Has anyone used one of Vltor's free float handgaurds? How do you like it?

Daniel Defense Omega would be a better bet, lighter, more compact and just as free-floating.

I have the CASV-M and love it. Granted it's kinda heavy with all the rails attached but, as I said, I love it. Once I finish figuring out how I want everything set up, I'll remove the rails I don't need.

Solid rail, but heavy. Look at the troy trx extreme. Free float, no rails where you don't want em, light weight, and better options for buis and optic cowit.

Had one for a year or so. I wrote a short review in this thread. Second from the top.

I would personally stick with DD or a Larue. The DD is lighter and I don't really like how the cas-v raises the rail height.

Didn't like it one bit. Was on my first AR and I felt it was a bad decision. It was ugly, a little heavy and I hated the added rail height.

If you made that a 10.5 with a kx3, I may be intrigued.

I'm +1 for the DD Omega. Solid. :big_boss:

Fantastic rail, but unappreciated. The riser that continues along the top of the receiver gives increased rigidity, and while you may not have a need for it, its a nice bonus. The comment often comes up that the increase in height is a problem, but with the various mounts on the market, its really only an issue if you use an Eotech.

GotM4 suggested the CASV on my first build, and I have to concur completely. With a short LaRue M68 mount, my StrikeFire gives a lower-1/3 co-witness that works perfectly. I can't do absolute co-witness, too much information for my tiny little mind. The red dot works great for most targets, and the LaRue rear and standard front sights work great for more precise shots, but I like some separation.

And the CASV gives me options as to where to have rail sections, and how long they are. Bottom line: it's personal choice.

As always, just my 2¢, your mileage may vary...

Heh, I've had one of these on my carbines for the last 3 yrs and I love the heck out of it. It's not too heavy and feels solid as rock. I'm not a big guy by any means but I've had no problems going through carbine classes with it. YMMV of course.

As Stickman mentioned the extra rigidity is a real plus. Mine has been stepped on, dropped, thrown, and generally beaten up and it's still fine.

As far as rail height is concerned I've had no issues with co-witnessing with my Aimpoint CompM3 or M4.

I run the CASV-M on my Recce and absolutely love it. Nice not having rails anywhere but where I want to put them.
