[inspired by John_Wayne777's cool M1 Carbine thread in this forum]

Well, CMP came through for me. God Bless 'em.

I ordered an M1 around late March (?) and on 22 May received an "We regret that we will not be able to fill the order that you submitted" e-mail. I kept the order active, and this week was blessed to receive a rack grade Greek. [:)]

This is my first M1. I'm a total M1 neophyte (newbie), so any comments, observations, info, opinions, pointers, and so on (on the rifle or on resources for learning) are welcomed!

On to the pictures...

A little Google with the SN tells me the born-on date is November 1943:

These pics are "fresh out of the box." I haven't had it out of the stock yet.

I know I have lots to learn these fine old rifles.

Very nice!

The finish on the outside of the barrel looks new, not like a refinish, what's the inside look like?

Nice score!

Thanks guys.

Just looking down the bore (with some light), it looks pretty good, as far as I can tell.

I've yet to drop the round into the muzzle for the quickie bore wear test. (The only .30-06 ammo I have right now is soft point stuff for my deer gun.)

A friend recommended taking it to the next gun show and letting the Gus' Garands guy evaluate it.

Gus is the man, no doubt.

Good score.

Everyone needs a Garand.

The CMP's manual is a good one and it has everything you need to know to operate and maintain your rifle.

Did you join the Garand Collector's association? If not, you might want to check that out.

If have the time, try to shoot a CMP match or two with the Garand.
