Gin or Vodka, sweet or dry, up or rocks? New age flavored or old school straight.

I'll start how I take mine.

4 parts Stoli 100proof
1 part Martini&Rossi Dry Vermouth
Shaken, served Up with 3 olives, either stuffed or not depends on mood.

Ok, anyone else a Martini person?

why shaken?

been a loooong time...

3 parts Tanqueray- **** vodka
1 part Extra Dry
2 olives - stuffed, no stake

mixed in dry shaker, poured into frosty iced shaker- NOT bucket ice- two or three violent shakes, strained as fast as possible.

it's because of how snobby you have to be about martinis that i don't drink them anymore.

You don't have to be snobbish to have a good old fashioned drink. I just can't stand these new fad drinks. I stick with the old standards. That is a nice gin martini by the way. I only do vodka cuz the wife won't drink my Bombay Sapphire, she doesn't like the taste of gin.

C'mon whats wrong with juniper berries?

I'm not a martini guy per say but if it has gin in it I'll drink it!

Ken Hackathorn, that epitome of sin, got me hooked on dirty martinis years ago.

Since then, I've played around with a few twists and turns, and came up with my own take on it:

2 shots Plymouth gin
1 shot Lillet Blanc
3 dashes Angustura Bitters
1 squirt lime juice
two olives
olive brine

I call it a "Dirty Headshot." I frequently mix it in the glass, for some reason it's good at room temperature, but I occasionally mix it over ice and strain it.

Dry Vermouth splash in glass, spin it around to coat glass and dump it out

Lemon twist run over edge of glass and toss it

2 parts Citadel Gin
cracked ice
shaken

tiny splash out of olive bottle and 3 olives stuffed with garlic

pour in Gin and drink:D

I love those garlic-stuffed olives. They make great martinis.

Gray Goose in the freezer, dry vermouth in the fridge. Metal shaker half filled with ice. Throw a half a shot of dry Vermouth on the ice, shake twice, drain off liquid and discard. Add cold Gray Goose for volume needed. Shake vigorously. Poor into Martini classes with two olives on stick.

Just took the wife out for dinner for her b-day. Took the bartender three rounds to get it right ;)

"Does it look like I care if it is shaken or stirred?"

I feel you CDH, it sucks when you don't have a true mixologist at the helm but a mere hack. Did an ice bar at a wedding few weeks back, Vodka shots and beluga and roe pretty good along with 6-9 count shrimp.

PM to me, sounds interesting.

Can't post in GD - Chocolate Martini
Chocolate martini:

Equal parts:

Smirnoff Vanilla Vodka
Chocolate liquer
Kahlua
Whole milk

then add a shot of Everclear
finally line the inner rim with Hershey's syrup.

A couple of these and anyone wearing pants at the beginning will be lacking them upon completion.

Everclear, there's a funny story in bottom of every bottle.

Never did like diary products and alcohol. Egg nog is soooo good by itself.

You guys ever try Vespers, using Lillet? My wife really likes them.

Yep, I've made Vespers. I liked them, but I modified the recipe into my 'Dirty Headshot' and find I like those better.

This frikken thread is proof about why Martini drinkers are snobby...;)

A little Michael Cain, a few desperate British soldiers, ten thousand Rampaging Zulus and a large dash of Martini-Henry's in 577-450- all on the African rocks...

That's the best Martini recipe!

Vodka Martini's for me.

Up, Shaken, Dry (not very dry) with olives. Bleu Cheese stuffed olives are OK, but I'd prefer gorgonzola. Tried a dirty Martini but it was too olive-y.

At home I'm using Tito's Handmade Vodka - good stuff, better than the fancy bottle imports but more cost effective. Made in Texas. Add a little Dry Vermouth and an olive. For speed I just mix it on the rocks, but I asked the wife for a shaker set for Christmas to do it right.

Other than that, I'm really liking Irish Whisky on the rocks w/Jameson. I like Red Breast single malt 12 year old neat even better. And my local store has Middleton, and I'm going to get a bottle for New Years.

I like a Vodka Martini dirty w 3 olives. No particular vodka required, though I'll choose Absolute as a default if I'm out at a Bar. Tito's is really good. Polish potato vodka is really nice also. Svedka vodka is good on the cheap side. Garlic stuffed Olives are tasty along with the different cheese stuffed olives.

i'm not generally one to call bullshit on people for talking about "good" spirits.. i'm a bit of a bourbon buff, meself.. and if you put three blind bourbons in front of me, i can probably tell you what brand, and describe the subtleties of each.

but vodka? VODKA? utterly flavorless diluted rubbing alcohol. I CALL BULLSHIT ON VODKA DRINKERS!

... seriously, though.

Gin is a different story as most are very different tasting.

agreed. that's why i have a preference for martinis... tanqueray is the first gin i really drank, and i prefer it to most others. i can definitely tell you the difference between tanqueray, and say bombay.. and i can certainly tell the difference between UK and American gins.

speaking of the American gins- where the hell did all these new "craft batch makers" come from? is it just me, or is the market for specialty _______ huge right now? you'd think with everyone being broke, people would be less into more expensive shit- yet everywhere you turn, there's a new list of specialists in any market...

You really need to try Citadel Gin it is one of the oldest gins made and unfortunately it is French:eek:, but the French do seem to make some pretty good beverages:p Tanq was my favorite till I tried Citadel.

Agreed on vodka. It's just nasty in general.

As for gins, I prefer Plymouth. I haven't tried Citadel though, so I'll have to pick up a bottle for my next Dirty Headshot.

I think that is because you and I are in the same boat man, we both drink bourbon and whisky, and that white stuff is lame... :)

But I am utterly surprised at the insistence Vodka drinkers have on their brands of vodka. I know that a lot of it is trends (Vodka is the most overly marketed alcohol on the market), but there is a taste difference too. It's subtle.

Maybe the reason we can't tell, is that we've burned out those taste buds with all the bourbon... :)
