I have decided to send in my for for my sbr following the steps in the other sticky thread. My question is this; I want to get a can after my sbr papers come back but how do I match up and make sure it will fit my upper. Also is there a recommended length for an sbr with a can. I am leaning to the gemtech halo so I can slap it on other rifles if I want. Any direction you guys can offer with this will be my first sbr and first supressor. Thanks in advance

Here are a couple of things to consider.

1. Most silencer manufactures will not warranty their products on barrels shorter than 10.5".

2. The shorter the barrel the more wear you get on the blast baffle of the silencer. In order to lessen that wear on the blast baffle a number of folks are starting to use muzzle brakes instead of just the traditional flash hiders.

There are a number of good silencer manufactures today. You may want to see if you can find some folks in your area that have several different brands/models so you can feel them/hear them before you drop your hard earned dough on something.

Well to say the least all the gun owners I talk to just look at me like im crazy when I say I want to get a can lol. So not sure how to find people who would have them. Do you think it would be better to run one on an 11 inch upper? I was actually looking at the lmt 10.5. Right now I am basically trying to avoid buying a short upper ill be unhappy with later.

What state do you live in..that may help locating some folks near you with silencers.

LMT makes some great stuff. I would get the length you think you would be most happy with and work on the can from there. Below is a pic of my LMT MRP 10.5" barrel with an Ops M4-S can.

One other thing I forgot to mention and it is very important is the barrel threads being concentric to the bore. If they aren't your chances of a baffle strike increase and that isn't cool. Some folks have reported issues with some manufactures barrels including LMT. Noveske, Daniel Defense, White Oak Armament and ADCO Firearms consistently get great feedback with barrel threads being concentric to the bore. You may want to do a little research on that.

Awesome rifle. Thanks for the feed back. I was looking at noveske too. How does the can on your lmt mount? Is it just a normal screw on? Oh and I live in cleveland.

I'm going to assume Cleveland, OH...we have a Cleveland here in TN. ADCO Firearms is in Sylvania which looks like it is a couple hours west of you. I know they sell Ops, Gemtech, Surefire and Yankee Hill rifle cans but they have sold other brands as well. I would bet they have a good number of local customers with different brands and I would assume some of those folks shoot together...it couldn't hurt to give ADCO a call to see if that is the case so you could hook up with them. I have bought nearly all my silencers from ADCO...just had them transferred to a local guy here in Nashville.

The Ops cans I have use a two point mounting system. A collar on the barrel plus the muzzle brake which has threads. The can slides back over the barrel, screws on, and butts up against the collar so it is firmly on. Here is a couple of pics from various rifles. I have different collars for different setups but the all use the muzzle brake at the end.

LMT 10.5" MRP barrel with Ops adapter and muzzle brake (adapter screws onto the end of the barrel and brake screws onto the end of the adapter).

The LMT 10.5" MRP barrel inside the chassis. When the Ops silencer is mounted there ends up being a slight gap between the end of the rail and where the can butts up against the collar lip but you cannot see that in any pics...it just looks like the cans butts up against the end of the rail.

LMT 16" MRP barrel. You can see the back of the collar on the barrel and how the can butts up against it.

Picture of the two point Ops setup on my RRA M4. Just need to remove the thread protector on the brake and install the can.

Last, the Noveske 12.5" crusader (switchblock version)...awesome...awesome rifle. I still need to order the AAC M4-2000 can for this.

Best of luck with your research/purchases. Hopefully all this helps some. Hopefully others can post some tips or ideas.
