VTAC sling adjustment question

I just got a VTAC sling and I'm really diggin it although I do have one question: My adjustable strap is very long and was wondering if any of you have cut the webbing that attach near the swivels (not the quick adjust part)? I don't want to screw it up! It appears that I need to cut off about 12-16 in. Does that sound about right? I understand it depends on what I'm wearing as well as the size of my torso. Other than clothing I'm wearing or shooting position, is there anything I need to consider before cutting it? I'm trying to figure out what shooting position requires the most slack.

One end is attached to the rear of the of a CTR stock with quick release swivel and the other end is attached with a quick release swivel at the rear of the rail (DD Omega).

Elevating the weapon into a high port position for a reload, or when you want to run somewhere, is probably one of the positions where you would need the most slack in the sling.
