Advice about staying in Battle Crrek, Michigan

I'm headed to the 10-8 2 day carbine class near Bellevue, MI, and the closest town with motels is Battle Creek.

I currently have reservations at the Econo Lodge in downtown BC. Never having been there, it is an OK area crime-wise, or should I find some place else like all the motels along I-94 south of downtown?

You should be ok there, Battle Creek isn't anything like Detroit. If you have time and don't mind the longer drive you might consider going further west towards Kalamazoo. It's been a while since I've lived there, but I grew up 25 miles west of Kalamazoo.

Yep, Lansing and Kalamazoo are both farther away.

You won't be the only ones staying there, so you will be in good company. My father and I have reservations there also for that weekend. Looks to be about a 20 minute drive to the range or so....I have not been there so please correct me if I am wrong. :-)
