View Full Version : Thoughts On The DD RIS II?
Due to crafty manipulation of the discount offer I received from Midwayusa.com I was able to purchase a n.i.b. DD RIS II Rifle Length Rail in FDE for about $300 after shipping.

Was it worth it?
I didn't even find mine that cheap - but it's a great rail, really light for what it is.
Would you mind sharing the coupon code :p

That's a good price. I bought mine for about $65 more than that about a year ago.
Great rail.
Very good quality part and very light. Good buy!

Buy it on a Bravo rifle and it comes reasonable as an add-on.
I have a 12" Lite rail which uses the same attatchment method as the RIS II.
I've owned the DD and a Troy rail, and I love the way the DD attatches. Very solid. I was equally impressed by their barrel nut. No indexing, just torque it on and go.
My favorite rail to date.
dont have experience with the RIS II but DD makes awesome stuff
I have a 9" Lite Rail on my SBR and i love it.
The Lite and RIS II rails are the same in many ways.
I prefer DD rails over every other rail system, with Larue coming in at a close second.
I was thinking of picking up a RIS II myself but since its so close to what i already have i put it off.
Right now im considering a 11" Larue SBRS Gooseneck.
But i highly recommend the DD RIS II over most other rails.
I paid full price for my MK18 version and thought it was very much worth it.
And I was also swapping from a LaRue 10.0 too.

Do you mind me asking what you like better about the DD? I have 3 Larues and like them ALOT. Low profile plus they have the intergrated sling attachment, which is a big negative in DD's book if you ask me. I am thinking about buying a DD but only their FDE version as I am digging the look right now. If Larue made an FDE rail I would buy that instead. So I am willining to give DD a shot to see if I like it.

Few reasons:
I have a LMT 10.5" upper and had read around that using a 10" rail like the LaRue 10.0 would not give enough room to mount a suppressor, which I plan on doing sometime in the future. The MK18 RIS II is about 9.5" which gives just enough barrel length behind the mount to allow a suppressor to be attached properly.
At the time I didn't care about weight, but I do now. The LaRue 10.0 I had weighs more than the MK18 RIS II, albeit only a few ounces at most.
Last reason was just a personal one. The RIS II had a higher cool factor to me than the LaRue (I know, I know, barbie for men; tool, not a toy; etc, etc.). My plans for the SBR was to be a MK18 lookalike, and figured the RIS II would be a better fit for it than the LaRue.
Don't get me wrong though, the LaRue rail was top notch. At the time I got it, it was also a little cheaper than the DD equivalent. It just boiled down to my personal preference on how I wanted to set up my SBR
Yea i also have a 10.5" LMT upper mated with a Stag-15 lower and one reason i went for the DD Lite rail was because i wanted enough room to equip a Suppressor down the road, which i def plan to do.
Since the Lite and RIS II are almost identical i can say that u def wont be displeased with the RIS II.
And trust me i am a HUGE Larue fan and have been for years, but DD rails are pretty much the best rails out there IMO.
I will continue to always recommend DD rails first until i find another rail that takes the cake.
One thing that has really always steered me to the RIS II is it coming in FDE, which i think just looks so b*d*ss with a black upper and lower.
rush if u dont mind me asking, what Larue rails do u currently own???
I currently have 12", 11", and 7" larue rails. 12" on a recce build, 11" on my SBR, and 7" on m4gery. I am digging the FDE look and that is the only thing drawing me to the DD. The only thing that the DD is missing is a QD socket for a sling on the rail.
Very nice, got any pics of ur Recce???
And yea i do agree, i wish the DD rails did come with a sling attachment point.
But u can just buy a QD RSA from DD as well, if thats the only thing holding u back from buying the rail then id just purchase one when u purchase the rail.
But trust me ive been kicking around what i want my next rail to be for over a month. Even though id like to do a 12.5" setup with a 11" Larue rail, i keep coming back to the RIS II because it just looks so sexy in FDE.

Very very nice Recce.
Only thing id prolly swap is a UBR instead of the MOD.
What lower do u use with the 14.5"???
It's another LMT, identical to the one with the 12.5 SBR on it.

Tax time is SBR time for me.
It will be my 1st stamp.
BCM lower, (hopefully one of the factory SBR ones.), and a Noveske 10.5 N4 w/ this rail is my plan.
Of course tax time is a long way away.

Gives you about 6 months to plan it all out. :D
Is that FSB model new? Special run?
thanks
This rail is bad ass! I want one for another SOCOM barrel upper now to match my M4A1 RIS II FSP!

Is the M4A1 RIS II the official Block 2 rail or is the FSP version correct? Im sourcing parts for a MK18 upper and a M4A1 build (just got a barrel) and need to know which handguard to go with. Hot damn with the FSP version of the MK18 rail, that is sexy...

The RIS II rails are very nice.
I have a 12" RIS II on my 20" AR and a RIS II Mk18 on my 10.5" SBR both in FDE.
Of all the DD rails I like the look of the Ris ll best with its bottom rail tucked up closer to the barrel. With the current popularity of middy uppers I would like to see DD do a Ris ll FSP and FSPM for them. To bad they couldn't also be the width of the Omega series rails.

Just emailed Joe @ DD about this upper.
Damned sexy!
All i have to say is......WOW!!
I was truly considering going with a 12.5 setup with a Larue 11" as my next setup.
I was putting it off because i kept going back to the RIS II because i love it in FDE, but since im already running a 9" Lite i was looking at the Larue.
Now seeing that they have come out with a RIS II FSB im back to square one lol.
This is gonna be a real hard choice, that RIS II is so damn sexy!

Looks like its time to start getting into the SBR game.:D

Wait do the RIS II's have detachable bottom rail? I was thought that was only the Omega and Omega X rails. Honestly that's one reason I'm really fond of the Omega X rails--detachable lower rail (cleaning, etc.); built in QD socket and also mounts up the same as the Lite model rails

Yes the RIS II does have a detachable bottom rail.
My mistake, thanks for the clarification

DD RIS II
RIS II what? The RIS II is an entire series.... when you comment about it you might want to say which one you are talking about.
The longer rail makes it look like the M4A1, but it could be a different one.

Yes, it is the Daniel Defense RIS II M4A1. My mistake, I specified which one in my original post but for those who haven't read it, it would make sense to specify again.
