My wife love's my G30, but it's too big for her to ccw. She prints or has to ware a large jacket . I was wondering what your wives/girlfriends ccw and how. I'm a die hard .45 fan, so in tern so is she :big_boss:, even so I was looking at the Kahr pm9 and it did look nice and small. A 9mm is the smallest I would want her to carry. All pic are welcome. Thanks in advance.

My wife carries a Smith 6904, FS XD40, P229 40, P239 40 or Kahr MK9.

The P239 is carried 90% of the time.

My wife carries an H&K USP40c. She carries it IWB and in her purse. Trying to end the purse carry option.

Lately she's been pining for a compact .45 "Officers Model".

If she likes your Glock, try her out on a 26.

If the G26 proves to be too large to hide, take a look at a Kel-Tec P-32. Yes, I know it is below the power floor you would like, but it is far, far better than nothing. At least from the reading I have done and my own limited experience with a smaller 9mm, the G26 seems to be about as small as one can go in 9mm and still have a 100% reliable gun. If something smaller is needed, then a smaller caliber should be considered. The P-32 is (if my caveats below are followed) very reliable and easy to shoot well.

Caveats:

1) Replace the 9 lb. recoil springs with 11 lb. springs.

2) Be careful loading the magazines to avoid rimlock.

I'm more of the philosophy that a .380 in your pocket is better than a .45 in your car. A G30, along with most .45s are bulky with heavy slides. The ammunition also weighs double that of 9mm. The more inconvienient the gun is to carry, the less likely you'll carry it under the widest variety of circumstances.

Having had to pull my weapon multiple times off duty on people that I have had past dealings with, I generally prefer to carry a compact P228 9mm or P229 .40 for hip carry. During those times when a hip carry gun is not practical, or the size of a duty gun isn't discrete, I will carry the P232 on the hip or in an ankle holster. The weight of the P232 is also substancially lighter than 9mms, and so is the ammunition. I work for DOI, and we've had several shootings with our P232s with 102gr GS and they have performed fine for soft target shooting. So, I have confidence in this particular .380 combo given its specific role as a BUG, and not a barrier penetrator.

My wife also works for DOI, and she shares the same carry principle and philosophy. It allows her to still dress for the occasion, and not have to constantly tailor her outfit to the restrictions of a large carry piece. It's kinda funny to think that her sporting her sexy outfits and she's still armed.

In reference to the Kahr 9mm, it is a good gun. So is the Sig P239, H&K P2000 SK, or Glock 26.

My Mrs. currently purse carries a J-frame. She's considering switching to a J-frame or an M&P 9 Compact in an AIWB holster.

Having watched my own wife struggle with finding good carry methods, as well as watching ladies on the range struggle with high-rise holsters worn behind the hip, I have spent a lot of time reading the Women & Guns forum for ideas. Carry methods that seem to be popular there:

LadyFist hip holsters.

http://www.fist-inc.com/holsters/lady/Default.htm

A belly band, sometimes worn with the grip of the gun positioned just below or within the bosom.

Thigh holsters.

IWB in various locations, including appendix and behind the hip, depending on the build of the lady.

Ankle holsters.

Purse carry, although the disadvantages of this method are well recognized and often discussed over there.

Some interesting examples can be found here:

http://www.guns4gals.com/Holsters.html

These were mentioned repeatedly but I don't recall many (if any) comments from actual experience:

Unfortunately my wife has not yet settled on the best methods for her, so we are still experimenting.

Oh ok. I gotcha now. I was thinking more along the lines of on person concealment but that makes sense.

You know, my wife has talked about carrying her side folder in her vehicle. Along with a bug out bag.

I need to explore options on how to conceal and secure them.

Hers is on the left. My 4" is on the right.

just curious on why she carries a subcompact with the extended mag anyways? she is giving up a longer sight radius for what benefits?

Danged near the same thing I carry. I carry a Ruger LCR, she carries a 5 shooter S&W with a steel frame, five or six ounces heavier. She can handle mine if she needs to.

I'm more of the philosophy that a .380 in your pocket is better than a .45 in your car.

Anything in your pocket is better than nothing in your pocket. A heavy gun becomes a burden pretty quick. If you live like I do, the threats are few and far between. It is easy to get lazy though I have learned not to.

For those of you who have wives/girlfriends that carry IWB/OWB, what belts do they use? My wife is going to start carrying OWB, and we need to find a good gun belt for her.
