turrets to make impacts. I would prefer uncapped turrets for that use, but I think the scope would work great for a set-it-and-forget-it kind of use.
I bought this scope for another project that hasn't come to fruition yet, so it got to run on the M14. I plan to replace it with the SWFA 3-9x42 FFP mildot scope.

If I'm patient and do my part, it shoots sub-MOA, with Prvi Partizan 75 gr. (Haven't tried Black Hills 77s yet). What about yours?
Nice! Finished it last night so no idea yet. Headed out to the farm this evening to let it rip. Have a couple hundred SWA 77gr ready to go :D With the upper, ammo, and Geissele SSA-E I'll have no one to blame but myself if it doesn't hit sub MOA.

As others pointed out, attaching a piccatiny section to the bottom of VTAC TRX causes the backing plate to contact the gas block. To over come this, I used two backing plates to secure the front and rear of the bottom piccatiny rail section, allowing the gas block to remain unimpeded.
Unfortunately due to being in AWB state, I had to use Colt lower with sear block and large FCG pins. This limited my choice of triggers. Due to time constraints, I was able to get Jard single stage, non-adjustable trigger, although I wanted Geissele SSA-E.
With standard Colt USGI trigger, I was getting about 1.6 MOA at 100 yards with PPU 75gr, FGMM 69gr and SWA77 run and gun.

Hope to see you up there sometime. There is another member who frequents Delaware as well. He has an SPR similar to yours. I am sure you will see him and myself up there at some point. I don't have an SPR, but I do bring an AR or two and maybe my LMT MWS.
Have fun.

My good friend and FORMER local builder, Kevin Johnson (Johnson Tactical Rifles, LLC - BEFORE his website is gone! https://www.johnsontactical.com/toc/) here in Pittsburgh finished my 18" SPR, last August. It was a LONG time coming, as barrel blanks were hard to come by last summer, but it was well worth the wait; his work always was. As it turned out though, this was in fact, JTR's FINAL rifle. :(
Kevin moved to Washington state for a new job last September, but if you wanted SERIOUS rifle work done (which my craptacular photography will NOT do justice to) in Pittsburgh, Kevin was who you went to!
Some PARTICULARS on THIS rifle, for instance (Taken off his former website);
Features Overview
• Comes standard with a 1/8 twist, 18", Medium Profile 416SS barrel. Available with a number of other barrel options (See Below)
• Full Auto Carrier, High Pressure Tested and Magnetic Particle Inspected Bolt properly staked and lapped flat carrier key. Chrome lined Young National Match carriers available!
• Barrel chambered with matched bolt
• Standard with Troy Extreme 13" Rail. (Mine utilies the 15" Troy tube!)
• Available in Rifle or Intermediate, or Mid gas lengths
• 11 degree target crown
• Low profile gas block
• A2 Flash Suppressor
• Polished M4 feed ramps
• Mil-Spec Forged 7075 T6 upper receiver with T-markings, forward assist, hinged dust cover, and M4 feed ramps.
1. These uppers feature my Limited Life Time Warranty.
2. High Pressure Testing followed by Magnetic Particle Inspection assures a rock solid bolt.
3. 223 Wylde chamber increases accuracy and works with 5.56 NATO or .223 SAMMI spec ammunition.
4. Every upper is built by one person from start to finish.
5. I guarantee that every SPR Upper will hold sub-MOA groups and prove that by sending you a picture of the test!
6. I custom fit the rail/upper, chamber/bolt, gas block/barrel, and comp/flash hider interfaces to insure a highly accurate build.
7. We align our barrel blanks to 2/10000 of an inch bore alignment before threading or chambering!
8. These are uppers are built for pushing the 5.56 to ranges unheard of before. I use the Gritters or Two Line method to chamber my SPR barrels. It adds UP MOA to the shot allowing you more elevation at distance.
Quality Assurance
Every single upper that Johnson Tactical produces is fully tested before delivery to the customer. We feel your paying for quality and our job is to insure that is what you are getting! We start by manually inspecting every part, then as the build progresses it’s fit with the other components. Some parts are hand fitted to ensure tighter tolerances. A good example of this is the gas block to barrel fit. This needs to be precise to eliminate gas leaks
I went with his custom nitrided barrel!
This is my stand alone nitrided barrel offering. Available configurations include:
-Only available with a .223 Wylde chamber currently.
-Includes a Headspaced, HPT/MP bolt with extractor upgrades
-Carbine, Mid, Intermeidate, or Rifle length gas systems with a .750 gas block seat that is 2" in length
-Single set screw seat indexed to the gas port
-Barrel lengths in 12.5, 14.5, 16, 17, 18.5, 20, or 24 inch
-18.5" lengths and longer are chambered using the two line method and timed up
-Available in a 1/7 or 1/8 twist rate (traditional rifling)
-My base profile is a modified medium contour.
-Comes standard with a 11 degree crown
-Threaded 1/2-28 at the muzzle
Mine features a Viltor MUR 1-A upper, BCM lower, and Giselle SSA-E trigger. My LaRue mount, Leuplod Mark/AR scope (I wouldn't have minded better glass, but given my limited line of sight, the Mark AR is an inexpensive choice to accomplish the task, in this case). PWS FSC556 f/h, Troy BUIS, and bipod finish it off. I'm going with a basic 2 pt. web sling to tote it with, which has since been installed. Here's some closeups.

You have a select-fire trigger in that gun?
I know - seems odd doesn't it? I ordered the SSA-E for it but they sent an SSF instead. Contacted the seller and they blew it off as no biggie keep it. Am ordering "another" SSA-E soon and will drop that in this rifle and move the SSF to my other "training class" build.
Finally decided to go for a rifle similar to a Mk12 after falling in love with them this deployment. This is my "not-quite-home-yet, but-I-want-a-new-rifle" rifle. Shitty pic, but it'll have to do until I can snap some of my own.
Build was done by Werner Arms.
