View Full Version : Rem 700 ar mag conversion
Saw this on another thread,
Detachable ar mag on Remington 700

Pretty neat. It's a good idea, and could save a lot of money given the cost of the magazines a lot of the DBM upgrades for Remingtons take. Would be even better if they made one for 700's in larger calibers! My .308 would look awful sharp with a 20rd magazine in it. :D

Damn! I thought my CZ 550 American Safari Magnum had a big magazine! 5 shots of 458 in the magazine and one in the spout. That's nothing compared to a 20 shooter Model 700! Seriously, a 20 round Model 700 is ridiculous.
Here's a conversion for 700 .308 box magazine. I will be doing this someday...

Fantastic idea for an NRA match rifle bolt gun in 6.5 Grendel.
Do a search on these over on snipershide.com. The AR mag conversions are definitely not 'drop-in' type deals. Make sure you know exactly what's involved. The high location of the mag release requires modifications to your stock (drilling/milling a hole in the side) and it appears you then need to mill out the feed rails to clear the mags. Not sure that part is reversable.
Also, because of the standard OAL of the AR type mags, you're probably limited to 69gr. bullets.

^ Even without that above, I would never pay that much for a mag conversion. $300? Where do you guys work? I want a job there.
I only load one at a time in my bolt gun anyways and I always let the barrel cool a few minutes in between shots. A mag converion would just be a bragging rights thing. Kinda like this guy I saw at the range with this super expensive M1A in this crazy looking stock with a high dollar scope that was only shooting the 50 yard targets. He sure did look cool though.
